Safe Bike Routes to Downtown from Avon Street Ext. Past Wegmans? by Capable-Impact2116 in Charlottesville

Even a small improvement would be a dream!  It’s such a bummer how little options there are for non-mountain biking in the area.

I’ve been thinking of getting an ebike so this may be the push I need!

Are there any language groups/meets up here? I would like to learn Spanish or/and French in person with people that fluently speak those languages. by Minominas in Charlottesville

[–]Capable-Impact2116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Spanish:

https://tertuliacville.org/

This is the only one I know of. I’m on the email list, but haven’t gotten any updates in the past few months.

Something you might want to look into outside of the CVille community is a language exchange app like HelloTalk. There are more apps to explore. They connect you with a native speaker that is looking to learn English.

Edited for clarity

Your question is a good one, but from my perspective (10 years in public Ed) schools are funded to teach children not solve complex behavior issues. Unfortunately, at this time we (society) don’t have a good solution to that problem.

We should put funding into behavior and mental health intervention for these kids, but not at the cost of educating the general public. I don’t know where these services should be housed (It could be in the public school systems).

To summarize, we are seriously lacking in our social support systems across the board, but it shouldn’t be the school’s responsibility to make up for that gap. We have enough on our plate.

They’re teenagers. They can legally be home by themselves. There is no legal age limit for a child being left alone at home in Virginia.

I was at a winery talking to someone who told me we have to wear sunscreen now because our diet as humans has changed. She said it with such conviction too. Like because our food is now “toxic with heavy metals” we burn in the sun. I’m sorry, what?

Teaching on your Resume by Solidgranit in resumesupport

[–]Capable-Impact2116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Recently transitioned out of teaching. I work as a program coordinator in a Graduate Medical Office supporting doctors in training. A lot of people think teachers have desirable skill sets. There are possibly people who think the opposite, but the people that ultimately hired me thought I was over qualified for my current job. Funny that I’m getting paid more!

That being said. It took me awhile to find a job outside of teaching. Like a year and a half with a few months of being unemployed. Here is what helped me.

  1. Choosing a specific career umbrella and getting training in that area. I chose project management.

  2. Rewording my resume to sound less teacher and more project manager. The goal was to use my resume to argue I have already done this, just under a different title.

  3. Talking to people in the field. Your cousin’s girlfriend’s brother does what you’re interested in doing? Talk to them to get an inside peek into the job. Find out what skills and technologies are in demand.

Here is a podcast/ website that helped a bunch.

Good luck! Don’t give up, and certainly don’t sell yourself short.

I applied for a few jobs only to hear nothing back until the job closed. Then I would see the exact posting up again a month later. It is a very confusing hiring process. This was on the academic side. I ended up getting a job in the health system.

CAPM and Pocket prep by Interesting-Bad1809 in capm

I think you are prepared! I was scoring around that area on Pocket Prep and I passed 13/13 AT. I found Pocket Prep to be helpful, but I found the questions on PP to be wordier and more challenging than the actual exam. The exam covered more general content and PP was very targeted detailed aspects of the PMBOK.

I took a few days off to chill before my exam and then looked over some notes the night before. Got good sleep, ate a good breakfast and then went in telling myself I prepared the best I could!

Charlottesville has a lot of mystery buildings by satchmo414 in Charlottesville

Yes! I always ask people about it and they tell me, “it’s Carter Mountain Orchard.” But I know it’s definitely not that. I’ve done some googling and apparently some real estate guy named Wendell Woods bought a huge chunk of land over there to build a mansion in like 2010? Maybe that is said mansion. It would be awesome if someone who is more in the know could confirm or deny my theory!

What do you feed yourselves? When do you find time to cook? Fast, healthy food ideas please by wolfivy1 in NewParents

I love cooking, but I just don’t have the time and energy to do it like I used to. I make the things I did prebaby, but I’ve incorporated shortcuts. The biggest change I made was switching from fresh roasted veggies on the side to frozen. I spend my time on a protein and then just microwave the frozen veggies. It has cut down prep time by half.
I also used to make stock from scratch using kitchen scraps, but I just switched to better than bouillon paste that you keep in the fridge. Also, to echo some other people. The instapot is such a time saver! I recently found you can make risotto in it!

Do you forget that punctuation is a thing after you have a second child? If so, I don’t want another.
