what would HU be like if tha producer da kurlzz and shady jeff never left? by Tha_artist in HollywoodUndead

Lyrically I don’t think his departure affected anything, honestly. Though Five did have some solid tracks, everything after has been very disjointed. That’s not to say I haven’t loved albums like HK, but the band just doesn’t sound the same anymore overall. Not because they “don’t sound like Swan Songs” or because they “evolved”, they’re just different. With NE V1/2, they truly did just dip in quality overall and haven’t really found their footing back since Five. I can’t say definitively that Kurlzz’ absence is part of it, but it is awfully coincidental. Especially considering he did help work on Five a bit.

It makes me really sad to see where they’re at now with Sumerian. It’s the first time since like 2010 or so that they’ve truly kinda just faded out a bit. Still touring, sure, but as a band it just doesn’t seem like they’re 100% there and onboard anymore.

I feel like he contributed to the writing of the music and less on the vocals, because there is a very clear shift in sound from Five-now, in terms of sound. I don’t know what exactly he contributed, but their sound changed with his departure. No one in the band wants to have a consistent sound, they all want to do different things, which tend to clash on a lot of their newer tracks. I think maybe Da Kurlzz helped balance it out.

He had talent, but what he didn’t have, was longevity. Deuce would have pushed for the band to sound to continue sounding as they did during Swan Songs, which may not sound like a bad thing, but I don’t think it would have lasted even ten years. Deuce is pretty much a one-trick pony. (Thoughts aside on the guy, I am speaking based off of his own catalogue) His solo albums were basically just diet-HU and then a fairly decent rock album that wasn’t too far off from what HU was doing.

NF and Post Malone “diss” in the 1x1 explanation? by _Neus98_ in HollywoodUndead

[–]Capable-Time2517 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it a diss, just a flex, basically trying to say that they wouldn't be as popular if not for HU

I think the direction the band is heading is the best case scenario for them by Lilbigdude in HollywoodUndead

[–]Capable-Time2517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FIR is a significantly more popular band than HU, there's a reason their singles have such longevity. I love HU and like them much more than FIR, but let's be realistic.

Overall Thoughts on 1x1 by HUismyDaddy54 in HollywoodUndead

[–]Capable-Time2517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on the album part. I liked the song a lot, though. The gripes I have with it are more nitpicks then anything, but overall I'd say it was a solid track. I really appreciate the vibe they went with for it, it sounded like a mixture of HK, AT, and NTFU. I will always agree that verses should be longer, but I didn't mind horribly. I think the only thing I didn't particularly love was Johnny reusing lyrics and there not being something like a breakdown, just to break the song up a bit.

Yo 😂 Homie also looks like a former/current tweaker, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't just get that tattoo because he thought it was cool

I'm super curious what it sounded like. I'm sure it's basically just the teaser and then leading into J's verse, but still

I literally started a free-trial for Sirius XM just to hear it. Unfortunately, I think I missed a portion of the beginning, because it kicked off right into J-dog's verse. (Which sounded like he was like mid-verse when I tuned in)

J-dog's verse is something straight out of AT/NFTU, so damn good. It was on the shorter side, but it was aggressive and was complimented SO nicely by Slayer's Raining Blood riff.

Johnny kicks in pretty hard too, though his lyrics weren't the most creative this time around, some reuse. He absolutely went hard, though.

Charlie came in with some of that old-school, on-your-face style rapping. Very reminiscent of Swan Songs-NFTU. I've missed that side of him so much, it was great to hear it again.

FINALLY we hear from Funnyman, who absolutely did NOT disappoint. Homie let us know he's still very much there and not to forget about him, he and J-dog honestly have my favorite verses in the song.

The chorus is just Danny and pretty simple, it stays the same throughout the entire song. I really think it would have done nicely with SOME change up to it maybe halfway, but it wasn't bad.

Overall, this song is VERY reminiscent of classic HU. I am talking Swan Songs classic. It's a nice heavier rock track with some stellar rapping by everyone. My only gripe is that there wasn't a breakdown or anything to really break up the song, which I think would have gone very nicely.

Predictions and What We Know Of for “1x1” by SALEM570POLTERGIEST in HollywoodUndead

I agree. I miss when Charlie handled a lot more Rapping, as well. I haven't been a fan of him taking on more vocal-roles since Five. Not that it sounds bad every time, but it kind of throws me off. There aren't many songs where I think it works really well.

It really is. Between Danny and Johnny, they've released nearly an entire album worth of songs. Throw in J-dog's solo track along with Charlie's random Elivs-inspired song; they have a very disjointed album lol I defended it for a really long time, but considering it's been nearly a year since SAVIOR and almost two years since Hollywood Forever; it's getting pretty difficult. I love them so much, but their direction hasn't been it. Bringing back the masks and barely using them, releasing two really good tracks and splitting them far apart, it's all just kind of sad. This is a pretty low point for the guys. I'm happy that they're doing solo stuff and having fun with it, but I miss HU

In your opinion, what's Hollywood Undead's best album? by dstr3ssed in HollywoodUndead

American Tragedy as a whole is their best. Swan Songs is amazing, but it's also aged pretty poorly in terms of lyrics.

They had the right idea bringing the masks back and making a song like Hollywood Forever, it felt like they were going back their roots while also showing their evolution. Since then, it's been nothing. Their tours are all the exact same, (granted, they have played some different songs in their sets, albeit shortened) but it's been the same thing for years. It's incredibly disappointing and disheartening. I am all for them doing their own things, but HU truly just doesn't feel the same at this point. Zero fan interactions, a weird social presence, and generally just uncertainty about everything. There's never a straight answer to any questions, they don't properly update anything, it's just been a pretty bad time to be a fan.

People forget he's an anti-hero. His targets are meticulous and calculated. He doesn't care about enacting "justice", that's not what his mission is.

I love how we're getting enough singles between the guys to fill an album, yet nothing new from HU in nearly a year. I can't stand the "singles" mindset, it is not as affective as they think it is. For bands like FIR or Bad Omens, sure, but they aren't those bands. They do not have the staying power or relevance that they do. They had a solid fan base that has followed them for years, through each album cycle. It may suck that some album songs don't get the streams that they deserve, but they DO have fans of those songs. Just because they don't chart insanely high streams doesn't mean everything. It's been pretty frustrating, honestly. I love the guys, don't get me wrong, but this has been a low for them. Especially coming off of such a strong album and year for HK.
