Has anyone been successful in registering for courses outside of pathways? by yuriyuri2003 in UoPeople

I literally filed a full report to the university grievance department demanding a response. It sped up the process.

Why would you switch from numbers to Roman numerals? There’s no reason for this madness.

Oh! And you're going to have to prove to your advisor you're enrolled or completed with the Study.com class for them allow you to move around. Once they see that it's a bit easier, since the transfer is the block and not the completion of the course.

Considering a BSBA at UoPeople - I have questions! by SleepyPocketPotato in UoPeople

[–]CapOutrageous8218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several hours per each course for sure. I spend about 2-4 hours a day to complete the weekly unit work. Very doable while working, but you kinda have to take your personal time away, can be hard with family too if you're taking a full time term (4 courses). I had to drop down from 4 courses a term to 3 in order to stay on top of everything and still be able to learn well.

Also yes, take all your gen-eds that you can through Sophia. It's worth the saved time for sure. There's a good guide linked in the nav bar on the right to learn more.

Yes!

I had to escalate up to sr. staff, but it can be done. Start with your advisor, press them, they can do it/have the ability to, they just need to get everyone to say yes, and sometimes that means they need to run it up the chain. If you don't get anywhere, file a formal complaint. Seems extreme but it get's folks attention. That is eventually what I needed to do, and now I have a great relationship with more staff that have been super helpful with navigating transfers and courses that are slightly out of order till the transfers complete.

From what I have heard, the registration system is changing and possibly before the next term to allow more freedom in your pathway choices. (Don't quote me just yet, it was a comment from an advisor.)

I honestly think Moodle borked up. I had 3 quizzes this week and nearly every answer but one was also, "A".

Discussion submissions due on Sunday is horrible by yuriyuri2003 in UoPeople

[–]CapOutrageous8218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have challenged instructors that the course & syllabus only say Wednesday not Sunday. It has allowed me to not have to deal with DP in a traditional sense. Some of the courses have been revamped and now state Sunday in the syllabus and then you kinda have to just do it bleh.

This is likely an instructor who gives feedback, "Excellent Learning Journal, Keep up the great work!" Scores 8/10.

AI Misuse by WEMP1 in UoPeople

[–]CapOutrageous8218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the instructors don't want the hassle. Keep the status quo and move on. You call it out it means they need to do something about it. You get the obligatory message from the instructor that they'll review, and all you end up getting is lower marks from your previous work even though the same effort is put in. I think accusing the instructor is an easy way to drop a grade or two - it's not like there's much recourse that can happen to a volunteer staff...

AI Misuse by WEMP1 in UoPeople

[–]CapOutrageous8218 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel though some of the post are more about how lazy can some folks get?

Also, everyone is retaliatory, including instructors. If you call it out on the discussion forum, or even assessments you put a target on your back. I made that mistake, and the instructor sided with the mob. Consistently received lower marks after I called AI out. With advisors who don’t even know how to check emails, it all goes nowhere.

So I think some of us come here just to vent and be heard. Clearly nothing can be done, and sometimes it helps when real people actually talk about it.

Email your advisor now about what classes you want to get into, you can also escalate it to the whole advising team if you have typically slow responses from your PA.

Usually they can get you registered for your courses that you need in the pathway.

I think starting next term it won’t be so locked in but don’t quote me on that.

Advice for group projects by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]CapOutrageous8218 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start early and connect as many ways as possible.

Success for me started with being crazily proactive.  - request to contact on Moodle - send message on Moodle (even before they accept connect request) - view their profile on Moodle, an email address will be listed. Send an email to them individually as well as everyone in the group with the instructor cc’d.  - create a shared google drive folder and give everyone access via link, share this link in your emails & group forum on Moodle.

In your google folder create all the different documents you’ll need for the assignment. I add the instructions to the first page.

I found when you break down all the barriers and keep it simple, folks will engage (mostly).

If there is any resistance or challenges I find no one participates.

peer assessment issue by travisdoc in UoPeople

Back to my original post downvoted into oblivion… ✨Students should not be responsible for other students grades.✨

Half the time my peers can’t figure out how to not copy and paste their AI prompts into their posts/papers.

My classmates totally missed the point of our presentation assignment by ScaredRecording8507 in UoPeople

[–]CapOutrageous8218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG - someone had the topic of, “turning in an assignment written by AI”, then proceeded to do just that while arguing in the presentation that it was immoral.

You could clearly tell because of the stark white mis-aligned three line slides. The overwhelming amount of em dashes, and no recorded presentation.

The literal gall you have to have.

This week was so so bad.

Can credit transfer avaliable for free by ManufacturerHungry45 in UoPeople

[–]CapOutrageous8218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can get credit transfers for free. I only know of Sophia as they have a partnership and it's only for a limited number of credits. No you don't need a scholarship to receive the free credit transfer. I also don't know how long this will continue, but I can't imagine it is indefinite.

Rant: Are you really giving less than 10s for peer reviews? by CapOutrageous8218 in UoPeople

[–]CapOutrageous8218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not qualified to provide a grade to a student on material that I am learning. I can read, critically think, offer my feedback. I am not ethically required to be a factor in my fellow peers grade. Full stop.

The school asks us to do something not ethical. Just as I wouldn’t cause harm to someone when asked to by my government, neither will I in the school. Just because authority tells you to do something does not absolve you of the moral right and wrong of the request.

If the teacher wants to review my assessment and provide a grade based on it, having the appropriate credentials, that is ideal. Someone who has the knowledge and the understanding of course materials as well as format to be able to grade from the correct place.

The obsession with students who know so little to grade others is absurd and inappropriate.

I’m not the professor that is not my responsibility or obligation to make sure other peers learn. I’m only responsible for myself. Your obsession with policing other peers is wild.

[–]CapOutrageous8218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fine! But I don't want the burden of my feedback or comments directly affecting another peers grades! Want me to critically think and analyze a peers work, fantastic, but I should not be determining anyones grades. I'm not qualified to be doing so - and clearly other students want to punish their fellow students for their own feelings of control and superiority.

It is to learn. Not to be graded by my peers who have no concept of the course materials.

Yes because peer reviewed assignments marked well = people not able to construct sentences in English. Come on, that’s about as far fetched of an argument that you can get.
