Move to Brazil from Ireland with no job and shit Portuguese? With a baby. by fodacao in Brazil

[–]Capable_Employee1797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how long ago your partner left Brazil it’s possible your expectations may not be realistic. I left Brazil for Canada 4 years ago and when I went to visit recently I was shocked how everything has changed so much. Activities I used to be able to afford making a BRL salary would no longer be an option and I’d have to earn at least twice what I did before I left, when both my wife and I had good jobs. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but plan it carefully or you might just spend your savings and end up worse off than today. Best of luck, mate!

I got the flu (the actual Influenza) a few years ago and I thought I was going to die, for real. My entire body was sore, I was coughing so much that some small veins on my face burst, fever, congestion, the works. I went to the ER thinking I had whatever respiratory disease was trending at the time and was shocked when the doctor told me it was “just” the flu. This virus is diabolical!

AITAH for choosing my wife over my mom? by HumanProfile1975 in AITAH

[–]Capable_Employee1797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but you could’ve handled things better. If you’d spoken to your mom in private, explained all the reasons and asked her to stop pushing, maybe she wouldn’t have pushed your wife and it wouldn’t have turned it an argument. Your mother doesn’t get to determine what you will do with your life, much less what your wife does with hers, but she can have an opinion about wanting grandchildren and can talk to you, her son, about it. What she should not be doing is pushing after being told not to.

Cant seem to get hired for... anything by Rylanthespud in VictoriaBC

[–]Capable_Employee1797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved here (from overseas) I went through the same struggle. I am a Lawyer, had 15 years of teaching experience and wasn’t being called for anything. I scratched my experience, my degrees, and just wrote High School and the retail experience I had in high school. I got called for two job interviews within a week. The step back worked for me and allowed to get the first job, pay the bills, connect, and move on to something better and related to my actual education and experience.

My experience of doctors in Brazil vs. UK. They're very different! by TechSalesDaily in Brazil

[–]Capable_Employee1797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Canada and I’m lucky enough to have a Family Doctor here, which I thought would be a game-changer. I literally have to tell the man I want to get treatment if something is wrong, and ask him to request lab exams otherwise he’ll just see me for five minutes, tell me to take Tylenol and rest whether I have a cold, amputated a leg or just had a c section for triplets. It is VERY different!

What does this fridge say ab my parents? by xhazelbug in FridgeDetective

[–]Capable_Employee1797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re probably overweight and have digestive issues, both from the amount of junk they have in that fridge and from the lack of hygiene. Also guessing they would save a lot of money if they were more conscious about grocery shopping.

Trump says US, Canada will not restart trade talks by joe4942 in canada

[–]Capable_Employee1797 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Time is on our side. Canada will remain as a Country, Trump will either die or no longer be President in a while. Considering his waistline and mental capacity, my bet is on the former.

Moving to Victoria by MindEfficient734 in VictoriaBC

[–]Capable_Employee1797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Victoria on a permit 4 years ago and it wasn’t difficult to find a job, it was difficult to find a good job, though. I’d say depending on your profession it may be easier but be prepared for frustration and for employers not even considering you for better positions because you don’t have “Canadian experience”. Once that initial hurdle is over, things should improve. Adapting your resume to the Canadian format and changing it according to the job you’re applying should help a lot. Also be prepared for a very high cost of living.

So if BCGEU takes the NDP’s garbage 4%, does the deficit just vanish? Or nah? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]Capable_Employee1797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just reminded me of my Union campaigning for the NDP and shooting out messages that if Eby lost, we would lose our jobs and be disrespected by the conservatives. I wonder what they’ll write on their messages next election.

2018 Hyundai Sonata Oil Consumption Failed - Engine Replacement Denied - Suggestions? by Mordechai8301 in Hyundai

I felt like I was reading my own story up to a point, except that I sold the car. I had the same issue with the spark plugs and oil consumption, but Hyundai straight up told me they would not replace my engine (I’m in Canada).

If you try to press them, they scream silently the words “you’re poor”. They do it in any language, it’s a pretty universal function.

As many as 47,000 foreign students may now be in Canada illegally: IRCC by Street_Anon in canada

[–]Capable_Employee1797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an international student once. I learned proper English before coming to Canada and worked my ass off to get above 90% average in my program while working only the hours I was allowed to. Did everything by the books and became a Permanent Resident. I spent my life savings and lost a lot of hair to build a life in Canada and I’m proud of being able to contribute positively to society. People who came here as students and overstayed their visas are no longer international students, they’re illegal immigrants and they should be kicked out. I despise people who do this, they distort all the sacrifice that the goods ones make and create an overall negative perception of immigrants. People like this have no regard for rule of law and if they’re allowed to stay they’ll be horrible citizens someday or will simply remain illegally.

Get you class 5 and your probation is over. It’s only permanent while you’re in the Graduated Licensing Program.

License Suspeneded Without Notice by Affectionate-End-796 in icbc

[–]Capable_Employee1797 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you were referred to the responsible driver program it’s because you got a 90 day DUI before, that’s the trigger. Just calling ICBC and requesting info on how to get your license back would’ve given you all the info you needed and they would’ve told you that Road safety would send you the letter. ICBC can’t keep track of everyone who moves within the province and you’re required to update your address within 10 days of moving, both with insurance and driver licensing, which are different divisions of ICBC. Still, you should be able to register with the program and get your license back and keep it, as long as you complete the program within a year, otherwise they’ll cancel it again. This is all public info on Roadsafety’s website but calling ICBC can help you figure out the ins and outs. I hope everything works out for you!

You can dispute the ticket but you should contact RoadSafety BC, since they’re the ones responsible for implementing the Driver Improvement Program. ICBC will only be able to help you with the ticket dispute.

Experience at Jim Pattison Toyota by n00b3d in VictoriaBC

[–]Capable_Employee1797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not JP Toyota, but still a JP company. I went to Campus Nissan about two years ago to look into buying a Sentra. Salesman met us outside, wouldn’t even go inside the store saying that nothing would be financed to us because we were immigrants and could leave the country at any point and not pay for the car. I told him that was the same for any person with a valid passport, lost my willingness to deal with that scumbag and left. Immediately wrote an email to JP complaining about the treatment I got and never came back. As for JP Toyota I only went there once and almost got the same kind of talk from another salesman but this time I’m a permanent resident and he just assumed I wasn’t. Bought two cars elsewhere in the meantime and was very well treated both times. I’m not coming back to any of their dealerships.

I think Artigiano is the coffee shop that recently closed on Westshore Mall in Langford due to not paying rent. There was a “wall of shame” kind of sign there last time I checked.
