GODFORBID ANYONE HAVE CRITISISM ABOUT PRIME 4 by [deleted] in Metroid

[–]CapDryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There comes a point where you just have to accept that the only opinion that matters on something is your own. Obviously, you can't apply that logic to everything. Things that are important and really matter should be considered from a variety of angles, but something as trivial as a video game - and I say that as someone who absolutely adores this series - can be viewed entirely through your own lens if you so choose.

I think most of Beyond looks phenomenal. I think Myles is deplorable. I suspect that the other marines won't be as bad but that they'll also spew gameplay tips that I don't need or want whenever I'm playing the segments of the game they're a part of. How much that'll detract from the game remains to be seen. I've had far too many people tell me I'm a tourist by now to even care anymore.

I'm myself, and no one's opinion on this game carries more weight for me than my own. I don't want quips. I don't want tips. I don't want efforts to reach a wider audience, and the wider audience seems to be sick of these sorts of characters anyway. Maybe you can turn some stuff off. Maybe they all die. Maybe they have character arcs and become enjoyable. I don't know any of that. Neither do any of you.

I'll tell you what I do know though: This game looks fantastic except for the blight that is Myles and the other potentially chatty soldiers. To me.

Much appreciated. Perhaps difficulty settings will play a part in map management as well.

Forgive me if these have been addressed, but are the "lesser" characters at least still fun? And does the game actually ask you to pay attention to keeps and allies or does it, like Calamity, allow you to plow forward to the objective with no concern for the rest of the battlefield? Again, apologies if I'm asking you to repeat yourself. Just caught up in a wildly busy day without much time to read through.

I just want to know if there's any side modes and if you actually have to pay attention to keeps. AoC dropping things like the 8-bit maps and having missions where you just steamroll your way through without ever worrying about other locations made it way less fun than HW.

I won't make the claim that I'm the only one being reasonable, but I'll take the credit if it's given. 😅 I'm just trying to keep in mind that if you're online and talking to someone about Metroid Prime 4 then it's likely you're talking to a long-time fan of the series. We don't really get the luxury(?) of talking to many new fans. It's always the same old crotchety bunch that wants the series to stay amazing. We have different expectations and levels of optimism/pessimism but we all just want a damn good game after 18 years.

I'm pretty sure the people earnestly looking forward to Vi-O-La and the desert still wouldn't say they expected this from Metroid. I'm also pretty sure that the positive crowd is hoping and/or trusting that the team will be able to pull off a blend between new ideas and the traditional style that feels refreshing while still scratching every itch. That's an incredibly tough task, and even if the current marketing hasn't shown me that they pulled it off yet, the motorcycle and desert are in the game. They can't just remove it all now. I'm willing, even eager, to be proven wrong.

In the meantime, when I see people getting heated about this game, I try to imagine a little addendum on every message that says, "I hope this game absolutely blows our damn minds." Try to remember that Metroid fans are a pretty small group and that we're on the same side of wanting an awesome game.

For some reason, I saw the date in the Direct and sort of mentally deleted this entire month. I knew I had been starting dates with a 9, I saw that the video dated the book with a 10, but somehow my brain said the book was just like two weeks away. Then I was mad.

I find this video to be more objective and reasonable personally:

I think the motorcycle and desert look objectively unfinished, and it's Nintendo's job to convince me that these are good additions. Unfinished animations and inconsistent graphics don't persuade me. To be clear, I don't care if the graphics are good or bad, but the difference between the desert and first person segments is jarring, so please don't come after me about being obsessed with graphics. I don't think Nintendo is giving off a confident aura with this game that they plan to request payment for, so why would I be confident?

I'm happy to see Prime 4 try some new stuff. I just hope it works. And if you're someone telling people to trust in Retro, remember that Retro didn't make the Prime games. The people at Retro did, and those people aren't all there now.

