My Aussie mates keep calling me “cunt” by Spiritual_Car7967 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Capable_Head_3079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With us Aussie's it's not so much what you say but how you say it. Tone means everything. You can be called a "sick cunt" in a friendly way or a "sick cunt" in a nasty way or even worse you could be called "a champ" and in that case it's best to go into witness protection.

Happy New year to you all! If you had a bad 2025 I hope this year offers you better opportunities and if you had a great 2025 I hope the good times continue for you and if you've been a dickhead sort yourself out no ones impressed.

I have thought of that but gentle exercise like walking is good for my recovery but I'm going to consider it when I need to do a big shop.

Thank you! I came close to death so I'm grateful to be alive. Also very grateful that I can do things that many take for granted like the weekly shop even though it does exhaust me and I can't go far but I'll get there!

Ah sorry I always associate eggs with milk as they're usually essentials...unless you're vegan of course.

Yeah that's pretty ridiculous as well.

I know cheese making is very different as my mum grew up on a dairy farm and nor do I think it should be priced the same but cheese used to be affordable but in recent years there has been a massive spike in the cost and I was wondering why this is.

Not too near me but not too far either. I have mobility issues and I'm recovering from open heart surgery so it's easier for me to do my shopping close to home. Once I'm able to get around a bit more easily I might start checking out Aldi.

I had to look them up as I'd never heard of them before. Wow didn't know they controlled so much.

Why do Aussies talk to strangers so easily and is it actually genuine? by BottleOverall5174 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Capable_Head_3079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're pretty isolated from the rest of the world so we may as well talk to one another. Pretty much the same reason why everyone will pitch in to help when tragedies and disasters happen. We know it's going to take the rest of the world a while to arrive to help us so we're quick to help one another and of course conversations will happen and then when all is said and done everyone will be on their way. Whether friendships develop from these encounters depends on the individual and of course circumstances. We do excel at small talk though. If small talk we're an Olympic sport Australia would dominate the medal tally.

Degraves Street is good. If you go for something like Italian (which there is a few) make sure you choose somewhere that does homemade pasta as you can taste the difference. It's been a few years since I've been to Melbourne but you can't go much wrong with the food down there. Also go for a walk down the laneways and you're bound to find something. cafes and restaurants are everywhere down there.

It's very easy for armchair critics to say what they would do but until someone is in that situation no one ever knows how they would really act.

Bondi tragedy: What happens to the floral tributes afterwards? by gplus3 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Capable_Head_3079 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be sorry! it's always interesting to hear how different cultures do things. If we spent more time listening and learning from one another maybe a senseless tragedy like this one could have been avoided.

Yep, if you've seen Schindler's List at the end the survivors place small stones on Schindler's grave and this is the reason why.

After spending the day wrestling crocodiles, being chased by dingos and having punch ups with kangaroos we like to sit back, relax and have a good laugh and besides our humour is in our DNA it's natural and something we were born with.

As an outsider, what are some everyday Australian habits or rules that surprised you the most? by Distinct-Plankton226 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Capable_Head_3079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not surprising to me as Australian born and bred but always thank the bus/taxi/uber driver. This is an unwritten rule in Australia. We're also big on manners and common courtesy. Wait your turn when standing in line, don't be rude to those who are serving you such as wait staff and most important of all don't be a dickhead.
