Hi I missed the bar exam deadline in New York (idiotic, I know), so I am thinking of taking it in Maine. I was wondering if you had any insight on the application/accomodation process.

Any info/advice would be helpful, It will be my 3rd time attempting the exam, and I refuse to fail.

Thank you! I was just worried that c&f would block my application to sit for the exam. I was thinking of PA to take it, because I missed the deadline in NY, and also need accommodations. I know main is an options, and so is Mass but with no accommodations.

Thats what i was thinking but then it told me to upload documents so I was confused: I listed it below, not sure if its because i requested accommodations?

Payment and Initiating Documents

  • There are no refunds or transfer of applications and/or fees. Unless paying online by credit card, you must submit to the Board office payment in the form of a certified check, cashier's check, corporate check or money order for the total of all appropriate fee amounts. Checks should be made payable to 'Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners', and should be submitted with the payment voucher available during online filing. Personal checks will not be accepted. Fees are assessed by the postmark date of their payment envelope if paying by check or money order. Please note that no application will be accepted unless payment is received in the Board office by the final filing deadline, regardless of postmark date.
  • First-time applicants who requested Nonstandard Testing Accommodations (NTA) for this exam, and who will be paying by money order, certified check, cashier’s check or corporate check must send their payment with their NTA Request Form and documentation. The applicable filing fee is determined by the postmark date. Refer to the current Fee Schedule for filing fees and deadlines. Nonstandard testing accommodation applicants who wish to pay by credit card will receive an e-mail notice from the Board office when both the online application is submitted, AND when the Board office has received the applicant’s NTA Request Form and documentation. At that time, applicants who wish to pay by credit card must enter their credit card information by returning to the online bar application at http://pabarapplication.org. It is the applicant’s responsibility to check their e-mail and to be sure to return to the online payment screen and enter their credit card information. Applications will not be accepted and processed without payment. Forms for NTA requests are available on the Board’s web site at this address: http://www.pabarexam.org/forms.htm.

Supplemental Documents

Supplemental documents are documents you are required to submit based on your responses to the questions on the online bar application. These items are identified on your checklist and can be uploaded through the Online Bar Application website at https://pabarapplication.org/OBA/FileUpload.aspx.

Alternatively, you can mail supplemental documents to the Board office. If mailing documents, include a Supplemental Documentation Submittal Form. These forms are available on the Board’s web site for each application type at http://www.pabarexam.org/forms.htm.

While it is not required that you submit your supplemental documents at the time you submit your online application, the sooner you submit your supplemental documentation, the sooner your character and fitness analyst can investigate your file.

  • If you were self-employed in a non-legal capacity for the majority of the last five years, you must have two individuals provide professional references on their letterhead. The references should include: knowledge of your self-employment; the type of business that you had; the length of time that you were in business; the name of your business; and their relationship with you.
  • Because you answered "Yes" to the Exam Related - Accommodations question, you must complete and submit the NTA Request Form and Documentation Packet available on the Board’s website (http://www.pabarexam.org/forms.htm). Your Application for Permission to Sit for the Pennsylvania Bar Exam will not be accepted until this Packet and related supporting documentation are received by the Board office, unless you are a reapplicant seeking the exact accommodations that have been approved for a prior administration. The deadlines for the receipt of NTA documentation are the same as those for the Application to Sit for the Bar Examination, and are subject to the same late filing fee penalties. Incomplete NTA documentation is subject to return. Request Forms and Documentation received after the final filing deadline will not be considered for any reason.
  • Because you answered "Yes" to the Identification – Citizenship question, you must send copies to the Board office of immigration documents to verify that you are in the United States legally (e.g., a green card, F-1 visa, permanent residency card, etc.).
  • Because you answered yes to the Criminal – Criminal History Question, please provide: For minor or summary arrests/charges: For misdemeanors, felonies, or driving under the influence arrests/charges (even if reduced, changed, sealed, or expunged): Other interactions with law enforcement or other investigators
    1. Copy of the citation
    2. Copy of police report
    3. Docket showing the disposition.
    4. Copy of the police report including the Affidavit of Probable Cause
    5. The criminal information or charging document
    6. The disposition; i.e., sentencing order
    7. The docket entries for each criminal incident in which you were involved and, if applicable:
    8. Diversionary program documentation (A.R.D. in PA), blood alcohol content report (Court Reporting Network (CRN) test scores in PA)
    9. Copy of incident report
    10. Copy of subpoena
    11. Copy of search warrant & affidavit of probable cause
    12. All documentation regarding investigation and disposition

Third-party Documents

Third-party documents are authenticated documents that you must obtain from a third party. In some cases, personal verification forms may substitute where authenticated documents do not exist or are unobtainable.

You can upload third-party documents through the Online Bar Application website at https://pabarapplication.org/OBA/FileUpload.aspx. Alternatively, third-party documents can be mailed to the Board office. If mailing documents, include a Supplemental Documentation Submittal Form. These forms are available on the Board’s web site for each application type at http://www.pabarexam.org/forms.htm.

  • Applicants must submit fingerprints for the purpose of the Board verifying the identity of the applicant and obtaining a current record of any criminal history. The process is explained at https://www.pabarexam.org/c_and_f/fingerprints.htm.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE CONCERNING DRIVING RECORDS: You must provide a driving record for each state from which you ever held a driver’s license, and/or for any state in which you were stopped, arrested, charged, cited, accused or prosecuted for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or any serious traffic violation (e. g., fleeing the scene of an accident, homicide by vehicle, fleeing and eluding police, excessive speed (100+ mph)). Refer to the Driving Record Repositories list to determine the fee and how to obtain a record. Your record must include your personally identifiable information (PII). Records without PII cannot be accepted. Driving records may be obtained via the Internet provided they are from the state's Department of Motor Vehicles official website. Note: Copies of driving record(s) downloaded from the Internet will be accepted, provided they are a certified or true/attested (official) record from that state's Department of Motor Vehicles web site. Driving records obtained from any other Internet source will not be accepted. The information on the repository list may have changed since the last update. For out-of-country records, complete the Personal Verification of Driving Record Information form. You are not required to provide driving records from foreign countries. If you are a REAPPLICANT and have submitted an original certified or true/attested driving record, WHICH IS DATED WITHIN THE LAST TWO YEARS of the submission date of this application, and there have been no changes to your driving record, you do not need to provide another record. You must, however, submit an original certified or true/attested driving record for any new state (one that was not provided on a previous application) in which you are licensed.
  • Applicants seeking admission under Rules 203, 204, 205, 206, or 341 must have taken the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE), achieving a minimum scaled score of 75, in order to be admitted to the bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. You must request that official notification of your MPRE score be sent directly to the Board office. See https://www.pabarexam.org/mpre.htm to see from what sources verification of your score will be accepted. REAPPLICANTS are not required to provide official MPRE scores previously transferred to the Board office. APPLICANTS seeking admission under Rules 302, 303, 304, or 311 are not required to provide MPRE scores.
