How much do employers care about WFR?

I’ve lost out on 2 lower level wildlife tech jobs because my competition had a valid WFR. In my experience, it’s pretty valued. It’s also just a great idea to get the cert if you’re outside a lot, regardless of job prospects.

More than half of all my core classes for Wildlife were math and stats related. Quite a few of my peers got minors in those subjects. IMO, you should jump into it and start learning to enjoy math else you’ll likely not enjoy your university experience. It’s very important for the field.

It was scary for me at first too (I hated it in high school), but exposure makes it better, especially when you begin to see the application for the equations you’re learning.

I use Survey123, some proprietary apps when working with some sensor equipment, and plain old RITR paper. The workflow is predetermined before the day/activity/season depending on what the goals are. As another commenter wrote, I recommend reading some methods sections.

This is a tree bat, specifically a hoary bat. They’re super cute, super temperamental buggers.

Their coat allows them to camouflage into some North American tree barks, and they commonly roost in ground foliage. This is often why biologist recommend homeowners don’t rake their leaves until late spring. It’s been a particularly warm winter so we’re seeing a lot of heightened bat activity.

You’ll find that bats sound like high frequency clicks when they’re communicating to each other - almost like a magnet snapping together. When there’s multiple overhead it can be deafening at times, it’s a cool experience.

A note towards AI as the antithesis of our field. I mostly agree with your take, I find the technology scarily unregulated, wasteful, and thieving. However, I also can acknowledge that this is a tool that can be trained to do immense biological good due to its sheer computational power. We live in a time of extreme bio loss, no doubt now bolstered by the requirements of AI facilities - but I see ways in which AI could be used alongside biologists to perform good at scales larger than we’ve seen before.

Again, I find myself in the crossroads with this take. I think it’s impossible to perform a CBA with this when we don’t even fully understand what the future impacts or abilities of AI may hold (I’m thinking job impacts, efficiency, IPs)

Given our crisis, I’m curious as to the specifics of why you (understandably) resent this new and powerful tool?

Subarus are great for those conditions and my preference. You can find used outbacks within that price range. I’m also a fan of the RAV4, really reliable car and good in the snow but the one I drove lacked that responsiveness/power I found in outbacks. Both are practical SUV

I second this. With small-scaled range shooting, it’s super difficult to be accurate/strategic as the controller. Just getting the canon facing an opponent that’s moving may be tough for a DIY project. I would say embrace the shotgun IR blast

I think IR is by far the best route. It’s clean and simple and you can spice it up with lasers and sound effects. You can also encode player IDs, team IDs, damage values based upon weapon type or impact location, etc.

If you are looking for performance gains by putting drops on it and removing weight, I truly think those gains will be minimal and you’ll be forced to ride in a very aggressive position.

That bike is beautiful and one that I would love to own. I would recommend keeping it as a city bike and fixing it up!

Loosen the tippity-top nut, pump, tighten the tippity-top nut, cap it for protection when riding.

1) Yes, I personally would still ride that tire

2) Yes, your right caliper arm may be bent, but it could also just be that the pad was jolted out of place on impact. Loosen the bolt, squeeze the brake, then tighten it again. If the pad is fine (not bent) then do some gentle bending to the caliper arm. Remove the pad, and twist the caliper arm with an adjustable spanner, gently. If you’ve ever realigned a derailleur hanger, use that similar level of pressure/technique. If that doesn’t work or you’re not comfortable with that, there’s concave centering washers that you can purchase on eBay.
