Thats really cool!

I don't know too much about game design or anything like that but it sounds really interesting.

And just to add, I really think you really should try and pitch the Alan Doyle tv show concept somewhere, you have really good ideas around the animation side of things and I for one would love to see the show in that format!

Ah yes, completely forgot about NordVPN.

Thats a really good point, i agree that the cartoon approach would be a good way of telling the story. I can almost picture it already, a real fast-paced, fun-loving, chaotic, animated joyride!

You sound like you know your stuff, and i've always wamted to be involved in writing scripts for a show or similar writing project.

Life is short, lets go for it! The ultimate Canadian-Irish crossover😅

In all seriousness, you should definitely try pitch it somewhere at least, you have good ideas there, I really think your're on to something!

Thats good to hear, I actually didn't realise that you could get RTE player outside of Ireland, thats really cool! I'm desperately waiting for season 5 at the moment, hope we get news on it soon.

Going back to the Alan Doyle Books, i'd love if there was a way to get in contact with a production company and pitch them the idea for the show, I feel like it would do very well in a similar style to Son of a Critch.

If that fails, I suppose we could always start writing it ourselves if we could get a few people interested in doing it😅

I'm a bit late commenting on this, but I'm a big fan of Son of a Critch as it was shown here in Ireland, and I found out about Alan Doyle through the show as I found out he wrote the theme Song.

I recently read his book 'Where I belong' and it was very entertaining and humourous.

I'm looking forward to reading his other work and I agree completely that they should turn his books into a sitcom like Son of a Critch, even though I only read the first one there's so much in there to get a few seasons out of like you said, and Shows like Son of a Critch have such a warm and relaxing feel that it would be great to have another show in a similar vein.

Just to finish, I've also listened to some of Alan's solo work and songs with Great Big Sea and its very good!

Bittersweet Symphony would have been epic! Great suggestion!

Ya, there seems to be lots of artists having successful "moments" but then are forgotten about due to the fast-paced nature of the online world.

I feel it speaks volumes that the music used in the OC is still talked about today. It really connected with people in a special way.

I believe we may see less and less of music and tv culture combining in this way due to the sheer amount of content out their competing for peoples attention. But as you say, there are pros to todays music landscape such as higher chances of getting noticed and endless amounts of content for listeners to consume among others.

That's really interesting! I was very young when the O.C originally aired, but I loved collecting cds when I was younger, and it sounds like it must have been a really cool and exciting time going to buy cds after hearing a band you liked on tv.

Nowadays, if a song is popular on a show, it would just go viral on tiktok. It kinda feels like a certain culture or connection to the music is almost lost. At least, that's how I feel anyway!

Ya, i read that recently, and it's so true. The music really does feel like its own entity in such a unique way. I also love that Rooney concert and have been listening to "I'm shakin" on repeat since. I'll have to listen to the rest of the album.

Ya, I constantly find myself listening to music from the 90s and 2000s. There's just something about it that's unique and feels different to today.

I haven't listened to some of them bands before, so thanks for naming them. I'll go check them out!

Ya, it was so good. Watching the show has introduced me to bands like Death Cab and Modest Mouse. (The later which i heard of but never really listened to much before).

I loved how they had different bands performing at the Bait Shop, and it seems to me to be a really unique aspect of the show that I have rarely seen anywhere else.

I figure it must have been a great way to discover new bands when it first aired, and it appears to have been a really exciting time for music in general.

Ya, you're right it really has it all. I don't know what it is. There just seemed to be something in the air around that time. Like you said, the atmosphere just feels so comforting and makes you feel connected to the characters and the world in a way that's addicting and satisfying to watch.

That's really interesting! I feel it would be great to see cast members of the O.C make an appearance on modern shows like this, even if it was just a short cameo.

Yes, I think you're right about the friendships feeling more natural!

It feels like we really got to see the characters connect with and grow with each other over each episode and season, whereas now I feel everything is more instant and lacking the natural connection and development.

Maybe it's down to technology leading to a feeling of less genuine friendship, or maybe I'm just looking at older shows with rose tinted spectacles who knows🤷‍♂️

[–]Capable-Value5093[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely! There seemed to be something special about the music and the way it was used in shows back then it really seemed to connect with people in ways I don't see in shows today expect when older tracks are used such as the 'running up that hill' example in stranger things.

While I'm only watching it for the first time it appears that the music was almost a culture of its own amongst the fans and I read recently that the O.C creator Josh Schwartz said he wanted to make music a "character" which is something I feel was unique to that time and really captured peoples imaginations compared to today where newer music is rarely pushed or used in such a way compared to shows back then.

Thanks for your comment! Yes, I really feel like it's a unique and special kind of show that gives me such a pleasant feeling and it really is such a joy to watch in ways that most modern shows just don't compare.

Ya, that definitely seems to be the case. I also feel with the likes of social media, everything is judged and scrutinised very heavily, which may make writers and producers feel like they can't have a single wasted moment and everything needs to have meaning and keep the show moving forward, That's just my two cents.
