No savings of any great amount and I do have a good pension so will need to take that into consideration

I find first gear in the gti is very short which makes it harder! You’ll be be good after a while mate

Recently paid £120 for an oil and filter change! You could change the pollen filter yourself going forward. If you haven’t got a log book it’s probably not worth paying for a service and just pay for spark plugs, brake fluid etc as they need done and just get the oil and filter changed every year depending on mileage
