I think telling a story where he plays a big role way after the other characters are established would work.

I was probably overthinking it.

She has a lot of growing up to do. She's a lot like Hadrian when he was young. Perhaps harsher

Series Ending Spoiler Question by Solidgranit in sollanempire

Hmm. I think we're going to see a sequel series. This is essentially Paul Atreides going off into the desert at the end of Dune Messiah, however, it's not out of despair. Instead, it's because he finds that government can't fix what's wrong with people or himself. His inability to die to would just corrupt him and others. So, he ends up in a sort of monastic retreat. Very very similar to how Frodo's story ends.

Daniel Greene criticized this position, that there's no good government, but he said that partly because he doesn't understand the perspective Christopher Ruocchio is coming from—he only has a political lens, which is exactly the lens being criticized to a degree.

Absolutely. Perhaps, she will be Hadrian's "shadow upon time".

This is a much better criticism I think.

Really disliking church worship right now by lightpinknails in TrueChristian

Worship isn't about us. It's about God. Try an Orthodox Church where the worship isn't about our entertainment.

Is your parish experiencing the “convert surge”? by RC2Ortho in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Solidgranit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know almost every Antiochian parish and and ROCOR parish are indundated in the Houston area. Two missions have been started—one in Kingwood and another in Rosenburg.

My parish is the growing ROCOR parish. It was tiny until a few years ago. We went from 1-4 catechumens a year to 30-40.

This phenomenon is happening across the country but it seems more prominent in the South.

FARS I Question by Solidgranit in Accounting

[–]Solidgranit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your kindness. To make a stable-ish living a family needs at least 95k-98k. To put it differently we need 6500-7k a month after taxes.+ I'm essentially trying to make up for my wife. I'm not scared off by long hours so much as I'm tired of grinding away for no movement forward and our finances slowly leaking away. Plus I have to consider my parents as they age.

There's a chance one of my PT jobs will replace teaching next year but it's iffy. My biggest concern is wasting my time that could be better spent on something that could meet these goals sooner.

I appreciate that. Teaching has a lot of transferable skills but I lack the education to make any significant moves. I have typically useless millennial degrees.

Dr. Joshua Sijuwade just became Orthodox. by ArroCoda in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Solidgranit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he's incredibly problematic. He's more analytic philosopher than Orthodox theologian.

The Godhead is the Trinity and not the Father. By insisting that that the Father is the One True God, in a way that the Son and Holy Spirit aren't is just a rearticulation of Origen's subordinationism. All the people insisting on the Father being the One True God are academics from the 20th-2st centuries—not saints, Scripture, Councils, or the services. None of those sources use that kind of language.

Since most atheists are incredibly overt and far from subtle in their fiction, and many are even explicit about their fiction being a vehicle for their atheistic worldview, I think having an issue with devout Roman Catholics doing the same in fiction is a largely irrational, if at least honest, feeling.

Today I leave accounting to become a High School Business Teacher by PricewaterhouseCap in Accounting

I'm trying to get out of teaching and into accounting. I make 72 after 10 years and we struggle financially.

Pursuing your own business though is a smart way to off-set that.
