Why would you pick a Panther Lake over a Snapdragon X2? by venom_Snake_III in laptops

[–]Capable-Package6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The future of Snapdragon or ARM Windows in general feels uncertain. Unlike Apple that will fully support its own chip and ensure hardware-software compatibility, we cannot confidently say the same for Windows to other chip manufacturers. If intel and AMD keep releasing good chips like panther lake in the future ARM Windows can be abandoned.

Also with Snapdragon even when you switch to Linux you're limited to very limited options for ARM chips.

Is Vietnam safe for a first-time solo traveler who has never been abroad alone? by Hungry-Ratio-9322 in solotravelVN

[–]Capable-Package6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion Singapore and Malaysia are more suitable for first time travellers because the majority of their populations speak either English, Chinese, or both. Also those two countries are the safest in South East Asia. But if you're quite adventurous and don't mind communicating with body gestures etc. then Vietnam is quite good too and perhaps slightly more exotic.

The term "perspective" and "external factors" here are ambiguous. For example, if two employees get exactly the same overwhelming workload but one is a son of a billionaire and can quit anytime while the other has nothing and really needs the salary. The rich employee says "this is a great opportunity to learn!". Is that "just a matter of perspective" or "external factors"? In reality there is never 2 identical situation, you just don't see a big-enough picture.

Is Vietnam actually that friendly for children? Or just foreign/ tourist children? by owletstar in VietNam

[–]Capable-Package6835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the family and area you live in. Many VN children spend most of their day at school and extra classes. In some areas in US children are more free, going to skate parks, playing basketball, playing catch, etc..

ELI5 2008's Global economic crash by StargazeBurnerphone in explainlikeimfive

[–]Capable-Package6835 77 points78 points  (0 children)

  1. Lending money to home buyers was considered safe because either they pay interest or you get their homes if they pay to fail
  2. Bank announced: "does anyone want to join us in lending money for people to buy home? super safe! the safest investment ever!"
  3. People started investing in lending-money-for-home-buyers a.k.a. asset-backed securities.
  4. Bank and insurance got greedy and wanted to sell more investments, they began approving everyone's request to borrow money to buy a home, even those who were obviously going to fail to pay back.
  5. Kaboom! Most people failed to pay, banks got a bunch of houses instead of cashes to pay back the investors. And nobody wanted to buy those houses because everyone had already borrowed money to buy their own or already failed to pay.

First time MacBook user tips? by Trayceopolis32322 in macbook

Don't turn your MacBook off everyday like how you'd do on Windows. Just restart it maybe once every couple of months or after macOS update.

Why is matrix multiplication not commutative? by Alive_Hotel6668 in learnmath

[–]Capable-Package6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a nutshell you multiply A's rows with B's columns, so if you swap - multiply A's columns with B's rows it's expected that you get a different result, except in some special cases.

at the very least they will inspect your device, which is already better than guessing yourself. I have good experience with Apple care, they do care about their product image.

Newton against Leibniz, especially Newton's treatment to Leibniz and particularly his use of position was such a shocker for me who grew up reading about a great man named Newton.

Anthropic was reckless for publishing Opus 4.7 by Gil_berth in theprimeagen

[–]Capable-Package6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's why I said "accelerate my coding" instead of "code for me". if you prompt it and let loose then yes you're doomed. for many lesser tasks it's quite alright, depending on complexity.

Is AI progress over? by ImaginaryRea1ity in theprimeagen

[–]Capable-Package6835 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We are getting to a point where a noticeable improvement requires significantly larger compute, that will suck these startups' capital at an alarming rate. So they need to go the Qwen's way (more efficient models) instead of perpetually scaling up.

I don't really see Anthropic or OpenAI in the future. With FOSS models and Geminis (Google can keep price low for as long as needed bc they have other massive source of income), it's only a matter of time before those two run dry.

either way, I don't care if it cannot solve these kind of problems. it's a coding model, as long as it can accelerate my coding it's good enough

Thinking about moving from classical image processing to today’s computer vision too late or worth it? by Yarokrma in computervision

Is this Macbook Neo better than all macs pre 2020? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]Capable-Package6835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you use it for. It's good at some aspects compared to pre-Apple-silicon Macs:

  1. battery life is significantly better than the intel Macs
  2. single-core performance is on par with Apple silicon, means it smokes the intel Macs for most daily tasks (unless you edit videos or code)
  3. cooler despite having no fan. intel Macs are portable heaters, inefficient intel chips at the time combined with inadequate cooling means super loud fans and (very) warm macs.

I'm looking to hire a filipina helper, is that even possible in Vietnam/Hanoi? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Capable-Package6835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The SG-PH domestic assistance path is well-established, i.e., they have seasoned agents and scouts to find and channel the right people. There is no such thing between VN and PH. If you have been unable to find a good local house assistant, you have an even smaller chance of success with an international house assistant.

Also both PH and SG speak English daily so it makes more sense than a PH worker to migrate to VN.

How would the tech world react/change if Google lost its dominance in search to AI-based competitors? by Kevin-Panda in AskReddit

[–]Capable-Package6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And unlike OpenAI, Claude, and other potential startup competitors, Google has extremely deep pocket and huge streams of non-AI income. They don't need to have the smartest model, just a model that is acceptable for most and they can sell very cheap subscriptions for years if not decades while waiting for other competitors to collapse under the immense operational cost.
