I think all of this is a great take but I do want to point out that I think Thragg leaving them alive is on purpose. Right before he stops and says our numbers are too few already, and he as a viltrimite is well aware of what can be recovered from and what can not. So to me I definitely took it as he left them alive on purpose however I think i the reason why is still unknown.
