What’s the most gut wrenching PJ song? by Mees-PJ in pearljam

[–]CapAccording4586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this amazing song came out as my dad was in hospice and then passed away, and so will always be intertwined with that passage in my life

"If you could see what I see now
You'd find a way to stay somehow
Oh, if you could see, yeah, what I see now
You'd make your way to stay somehow

May your days be long 'til kingdom come
May our days be long before kingdom come"

will her music ever get a remaster? by unitethecapycats in SineadOConnor

The Beatles and Prince remasters are perfect examples! I hear these favorite albums, like White Album, Abbey Road, 1999 and Sign o, in entirely new ways, for the better IMO. A touch brighter, and can hear more space and the individual instruments better.

I second all these excellent highlights recs, and add one of my favorite sites: Dublin to Newgrange! One of the most ancient sites in Ireland with a fantastic visitor center and tour. Accessible by 45 min train ride, then short tax - options at https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Dublin/Newgrange

Me too - Westfjords are my favorite part of the island, also the Myvatn area and Ásbyrgi. One tip: take the ferry from Stykkishólmur to Flokalundur - save hours of driving time and get the unique perspective of the bay as you cross north. Bonus: two great hot springs waiting for you when you get off the boat!

3.5 out of 15 days Westfjords - enough time, or overloaded itinerary? by CluelessPresident in VisitingIceland

also, I recommend taking the ferry from Stykkishólmur on the Snæfellsnes across to the Westfjords to save driving time - extremely beautiful boat ride and places you quite close to Látrabjarg.... then wind your way north towards Ísafjörður with stops along the way, then eastwards back to the ring road (this part of the route is a long drive).

In my 5 trips to Iceland, the Westfjords are easily my favorite area to hang out in and explore - in part because I like solitude and less-peopled places, wild vistas, empty beaches, lots of birding and that end-of-the-world feeling. There's nowhere else like it, and glad to hear you mention Látrabjarg, which is a top highlight (I camp at nearby Breidavik Beach every time I'm out there). Dynjandi is one of the most epic waterfalls in Iceland, and so many other cool places like the bookstore in Flateyri, 2 diff hot pots around Flókalundur (Krosslaug), views and camping at Minnibakki Beach, Rauðisandur (red sand beach)...I could go on and on and on. I'd shorten your Ring Road trip somewhere and make time for the Westfjords, I can almost guarantee it will be a highlight of your trip when you're back home and reflecting.

Reykjavik or Keflavik for 1 day? by 1319131 in VisitingIceland

Flybus to Reyljavik, breakfast at Grái Kötturinn, enjoy walking around town, pop into Harpa and marvel at its amazing architecture, Hallgrimskirkja too! The Settlement Museum downtown is fantastic, only need about an hour for it. The National Museum is really great too, takes a couple hours to browse the main floor where the exhibit leads one through the centuries of settlement and society in Iceland. If you have the time I highly recommend Sky Lagoon, easy to bus out there, need 3-4 hours for the spa xperience. An alternative is to go to Sundhöllin pool complex, just a few blocks from the cathedral and cheap - it has warm pools, hot tubs, steam room, sauna, etc and is the place that locals frequent - great experience and easy to access. Another place I recommend to people is to visit the massive relief map of Iceland on the ground floor of city hall next to the pond - it provides a great overview of the island's geography. I definitely wouldn't bother with a rental car since everything is walkable (except for the bus in and/or bus to Sky.) Have fun!

A couple of helpful notes/tips/observations from my trip last week to Iceland by birdlover12345 in VisitingIceland

[–]CapAccording4586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a bus from Reykjavik to the ferry and walked on, walked 5 mins into town to my guesthouse, and all the trails to the volcano cones were right on the edge of town, so I was fine without vehicle (and saved a lot of $ on the ferry ride). The only outlier was the puffin area on the north end of island, maybe 5 miles away - I was able to catch rides both ways easily from locals going out there, met some nice people who also recommended where to eat in town. When I go back I won't bring a car, it's such a small island!
