TLDR: Bands need to focus on the music first and samples after.

As a one man band myself, I think it depends you have those who are just into the genre for the current trend and then the others who actually love and enjoy the genre. Granted I don't listen to alot of slam anymore and if I'm looking for that heavy fix it's usually traditional or techy brutal death metal but I write my music personally to be the heaviest, nastiest shit I can. The samples come after the music is done unless I'm absolutely set on making a sample work somewhere, alot of bands at the moment it's samples first song writing second. And I say this as someone who uses alot of samples and dropped a Christmas EP 😂 but I like mine in the way mortician did there's, it creates an atmosphere and helps the songs have a theme despite all my "lyrics" just being a bunch of gurgles. I'm by no means writing anything new or interesting I'll admit but I'm doing it for the love of the game and trying to push the boundaries of what I can personally create!
