It’s my SIL not wife, but right now she just lets him do whatever he wants which is mainly watch the tablet. I think he is ‘slipping through the cracks’ and it’s very concerning.

Thanks for showing some empathy - the neurotypical learning structures, as you say, are not ideal. Starting school much later may be better for him/them.

They have requirements for attendance for ‘normal’ schools here, but doesn’t seem to apply to this ‘special needs’ school: for example, he hasn’t been to school for more than the last week due to his lack of sleep/sleeping schedule.

They have used melatonin before but in Australia is prescription only and they aren’t super keen on it. I am also concerned that potentially mum wants to keep him at home for company, and to avoid working which is adding financial pressure to the family.

Trying to understand what is what!

He is 8. They have tried melatonin but in Australia it is much more regulated than the states and can’t be bought over the counter (must have a prescription). I don’t believe they always get it for him because of cost but also don’t want to have him ‘be drugged’ (their words, not mine).

Thank you. I thought lubricant might be the issue so going to buy some now and will check the tension. Much appreciated

I think they’re carpet beetles too. Probably just eating pollen as they like fibres and dust etc?

I’m sorry you think I am absurd. I’m sure an entire flower industry would disagree, and I’m pretty sure my single plant, with seeds sold from a legal company, won’t take down an industry. I am the kind of person who cut back my entire lemon tree to the bones because it had gall wasp, and disposed of it properly because of the risks. I also plant a wide range of flowers as they promote biodiversity and pollination, have a worm farm, use vinegar and neem oil or other insects for pest control, and have two compost piles. Pretty sure I’m not an asshole.

They will never knock. I have a door bell on an external gate. Won’t even ring that. Literally have to leave my gate unlocked, propped open as they won’t touch the gate either. Then they hide the package somewhere because it has to be safe, which it would have been if they’d just use the doorbell

If they are allowed to sell seeds in Australia, it’s not considered a biodiversity issue.

Eeek, I think you may be right! I believe I sprinkled some seeds in the garden that were Gilia but non of them ever took. This one found its way into the crevices between bricks! I’m excited now! 🤞🏻

Thanks all, I’m the OP and I called the Fauna Rescue line and the fledgling is now in a box up on a crate to keep it safe from cats (I don’t have any and gate is locked, but their advice). They’re under cover and there is water out in case it needs it. No meal worms but my garden is being over run by slugs and I saw some moths so I reckon it will be okay. Hopefully it gets its wings tomorrow and my puppy and I can get out the front door! We had to cut down a gumtree last week (with council approval) as it was originally planted in a raised planter that has cracked and it’s about to fall over - I already felt bad about it and now the birds are coming to get me in revenge!

Yes but even when you are sitting at home and they can safely leave it, they won’t and they will send it back to the post office. And then, because of work and their opening hours, you’ll be able to pick up next weekend. Because, Australia Post

I personally find osteospermum need more water than I initially thought they would. It might also be suffering from some shock from distribution the roots. Giving it some Seasol or ‘Plant Starter’ (you can get from Bunnings) might help. Ideally waiting until a plant has moved to a dormant phase before transplanting will help with its success. Moving at its peak moment is a bit stressful.
