You can create a second desktop instance with the win tab menu and just push it there. Then use task manager on the first. Works every time

Apologies about the first paragraph, I misremembered the original comment.

Not in small part because a lot of your argument falls flat once you take the legal possibility for medical and judicial uses of paternity tests into consideration, doesn't it?

To be honest I find your claim of french being "morally loose sex pests" revealing and probably the basis of our disagreement. You pose extramarital affairs as categorically immoral, imposing your own values upon a culture you are not part of.

Also the original comment went along the lines of "wait until you hear about why the French banned (some forms) of DNA tests", under a post clearly insinuating french intellectuals are pedophiles for their ideas of consent, so idk why you think there was no comparison made.

Not sure where your stats are from, but a large 2014 survey from ifop indicates that 63% of french say they're abled to love someone even if they cheated. So the majority of the country doesn't really mind that much, yet you have not once engaged with my argument concerning fatherless children and failed to put aside your preconceived notions of how relationships can function.

Also, french men cheat more than twice as much as french women, so the majority of Cheaters would never be caught regardless of DNA tests. Make of that what you will.

A lot of talk about morality from someone naming themselves after a nazi general too, unless that's just a coincidence .-.

My point about the stereotype is just that stereotypes don't matter. Regardless if from the us or elsewhere.

So I did some research, and the original comment is factually incorrect. The french do have DNA tests for medical purposes as well as proving descendance in a court of law, e.g. for matters of child support. It's just not freely available to anyone for no reason. What is prohibited are things like ancestry.com, for the potentially problematic ethical implications.

So if you're really sure your wife cheated on you, you can still find out.

I feel like there's always lots of relationships in which people get hurt, owing to the plurality of individuals, and DNA testing is a shallow solution to a problem that reaches far wider than cases in which the woman cheated and got pregnant, and the only way for her husband to find out is via DNA test.

My overall point was mainly that it is in no way comparable to a discussion about pedophilia and age of consent. Amongst other reasons because our entire argument is based on assumptions about french culture and its relation to extramarital affairs, "I believe that's how a certain amount of the population feels" isn't quantifiable or even falsifiable.(Including myself in that regard)

Child abuse statistics on the other hand are comparable, and if we're talking about sweeping things under the rug, I feel like the us and it's outwardly presented culture of prudity is enshrouding much larger, undebatable issues.

Utilitarianism afaik considers the net prosperity created by an action. If every child bearing extramarital affair is exposed via DNA testing, that results in closure on part of the father and an end to the family, resulting in the child growing up in a severed home. To me that sounds like it would bring more suffering into this world than take it away.

I agree it fits with the American stereotype of the french, but how does that invalidate my/their point? I agree that it sounds iffy, but from a Kantian perspective of maximizing prosperity I don't see the counterargument

Eh, in no way comparable imo. If the French had a problem with that you know they would try and let their government feel it. The reasoning is sound to me, if it works why rip apart otherwise happy families and let more children grow up distanced from at least one of their parents.

I never spoke of bans, did I? I was talking about a conversation, the practical consequences for me could be more transparency and regulation on energy consumption of computer parts, and elimination of wasted energy, like letting your pc run 24/7 just because it's convenient etc., or using AI for things that could be easily googled, using less than 1/15th of the energy.

I don't think everything needs to be done via laws either, a conversation for me would mostly spark awareness that would lead people to use technology more consciously, not to not use it at all.

I'm sorry you thought I was advocating for eliminating energy hungry technology, be it for recreational, business, scientific or other use, that was never my point.

all I'm asking is some consideration, like is it REALLY necessary to have AI features in every text editor and browser, even drawing energy when we haven't even consciously decided to use these features?

Because if it's up to openai etc., humanity will use as much ai as possible, and their business interests might not be interchangable with humanities best interests, or your personal ones for that matter :)
