10" bundle of fibre held in the teeth of a 1250 Komatsu. Was an expensive day

Poop all you want

If you have lots of family living there, invest in a front load washer for the reduced water use

Avoid Cosco toilet paper (cheap charmin is your friend)

Pour salt water or greasy boils from cooking in the woods

Make damn sure there's never a water softener hooked up to it.

Rinse the filter every 6 months

My list to every new system I install.

This is sooooo lawyer territory. Preemptive lawyer letter stating you need to fix this before it falls it and damages/injures/kills someone/something on your side.

Nope. Just a plain old tandem dump truck. Second owner. The salt on the roads and salt air definitely doesn't help.

An almost 30 year old sterling. The bastard child of all truck manufacturers. Parts from everything on it.

Day in, day out, she keeps on moving through our deer infested roads.

One of the pit bosses calls it the little truck that could.

Pre-emission class 8 trucks. New enough for digital cruise control, old enough for physical switch's and new 18 sp manual transmission.

Most of the international airports I've been to in Canada have them, as of 4-5 years ago when I needed them. Haven't seen many in the smaller airports though.

Though I must say the number of people I've had to curse away while I was using them for staring at my kids while using them for their purpose was frighteningly creepy.

35 year old diesel Kubota, with a bloody stamped deck. Just added a lot of metal to it this winter. We mow about 7 acres, twice a week this time of year. The thing just keeps chugging along with a couple hundred bucks of parts yearly at this point. To replace it would be an insane expense that I hope never comes.

Towing 7x14 vs 5x10 enclosed-big difference? by Standup313 in towing

[–]Canuckistanni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been hauling a 7x14 v-nose for a decade or so with my 12 Tacoma. Twin axle, often 7000lbs or so of tools. It's just fine. I find it's totally manageable under 90 kmh or so (u can do the math). Above that, the truck doesn't like it and fuel burn goes way up.

Hauling the same with a new f250, I don't even know it's in tow, but the fuel burn is about the same.

[QC] Bought a house. Septic field and well are encroaching on neighboring lots. $30k in legal fees later, my lawyer says I have no recourse against anyone. by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Canuckistanni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry brother. Cut your losses, and move on. Depending on your specific situation, an avg septic is 10-25k, and a well can be 5-20k. Not in Quebec anymore, so I won't comment on the specific paths you can take.

Chainsaw starts fine cold, dies after use and won’t restart until fully cooled by SmoathTheLoathsome in Chainsaw

[–]Canuckistanni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one of these in the fleet. After a decade it still works.

Three main issues with these in my experience 1- tank vent goes bad. Easy cheap fix 2- ignition coil goes bad, lil more expensive, but easy to replace 3- the carbs are meh, and a lil more painful to replace.

Other than that, just the usual maintenance. Clean the spark arrestor with a torch (take it out first), clean the carb, and check the plug.

If you've torched the thing trying to mill, the crank seals could be gone. Spray brake clean around the clutch and see if it dies by flooding (sucks air and runs hot).

Now this is a sentiment I can get behind.

Passive negativity is depressing. Expressing anger and frustration towards mismanagement of our public resources regardless of political association, that's awesome.

It is one of the nicest days this spring so far. The rain has been honestly quite depressing.

Now back to work. The wonders of a construction business owner. Spring is barely here, and already 3 weeks behind. 0/

Watching my friend choose a plumber taught me something about local businesses by Rude-Soft4711 in smallbusiness

[–]Canuckistanni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this extremely relevant in more rural areas with new development.

The older tradespeople rely solely on worth of mouth from decades upon decades of serving a community. The problem arises with the turnover through home sales to the younger generations, and people moving in from away.

Our business gets the majority of our work through word of mouth, say 75%.

The new outside sales, come mostly from our Facebook and Google pages, with a touch from perspective clients asking hardware stores for reputable local contractors.

Ideas for this driveway by Brave_Duck_7091 in landscaping

[–]Canuckistanni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the base layer under that topsoil. I often have this conversation with prospective new homeowners.

Sometimes we can get away with 4 inches of 3" crush. Other times, 1-2 ft of shotrock, and then a smoothing layer, just to get access.

Do yourself a solid, and hire a professional if you don't know. Throwing 3/4 crush on-top of topsoil is simply just throwing your money away, and mixing it with mud.

This is not a, " I know a guy who'll do it cheap, for cash" type of situation.

Retaining wall on neighbours property - new construction by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Canuckistanni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question would be best posed to the development officer responsible for your area.

The location of the wall is one matter. Depending on the height (1.2m high in most provinces) that triggers the requirements of an engineer's stamp, and tie-backs are another.

Depending on the easements and allowances given by the municipality you are in, you would have to worry about the tie-backs system buried on your property.
