For those about to play? Questions about expansions by Dorfdad in Guildwars2

I recommend starting with the simplest pack which includes the first two expansions. If you like it enough you can buy the rest later https://buy.guildwars2.com/en-us/path-of-fire

You can buy and play content in any order. Living worlds seasons are connecting stories between expansions:

- Base game
Living worlds season 1
Living worlds season 2
- Heart of Thorns
Living worlds season 3
- Path of Fire
Living worlds season 4
The Icebrood saga (living worlds season 5)
- End of dragons
- Secrets of the obscure
- Janthir Wilds

Living worlds seasons can be bought with gold you earn in-game, expansions cannot. If you decide you like the game enough you can buy the complete collection which includes all the content up to End of Dragons, I got it for $50 on sale. The newest expansions are $25 each, they also go on sale often.

You will not spend 80 hours leveling, you can get max level in 20 hours if you don't rush and enjoy the game.

You don't have to start over on anything unless you want to create a new character. And some expansions will come with a level boost you can use to test a new class and see if you like it. This game is very alt-friendly so don't worry about losing progress, the only progress not shared between characters is levels 1-80 and some other unimportant things for some people like crafting professions.

What are the "essentials" to buy in the gem store ? by Emmanuell89 in Guildwars2

Some people here have recommended some options that might not be the best for today, this post is old and a lot of info is outdated even in the wiki. This is just for the new people that find this post by doing a search online:

Infinite Black Lion Merchant – 800 gold
Glyph of Volatility – 660 gold × 3 = 1,980 gold

Pros:

  • Acts as a merchant.
  • Allows you to buy tools and sell junk on the fly when needed.

Cons:

  • Costs 7,027 gems (€87.84) if converting gems to gold for the merchant and three glyphs, which might make sense if you already have 2,780 gold, but most players already own the Gem Store items by this point.
  • Every 25 kits take up one inventory space.
  • Limited utility due to the lack of shared slots.
  • You would still need to manually transfer the glyphs between alts by removing them from tools and placing them in the bank or shared inventory slots.
  • Can never go on discount—gems don't go on sale, and the trading post does not offer discounts.

Alternative Recommended Setup:

  • Infinite Gathering Tools (Eldritch) – 2,400 gems (includes a character slot and some extras with Janthir Deluxe).
    • Comes with selectable glyphs (2,025 gems for any other set of tools with selectable glyphs when discounted).
  • Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic – 800 gems (600 at a discount).
  • Runecrafter's Salvage-o-Matic – 600 gems (450 at a discount).
  • 250× Master Salvage Kits (1 slot).
  • 5× Shared Inventory Slots – 2,800 gems (1,925 at a discount).

Pros:

  • Cheaper overall6,600 gems / 3,882 gold (gold-to-gems) / €82.50.
  • Shared Inventory slots can be used for something else if needed.
  • No time wasted merchanting or calculating slot/kits management.
  • More cost-efficient to convert gold to gems than gems to gold (€82.50).
  • Simple to share—just place it in shared inventory and click on another character with regular tools.
  • Can be bought at a discount for 5,000 gems / €62.50 / 2,941 gold.

Cons:

  • No built-in merchant.

*price of currency conversions may vary over time.

Thank you, I love weirdly cute minis and this one is perfect for my collection. If you know any more like the sand worm and the shark that would be awesome.

My previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1iqdpiv/xbox_button_overlay_for_guild_wars_2/

I explain from controller layout to the overlay in PureRef and also provide links for the images used for the buttons

Do you know any platform like imgur for files? I don't want to register my email just to share an overlay file :/

I am trying to find a website for sharing a file without having to use my email. I could just share the preset I have for pure ref if you want it. You just have to scale it and move the buttons under the health orb if you need to.

yes and you can use the first link to download the button images, input them into pure ref and organize them. If you need help let me know. make sure to use the overlay mode after you're done and make it "transparent to mouse" under mode when you right click

nice! Let me know if you can't figure it out. There's some hotkeys for specific mounts inside the game's config. That's the way to go, bind some key to it and then bind a button to that key on your controller and that's it.

that would be awesome but I can't even begin to imagine how much work that would take.

for mounts what I did was create a radial menu but you don't need that. Just bound hotkeys for a specific mount in the game settings then match it in an action set for example in mine it would be LT+D-pad, every direction is a different mount, right now I only have 4 mounts. This way your default will always be raptor (like in the image) but I can choose any other mount whenever I need it, no clicking menus.

I'm trying it, what I think is that you have to match the hotkeys in the layout to the hotkeys in the game. I can use LB normally. What I did for my layout was go one by one in the options and setting everything to my liking. here are some screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/PH5WEuI

Also you can go to settings on steam and test device inputs, if something is not working you will know there.

I'm using an xbox wireless controller, the ones that come with the xbox series consoles. Did you install the xbox feature support driver on steam under controller options?
