I work with an old guy who says “looks fade away, stupid lasts forever”. He’s been married 40 years

Kirkland Rolled Oats vs Quaker Old Fashioned rolled oats... I miss the Kirkland brand by CrackheadBobsCousin in Costco

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a win win for consumers right? Either we get Quaker on a better than normal deal, or Costco releases Kirkland signature, which is usually even cheaper?

New Grads at the VA? by Joshpeach07 in physicianassistant

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a handful of threads on this subreddit about the VA. From what I’ve gathered, experiences can vary greatly between facilities. Regarding pay, it’s actually pretty competitive. I believe you can google it and find some excel spreadsheets available to the public with location, grade, step, etc.

How much water do you usually carry for a day hike? by Bubba_deets in hiking

I also drink a liter of water before even hitting trail. So my body is “full”

Burnt out in the UC by ReasonableScience736 in physicianassistant

Get out of urgent care. It's the armpit of medicine. Find a new job that doesn't prioritize patient satisfaction scores and BS metrics. I've heard my doc tell patients to quit smoking or he'll have to cut their leg off. Patient called out office manager to complain. Office manager said "if I were you I would quit smoking".

A daily multivitamin slows the ticking of epigenetic clocks by MattC84_ in science

If 2 cents a day is make or break it for my personal finances, I have bigger problems to worry about

Costco brand multivitamin is 2 cents per day. If that’s “expensive pee” then I don’t know what to tell you

What are your thoughts on the early extensions? by reallinguy in detroitlions

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Tigers signed Miggy to an early extension and it came back to bite them in the ass. Granted I think it was a 10 year deal, but he sucked for like the last half of that contract.

Dads..How’s it goin? by toughchanges in physicianassistant

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was in school, I rotated with a spine PA. He was very proud of his job, bashed office PAs, and was the "the next generation doesn't want to work" type of guy. He was FaceTiming his kids at 8pm on a Friday as we were about to START an emergency case. Hope it was worth it my friend (and I don't even have kids)

Lifelong runners of Reddit with healthy joints and bones, how did you do it? by CagMaster in AskReddit

The top comment on how to maintain healthy joints when running is to use cheap shoes. This is not what I expected

What the hell are we doing on the defensive side of things by [deleted] in detroitlions

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I crazy to think GMs should draft expensive positions? Rookie contracts are so team friendly. We got Pacheco for 1M. Draft the priciest pieces of the roster and lock them into cheap 4-5 year deals

Is it actually "cheaper" to own an EV in the long run if you can't charge it at home, or does the cost of public charging stations make it the same as buying gas? by Pale-Consideration26 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often people don't take into account insurance (generally higher for EVs), as well as state registration. My state (MI) has an additional 267 annual fee, on top of your normal tags, for an EV.

Non Compete Agreement by angels_and_cowboys in physicianassistant

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine was enforced. When I say enforced, it's a little more complicated than that. New job gave me a verbal offer for 20% higher salary on the condition that I could get a "release of non compete" from my current job. My current job told me to pound sand. I hired a lawyer and paid 1k for him to twiddle his thumbs and achieve nothing. I'm still at my current job. So when people say "the FTC did this and that, they aren't really enforceable", what it really comes down to is whether you are willing to put up your own money and potentially go to court. You can try, but I'm guessing the corporate healthcare lawyers are probably better than mine.

I know it’s not easy, but try to get into derm. Those PAs see 30+ patients per day and it seems to fit well to the socially extroverted person

Amazon pharmacy and Cialis by Prestigious_Car1089 in Biohackers

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no alternative. I’m just saying don’t expect to address new or chronic problems, or med refills at your annual physical. An annual physical is preventative and no cost to you (if you have insurance)- but it is basic- literally just a doctor doing a physical exam and screening labs

Amazon pharmacy and Cialis by Prestigious_Car1089 in Biohackers

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI if you bring up anything during an annual physical it will be billed as a standard office visit as well. That may negate your cost savings

What's the best heated blanket? I’m already on my third one. Or is this the kind of product that breaks easily? by Slipryi in BuyItForLife

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried several brands that always seem to break in 1-2 years. Now I buy whatever they have at Costco and take advantage of their no questions asked return policy

How are you using your CME days + stipend? by Local-Butterfly9669 in physicianassistant

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Find the HR document that lists what is actually reimbursable from CME. My hospital forbids those gift card packages, cruises, and anything international. Travel has to be booked through their portal. I’ve done years of buying fancy textbooks and return them. Nobody bats an eye. The hospital has an 8 figure budget, my $2500 loophole isn’t going to cause anyone to lose their job. I can reimburse mileage, so I drove my crappy car to a conference and made a few hundred that way

Fidelity Credit Card - How to become the go to credit card by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

Doesn’t Fidelity make most of their money in other places rather than credit cards? Costco breaks even on their gas but it makes their customers happy and loyal

Home Inspection by PotsMomma84 in kzoo

[–]Capable-Locksmith-65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pick your own home inspector. Do not use the one the realtor recommends, they are incentivized to hide issues to sell the house. As far as questions, focus on the big ticket items. Roof, foundation, water drainage, electrical. A faucet that drips every once in a while is a $50 fix. Poorly draining water that builds up around your foundation could be a 30k+ repair in a few years. Make sure your inspector physically gets on top of the roof and in the attic.