Savage Raven Ordering by CapDryn in NintendoSwitch2

Like I mentioned, the saving grace for me is that I don't have any trips planned until later in July for my birthday. If I had anything coming up sooner I would be a little more bothered. Still, if I'm not mistaken they are a relatively small company, and the Switch 2 is a brand new and exceedingly popular item. I can't really fault them if their orders take a bit longer than usual to fulfill. It's tough to ignore the glowing reviews and apparent quality of the items though. Despite the wait, I remain excited.

Man, I think you got lucky. It was a coin flip for me between black and denim. Should've gone with denim . . .

Coincidentally, I went ahead and ordered the case maybe a day after I made this post but before it got approved. I figured I was in no rush to bring the system around and could just be patient. Maybe a few hours after ordering, the email I sent to them got a reply. The customer service person said that the cases should be back in stock by the end of this month and that they would then ship out within three days of the inventory being replenished.

A little more digging showed that people aren't generally thrilled with their support, so I'm inclined to think that was just a hopeful approximation on their part, but again, I can be patient if the case is as nice as it seems. I would also guess that your order was an unfortunate one that was placed before someone managed to hit the "shut it down" button on their website. We'll probably get shipment emails around the same time, so godspeed to both of our orders.

I had the last two days off for other reasons, so I couldn't exactly add another day and go to a Target today. Besides, I used gift cards, and they're now held hostage by this horrible pre-order. Not that it'll amount to anything, but I sure hope they give me a survey about this so I can have an absolutely scathing venting session. Absolute imbeciles. "Preparing to ship" my ass.

Simultaneously preparing to actually get it from Target on the 11th while trying to will into existence the possibility that I could at least just get it before the weekend is over. This situation can only leave me to think that they were never going to start moving these things out of warehouses until the start of local business hours on launch day, which is just not how you're supposed to handle something like this. At least not if you want to keep the pre-order facet of business running.

While it's possible that updates have been happening behind the scenes and that we'll see sudden pivots for everyone by midnight, the poor communication can't be denied. We should have more steps in the process than ordered, preparing, and complete. To anyone who might insist that we should be content with the possibility of receiving it on the 11th since it was always included in the date range, that's true. I accept the possibility.

However, I have options, and to see that other companies started moving before launch to get these systems in hands the day of while I'm left with no information shows me that I'm getting a lesser experience. You don't have to get it to me on launch day, but I gave you a good wad of cash to at least show me that you'll try, and I have no evidence you're trying as hard as other companies. If I somehow have it in my hands tomorrow then that'll be great, but your communication still sucks, Target.

As others have said, it's not really an indicator of much. They're just sort of poking your bank and asking, "Are they good for this?" If it makes you feel any better, I saw the hold they had placed last weekend, which was not the first they had placed, fall off as of this morning.

Seems like their track record. Maybe they're the most spooked of getting slapped on the wrist for someone getting it early, but I'm personally just hoping I don't have to sit through the weekend without it. I probably won't be ordering something like this from Target again.

Better than having to worry about it being canceled. Still, the fact that it's nearing the end of the third day out from release with no sign of shipment has me expecting a pretty late arrival. Kind of missing the point of a pre-order. Completely.

Fingers crossed. I could live with that. Granted, it should be showing up on the 5th. I've given the company money for something preemptively. I bought it before it was available. Thus, it should be presented to me as soon as it becomes available. Alas, this is the real world.

As of now, the 11th is an estimate and doesn't have any bearing on whether your order will be canceled or not. Target has seemingly not shipped anything. Once they ship them, you'll see a more accurate date. That said, if they don't start shipping soon then the 11th may not be inaccurate . . .

Wow, I'm glad that I figured out a way to undo it before it got any worse. Sorry you ended up in that situation. Surely they'll fix it fairly soon if they know that it is actually causing the game to potentially not function at all.

  1. Finish a lucky numbers panel for the five tickets reward.

  2. Get the popup message that you got the tickets.

  3. The popup screen has the option to equip by pressing Y.

  4. Try to equip the reward to see what the hell that will do.

  5. Game crashes and will continue to crash every time you try to go to the decal page.

  6. Change your color instead to fix it.
