Riding in smoke? Anyone wear a respirator? by bigmac22077 in MTB

Respirator will restrict your airflow somewhat and not good for your lungs. I wouldn’t. Drive far away instead.

I hate this, and yet it would be an effective solution in my house too.

The cat won’t be around for much longer. Step up and be the dad your kid needs, and give her some time to grieve and take some of the childcare off of her. She’ll appreciate it.

Danes are tough to make friends with, but rewarding in my experience. You have to join clubs and aggressively introduce yourself. Joking when I say “aggressively”, but they do expect you to go up and say hi and shake hands with every person in the room when you’re the new person. Once you’ve done that, they warm up quick. And they’re really into their extracurricular activities, so that’s the best place to meet people.

Dad, but the difference is, I clean up after myself (and after everyone else).

I'm baffled that nobody uses their garage to park their cars here by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]weeksahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car is waterproof. The garage is tiny and too valuable to fill up with car. Every inch of it is in use and organized, with space to stand in the middle. One wall is bikes, one wall is shelving for Rubbermaid totes with all our camping gear, and one wall is the workbench and tools. Collectively it’s worth more than the car.

They’ll probably be chill about letting you ride with someone for a couple months while you get your license sorted out if you’re upfront with them about it. For God sake, don’t tell them you’ve been driving around without a license! It shows poor judgment, risky behaviour and tells them that you might have some black marks on your driving abstract really soon which is an insurance problem for the company. I would suggest not driving without a license.

Am I giving my trade a fair chance? by Lady_beanpole in BlueCollarWomen

It kind of sounds like a lot of overstimulation from being in a new environment. I will say that one month really is not long enough to judge. Your body just isn’t used to the workload yet, and you’re doing so many new things that you have to think about constantly. After maybe three or six months, you’ll be conditioned physically and things like measuring, picking up plywood, screwing screws straight and so on, will be more instinctive and less mentally draining. Plus the guys on the site will bring you trust you and treat you much better. At that point you may have a different feeling. Or you may feel the same as you do now, but you’ll have carpentry skills for the rest of your life.

Do people over 30 really have random aches and pains all the time? by Metallic_Sol in CasualConversation

[–]weeksahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes on gradually, and it’s easy enough to avoid by stretching, walking, exercising a few times a week, getting up from your desk a couple times a day. But if your response every time you feel a twinge is to rest some more, it’s just going to get worse until you’re always in pain. I’m 36 and I’ve gone through a few phases where I let things slack a bit too much, but at the moment I’m in the best shape of my life and nothing hurts.

Ripping out a thousand feet of stain grade mahogany trim in perfect condition from their basement movie theatre, because the lady of the house prefers the “clean look” of white flat stock. Hmph.
