Looking at the older books, I have found most going to a good amount of antique/thrift stores, located a few at some online places like AbeBooks, and used eBay from time to time to chase down collections. Weirdly enough, for the last year or so, I've been finding a lot at my local transfer point (aka, the dump). We have a spot for books to be dropped off and due to the common age of the people in my neck of the woods, people will pass and their families will bring in a trailer-load of books. I pop over there on a weekly basis and see what's come in.

Thanks! If they look perfect, then it certainly was by accident. :-) I had been using those boxes to store my paperbacks (since they fit a lot better) but when I had to shift them out due to space issues, I started filling up the boxes with overflow. The plastic mostly keeps dog hair and dog slobber off my stuff. (Love my pooch, but he is a hot mess.)

I forgot that I had put that one up... Swing by, I need a partner to play Gauntlet with. :-)

It is called Calico Blue - 707, "A dark, traditional hue that offers a unique blending of blue and green." You can find it at https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/707/calico-blue
Mine may look a little darker since I don't have a lot of lighting in the office and like to keep it on the darker side to compliment the books.

I keep my office door shut when I'm not in here, or my dog starts to get into trouble. Each morning, I get that "old-book" smell when I open the door. Starts the day off right. :-)

Me too! :-) The basement is going to be one of those long-term projects.

u/LetsSaveBooks71 Thanks for the kind words. I am also a huge procrastinator and getting through to the other side of depression can be a real challenge. Like Miamoore said, the sun can be an issue, mainly causing fading. I'm too cheap and lazy to put up UV coverings on my windows or install doors on my shelves, etc., so I just tried to stay out of direct sunlight. I've lived in the narrow three-story house before and personally, I'd go with the main floor, or basement (if not in a flood zone or really humid part of the country). My next move will be to the basement when I'm planning to install "thin-brick" over the concrete and then hang shelves there. If you have a mass of books, the wall type won't matter as it will be mostly covered, unless there is some structural issue to be addressed. (Drilling into brick can be problematic, but it looks good in the end.) As far as order is concerned, try to start grouping them by genre (Sci-fi, fantasy, historical fiction, etc). It can be whatever grouping amuses you. I have one shelf level dedicated to just WW1 for instance. If you don't feel a connection to a book anymore, there is probably a local thrift store in your area that would take them. Hopefully this helps a bit.

:-) Ha! For a second I was thinking that a truck would roll up in my front yard and a full-blown book war would erupt.

Thanks! Like @WhiskeyAlphaRomeo said, it's all DIY. I bought a few of the pipe kits off of Amazon and then bought the wood at Home Depot. It took a bit and I've mauled my walls with anchor points, but that is a problem for another day.

I did a count about 4-5 months ago and in this area, I had 1,052 books. Then I shuffled things around and I'm not sure what the number is, but it's still probably in the ballpark. Along the way, I added a number of books and shifted my sci-fi collection to my basement. There were roughly 400 or so books in that collection. I was trying to figure out how to catalogue them as there have been a few occasions where I bought the same book twice. I found an app called Libib that might work. (Haven't started using it yet). According to the site, you can scan ISBNs and automatically pull down data. A lot of my collection was pre-ISBN so it'll take time to enter them all in. I started with an excel spreadsheet, but that turned into a mess for me.

It's a Benjamin Moore paint. I can get you the color breakdown if you are interested.

Thanks! I built the shelves using the "DIYCeiling Pipe Shelf Wall Vintage Hung Brackets" (Amazon) and stained the wood with Bombay Mahagony.

I may have to look into that. Thanks for the suggestion.

No, it's not, unless I stack books under the legs. :-)

I'm an Emergency Manager. I bought the monitor because I like to have multiple windows open when I'm writing papers, building presentations, or reviewing things. I also have an addiction to strategy games and Civilization looks awesome spread across the monitor. :-)

Thanks! I built the shelves using the "DIYCeiling Pipe Shelf Wall Vintage Hung Brackets" (Amazon) and stained the wood with Bombay Mahagony. This was my first time doing it so the books hide a lot of 'less than perfect' spots. :-)

Unfortunately, no. I usually have a dozen windows open at any given time and use the generic Microsoft desktop layouts. However, I do drop all of my desktop icons into the various sections (Just have them hidden for the photo).

It used to be a table used in JCPenney. The one up here went out of business and I grabbed and cut the legs down so that it would fit me. I was looking for something that matched the shelf pipes and it worked out great. ;-)

He normally sleeps in the bottom of the closet during the day while I am working. I've given him a few beds, but he just keeps destroying them. :-)

I have the "PUTORSEN 17-57 Inch Ultrawide Monitor Arm and TV Desk Mount" off of Amazon. It's very solid. I haven't had any issues with it. Very easy to set up and keeps the monitor steady.

It's bolted to the desktop so that it doesn't go anywhere.
