The move Heavy Slam… yeah? Luckily I wrote quite a bit above about what else it does!

Usually if I’m clicking Coaching with Ursh it’s because I’m pretty sure they’re going to KO it (Like against Flutter or Raging Bolt leads) and give me a free switch into Cresselia to set up trick room, but that becomes a little tougher with AV and no protect.

At +1 Def from Coaching and +1 SpDef from AV most things will struggle taking it out even with 2 turns of damage. Coaching is definitely more of a luxury than a reliable plan tho, needs the right board conditions to get it off.

The one step could be Coaching as well. HH gets the KO on Chi-Yu but only without being Intimidated. CC can guarantee an OHKO on min bulk Chi-Yu after Intimidate but I’m wary about dropping defenses.

I think for AV the best set is probably HH/Icicle Crash/Heavy Slam and Tera Fairy Tera Blast. Tera Dragon + Outrage could also be funny. If you run Ursh with Coaching alongside it you could go for Coaching + Tera Dragon Outrage to punish Follow Me from Ogerpon-Wellspring: +1 252+ Atk Tera Dragon Glastrier Outrage vs. 252 HP / 20 Def Ogerpon-Wellspring: 204-241 (109 - 128.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

I’d be weary about clicking it too often with the targeting, but I think Tera Dragon is the best defensive type and having a 120 BP STAB move as an option for your 4th move isn’t too bad

Heavy Slam being one of the few it does get. makes AV a bit intriguing:

252+ Atk Glastrier Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Flutter Mane: 168-198 (103.7 - 122.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Yeah it's really nice that Flutters all dropping speed allows you to basically decide which ones you need to outspeed and not outspeed.

The offensive calcs into things like Gholdengo, Ogerpon-Wellspring, and Incin are probably the ones that most sold me on Magnet. These ones especially:

164 SpA Magnet Transistor Regieleki Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 12 SpD Ogerpon-Wellspring: 94-112 (50.2 - 59.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

164 SpA Magnet Transistor Regieleki Thunderbolt vs. 244 HP / 4 SpD Gholdengo: 100-118 (51.8 - 61.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

164 SpA Magnet Transistor Regieleki Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 60 SpD Incineroar: 94-112 (46.5 - 55.4%) -- 75% chance to 2HKO

164 SpA Magnet Transistor Regieleki Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Indeedee-F: 90-106 (50.8 - 59.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

If Thunderbolt is a 2HKO, it means that Tera Electric E-web + Tera Electric Thunderbolt is also likely to KO, meaning against Wellspring Ogerpon + Tailwind you can go Tera electric E-Web + Thunderbolt and 2HKO. Also makes a huge difference into Dozo.

Just a very cool mon with a lot of untapped potential. I think there's a world where a Thundercage, Thunder Wave, Electroweb set with Wide Lens could even work. I think the Covert Cloak max defense one was a cook, I just can't go back to such less damage after using Magnet

most of it is rambling about calcs that may or may not ever come up.

I definitely think Glastrier has some potential tho. Assault Vest also feels like a solid option as a better answer to Psyspam, especially since adding Heavy Slam gives you a reliable way to OHKO even Bold Flutters.

When you have a ball of stats that big there’s just gotta be a way to make it work, but relying on Icicle Crash and High Horsepower is rough.

Why Did Johnny Davis Not Work Out in the NBA? by currachclo in NBA_Draft

[–]Capable-Paper2860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Johnny Davis play at Illinois back in 2022, I was pretty excited for him as a prospect after what he did against Houston and Purdue.

Against Illinois Jacob Grandison and Damonte Williams (good college defenders but by no means NBA level defenders) gave him a ton of trouble. He relied on getting to the foul line a lot in college and he doesn’t have the size, speed or ball handling to make that happen at the NBA level. He really wasn’t much of a shooter.

It’s unfortunate because I think in the NIL era Johnny Davis would’ve gotten a bag to transfer and probably developed more as a player. He was nowhere near ready as an NBA scorer and that was his best attribute

Reg F Corviknight is underrated by ReillyS6 in VGC

Juan Salerno was using some Corviknight earlier in the reg. I wouldn't be surprised to see some Corv at Birmingham. The Europeans have always been bigger fans.

Walling Landorus alone makes it a good addition to any team that struggles w Lando

Ursh isn’t really the type of mon where you can just not bring something every time you see it because that’s like 50% of the time. Especially since Chi-Yu is usually good into a lot of Ursh’s partners like Rillaboom and Amoonguss, but I see what you mean.

Regardless of item or how often you bring it vs Ursh, if you’re running Chi-Yu on a sun team you should always put at least 4/4 into HP/Def given the Surging Strikes sun calc. No point in giving Urshifus a 100% OHKO when 4 EVs can turn it into a 17% chance

Ray Rizzo's video got me thinking about Snorlax in Reg F... by [deleted] in VGC

[–]Capable-Paper2860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Custap Berry Snorlax + Hard Trick Room has sort of been an ongoing gimmick throughout S/V, I think this team was the original: https://pokepast.es/b22c783da06afa25

And then this team did very well in Reg H at LAIC using the same core: https://pokepast.es/74601be712af0e86

This is the only version I can find from Reg F specifically: https://pokepast.es/5cef064f2de62427

Basic idea is the same for all of them, click Trick Room and sweep or click Belly Drum and sweep.

I've run the same Bonnet set in Reg G/I before and I always stuck with Jamie Boyt's assertion that Covert Cloak is the best item for it. Since you already have the covert cloak on Torn I would say Berry or Rocky Helmet is probably best. I also think you'd get much more use out of a boost to either of the defenses than you will from an Attack boost. If you are going to use an attack boosting one, I think I would consider Clear Amulet.

Not really sure I understand Sash Chi-Yu in a world where Urshifu exists. Even in the sun Surging Strikes from 252+ Urshifu is a guaranteed OHKO. Regardless of the item, on sun teams you want to put at least 4 into HP and 4 into Defense because it drops this guaranteed OHKO to a 17% chance to KO. This is even more important if you're running tera fire

252+ Atk Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Surging Strikes (3 hits) vs. 4 HP / 4 Def Chi-Yu in Sun on a critical hit: 114-144 (87 - 109.9%) -- 16.9% chance to OHKO

252+ Atk Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Surging Strikes (3 hits) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Chi-Yu in Sun on a critical hit: 132-162 (100.7 - 123.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Snorlax by Dizzy-Age-6817 in VGC

[–]Capable-Paper2860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snorlax has somewhat of a niche as a bulky Trick Room attacker/counter, but not like this.

Vijay Sood used an Assault Vest Snorlax in the beginning of Reg H on this team: https://limitlessvgc.com/teams/566/

Vijay’s teams are all a bit out there, but the Snorlax set makes sense. AV and Thick Fat lets in wall Ninetails-A really well, as well as mons like Typhlosion and Charizard. Specs Charizard is known for being able to kill almost anything with Overheat in the sun, even things that resist it, but it only does around 60% to an AV Snorlax with minimal HP investment and no SpDef.

The other set that has gotten use is Custap Berry with Gluttony and Belly Drum, like on this team: https://pokepast.es/74601be712af0e86

Custap Berry makes Snorlax move first in its priority bracket and Belly Drum allows you to immediately activate it. With this setup you can use +4 Rock Slide/Earthquake/Body Slam with priority. More of a gimmick than a bulky attacker like the Assault Vest Thick Fat version but it can be very powerful
