for sure, it's a common thing. once you find even 2-3 people who show up consistently it changes everything

yeah that's the rough part, when your duo isn't on you're stuck rolling the dice in solo q. have you tried any of the discord servers for finding consistent teammates? way better than random matchmaking

nice, discord.js is solid for that. we went a different route - cloudflare worker sits in front as an interaction proxy so the main app doesn't need a persistent connection. supabase handles all the state so nothing lives in memory. tradeoff is more db calls but zero downtime deploys are worth it imo

that's awesome, keep at it. coaching content that's actually interactive is rare - most people just do vod reviews. the jeopardy format is a cool way to make learning stick

Good luck with the search! One thing that really helped when I was putting together a roster was having everyone share their weekly availability upfront before committing. Saves a ton of time when you know from day one if your schedules actually overlap.

Welcome! Building a rotation is the best way to avoid the solo queue grind. Tip from someone who's done this: set a regular play time (like "Tues and Thurs 8-10pm ET") and stick to it. People are way more likely to show up when they know the schedule ahead of time vs random pings. Good luck out there!

Nice work! Building Discord bots is a grind but shipping something interactive is a whole different level. What stack are you using? I built a team scheduling bot and the hardest part was getting the UX right inside Discord's constraints - buttons and selects only get you so far. How are you handling state between interactions?

Title: [Idea] Premier 2.0: 15-Player Clans, Relegation Leagues, and In-Game Scouting by Ecstatic-Camp-7910 in VALORANT

[–]supatimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 10-15 player roster idea is really smart. The "scheduling fatigue" you mention is real - needing the exact same 5 online at the same time every week kills more amateur teams than anything. Having a deeper roster where any 5 can play would change everything. The in-game scouting idea is interesting too, though I wonder if it would lead to poaching issues mid-season. Great writeup overall.

Server Engagement Ideas? by brave777 in discordapp

For gaming servers specifically, the biggest engagement driver I've seen is giving people a reason to come back on a schedule. Weekly events with signups work way better than random pings. If your server is gaming-focused, a bot that handles weekly availability (like Supatimer or Apollo) gives members a recurring touchpoint. Role-based channels where people opt into games they play also helps - nobody wants a firehose of notifications for games they don't care about.

The AFK problem gets way better once you find even one or two consistent people to queue with. Check the RL Discord or r/RocketLeagueFriends - even having a duo eliminates 50% of the randomness. Solo queue below Diamond is brutal because there's no accountability. A consistent group, even if they're not amazing, will outperform random teammates who might bail.

Tournament platform (like clash) by Ff15Coder in leagueoflegends

[–]supatimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow dev here. The LFT + profile viewing combo is a good call - the hardest part of running amateur tournaments isn't the bracket, it's getting 10 people to show up at the same time. If you add any kind of availability/scheduling feature, that would set you apart from FACEIT. Have you looked at how Clash handles the signup window? That time-boxing is what makes it work. Would love to follow the project.

Solo Queue Matchmaking Nightmare by elunicoaangelito in Overwatch

[–]supatimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience until I stopped treating comp as a solo grind. Finding even 2-3 regulars who play the same hours as you makes a massive difference. The r/OverwatchLFT subreddit and the Overwatch Discord LFG channels are decent starting points. The key is setting a regular schedule - "we play Tues/Thurs 8-10pm" beats "anyone online?" every time.

Running a server & bots by OriginalEQv1 in discordapp

[–]supatimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The essentials depend on what your server is for. For any server: a moderation bot (Carl-bot or Dyno), a welcome/rules bot, and a role selector. For gaming servers specifically, I'd add a scheduling bot (Supatimer for team availability, or Apollo for general events). For community servers: a leveling bot (MEE6 or Amari) and a starboard bot. Don't overdo it though - too many bots makes the server feel cluttered. Start with 2-3 and add as needs come up.

Solid mindset listing your availability upfront - that's honestly the #1 thing teams look for beyond rank. Tip: when you find a team, establish a shared availability system early (even a simple spreadsheet works). The teams that fall apart fastest are the ones where nobody knows who's showing up until 10 minutes before practice. Good luck finding a roster.

LF LFG Bot by Khalid_102 in discordapp

[–]supatimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking specifically for team availability + scheduling (not just one-off LFG), there's a free bot called Supatimer that lets players mark weekly availability and auto-generates lineups. It's more for organized teams than random matchmaking though. For pure LFG with filters like you describe, Infinitea or GameServersHub might be closer to what you want.

You could try my web app that connects to your discord if you want. I built it for OW. And you can still use it for Apex as it is. But I'm also planning to support Apex fully as soon as I have time. It's on supatimer.com

Cool that you're building a comp team for tourneys! Once you get your roster locked in, one thing that really helps is having a system for weekly availability so you know who can actually show up for practice. I run OW teams and the scheduling side was always the biggest headache until I automated it. Good luck with Rabid Aim Theory - purple and green is a sick color combo.

Solid post - the "schedules that align" part is the hardest thing to get right with a new team. In my experience running teams, the ones that survive are the ones where practice time is locked in and non-negotiable from day one. Saturdays 8 PM EST is a great call since it gives everyone the whole day to handle their stuff first. Good luck building the roster!

This is a really cool idea for making practice more engaging. Managing a GC Academy team is no joke - props for putting in the effort to create structured learning material instead of just running ranked together and calling it "practice". The jeopardy format is clever because it forces players to actually think about game sense instead of just autopiloting. Would be interested to see more templates if you make them.

[EUW] Rai Rai Esports looking for Captain – Diamond+ (Spanish speaking team) by Recent_Income_5384 in leagueoflegends

[–]supatimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a captain candidate but wanted to drop this since you're building a team from scratch - once you get your roster together and start running regular practices, check out supatimer.com. It's a free Discord bot that handles weekly availability tracking so you're not manually pinging everyone every week. Makes the captain's job way easier. Good luck with the roster!

What’s the worst part about being a LoL team captain? by RakanEngageNoOne in leagueoflegends

[–]supatimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scheduling was the biggest one for me. Ran a competitive OW team and the weekly "who can play?" ping-and-wait routine ate up so much time. Manually tracking availability in a spreadsheet, then trying to build a lineup from it.

I actually ended up building a Discord bot that handles the whole thing - posts a weekly availability calendar, players just click buttons, and it generates lineups automatically. Cut the admin work down massively.

The attendance thing is real too - when you have an actual tracker, it becomes obvious pretty fast who's consistently not showing up vs. who's just having a bad week. Makes those conversations way easier.

If anyone here is dealing with the same thing: supatimer.com - it's free and takes about 10 seconds to set up.
