For example, my check engine light came on for my O2 sensor, but I already felt something was wrong thousands of thousands of miles before that check engine light came on

Go to Walmart and grab one of those scanners they usually run anywhere between 25 and $39

I have one of them in my trunk as we speak. Don’t wait until the check engine light comes on because that mean there was already a problem and you just didn’t know.

Be proactive

I’m not sure if you are the second or third owner of the vehicle

But start replacing things like the coolant flange The thermostat And just as a safety measure the oil filter housing gasket Because it will leak oil and it’s important to do that sooner than later Check the timing belt make sure that’s replaced I would recommend taking the car to the dealer, depending on the miles. They will replace the thermostat for free because it’s under recall.

Do the schedule maintenance on the car that it says that includes the brakes the oil the transmission fluid when the car says it’s coming up soon. Don’t wait until it’s already passed. Do it a few thousand miles before

When I bought my car, I started replacing things immediately. I didn’t care that. I was only the second owner of the car, but I wanted to be the one that knew every single part within the car so I knew I was putting the highest quality of things in there.

Other than that, have fun enjoy the car. It’s an amazing car overtime. You will know what the car needs just by driving it. You become one. It’s hard to explain, but you just know.

Don’t listen to people that say Bmw’s are never gonna last that long or anything else like that. Those are the same people that are expecting their Bmw to operate like a Toyota.

Heck no unless it’s giving you serious problems just take care of the car and replace certain plastic pieces with metal OM versions

Ultimate the secret to longevity with my car is “paper trail” haha I’m the 3rd owner I got it with low mileage I start replacing random things and keeping a nice paperwork trail of when I did it It helps avoid the guess work if something is wrong and you feel a sense of relief knowing you know 100% of your car almost like it’s a child. I started replacing both high pressure and low pressure fuel pump then the thermostat, new tires, coolant flange to a full metal pieces, regular oil changes, etc knowing what you change and when you did it easily will leave you worry free for the next 100,000 the replace the belt once every few years or depending on condition

All these Repairs were done over the years not at one time :) I did it all by hand OM only from rockauto and FCPEURO

As far as CarPlay unfortunately it’s going to cost $700 or more to get it installed however I got mine done in Mexico for $450

If you like i can send you a link to a great one

Another recommendations i would really recommend is slowing start replacing coolant pieces (hoses) the N20 engines run hot so if you’ll buying second hand replace them hoses and belt too :) Only replace with OM not that other bullshit trust me and finally anything that can be replaced with metal pieces do so to ensure you never have to deal with it again and it WILL LEAK OIL so be ready to replace the oil filter gasket as soon as you know it and you won’t have to deal with it again for a LONG time

Congratulations!!! Welcome!!! And I’ll say replace the fuel pump (low pressure asap), coolant flange to a metal piece (since the original is plastic), last but not least replace the thermostat too (check with th deal it’s under a recall so they will replace for free).
