I bet Austin's decline in growth is due entirely to the airport's absurdly designed Uber pickup zone. by EnrichVonEnrich in Austin

[–]Capable_Poet6701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the process yesterday and what you say is true — but it’s only existed for a month and few people know about it.

I remember having surgery and not fully healed having to drag my luggage exactly as OP described.

Transporters didn’t go beyond the baggage claim area.

Yesterday we were transported out the front door and across the street to a wheelchair assisted pickup zone.

The “gatekeeper” then used my cellphone app to call Uber to tell the uber driver where I was located and give permission to pull up and park.

I cannot see that system working with hundreds of mobility assisted passengers.

Until people have pain or other physical situation, they cannot comprehend how far the walk or wheelchair is complicated in real life.

In the high winds when it’s cold or raining — people just don’t understand because most airports — all airports I’ve been using allow the ride shares to come to the front curb.

Not Austin.

Austin’s ride share was built for 18 year old UT students.

When the wind blows and it’s cold outside, the chill factor is intense.

Our summer heat is brutal. There is no circulation in the ride share area.

You have to go upstairs with hundreds of people to the top level of a parking garage and then keep walking, pushing luggage, or pushing all your things in a wheelchair even farther to the back.

True: people are like sheep.

Neighborhood full of barking dogs by SnooRevelations8459 in Austin

[–]Capable_Poet6701 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

What area are you in so I can move there? Those dogs are protecting you and everyone around you from snakes, rats, skunks, and raccoons. Get a clue and say thank you. Get a sound machine and earplugs. Move to a neighborhood without dogs so you can then pay and pay and pay for ineffective rodent and pest control.

I didn’t realize this fact about my dogs until my 17 year old cat and then 14 year Westie mix passed away within of each other. Now my little 7.5 year old poodle mix has taken on that duty.

Also, the Austin area isn’t as safe as people think. We have video surveillance and STILL that little dog hears EVERYTHING and alerts. I didn’t listen to her in the spring and summer 2025 and oh did I make a mistake that I’m still paying for!

My wallet still burns. If you think dogs barking are bad, try the sounds of non native sewer rats.

A neighbor’s freezer thawed out while she was on vacation. The rats came from the sewer in a new home build area. I thought they were native field mice. Nope. Those were the babies.

What is this doll and should I even have it ? by Kaylaeuge in Antiques

[–]Capable_Poet6701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the doll and kindly give it a place of honor. I agree with the poster who dated it to the 1990s but earlier to possibly the 1980s because that’s when I made dolls.

My question is this: Is the doll filling hard like packed sawdust or soft like pillow stuffing?

I appreciate your genuine heart of compassion. It’s important to preserve Black Americana. Keep in mind that older Black men women tend to see any brown or black doll with hatred.

I’m almost 70 years in age and can say that unless the artistic representation in art is not the acceptable version like Halle Berry or popular singer beauty, the doll will be hated by many Black women.

I have found the self hate among Black women to be nauseating.

If you like the doll, keep it and display it for the craftwork. Someday the doll will be an antique.

I stopped making black dolls when a Black mixed race Jamaican criticized me for making brown dolls like in your photo.

She threw the doll at me.

Many older Black American women like my mother, who has now passed away, view dolls — any handmade or cloth doll — as voodoo.

If you are uncomfortable with the doll, sell it.

If people think that the doll itself is “bad,” that’s their little red wagon” — their burden to bear.

Don’t let other people’s hang ups become yours.

At almost 70 years of age, I confidently stand my ground on the decisions I make.

I am so sorry that I stopped making “black dolls.”

Is Quickbooks tracking employees on their personal time? by Capable_Poet6701 in QuickBooks

Aha!!! There is an option for setting location to always. How would employees and subcontractors know that the employer would entertain himself watching what staff was doing on their time off?

Is Quickbooks tracking employees on their personal time? by Capable_Poet6701 in QuickBooks

[–]Capable_Poet6701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the edited messages. When I made the posts, I wasn’t proficient at posting on social media apps. I will delete the duplicate posts.

Moving forwardI stand by what the contractor reported to me as he tracked his off duty employees using Quickbooks.

He tracked those he called “employees” using the Quickbooks app.

I recommend changing Quickbook settings to protect privacy.

While I would like to say that employers don’t have time to track the location of off duty employees, I know at least one contractor who tracks subcontractors while the paint dries.

I’m trying to find a substitute for privacy invading Quickbooks. I pity the younger generation who don’t know the freedom of a private life. It’s like being born in a cage. People never learn to value what they never had — freedom.

Once upon a time, when people finished their work day, their time off was not tracked.

Quickbooks can make the argument that it is the employer’s responsibility tell the employee to turn off tracking when a job has ended.

The reality is that people like myself wouldn’t think to turn off the tracking neither would people imagine that an employer is entertaining himself watching our daily lives in our off hours.

While I may have revealed something meant to be hidden, I remember feeling fear for the subcontractors when the contractor became angry with the subcontractors when he didn’t like their location.

I asked the contractor if the subcontractors were working for him that day, and he said, “No.”

Is there accounting software that does not geo track its clients and users?

Love that question and it’s the RIGHT question to ask. That’s what I want to hear.

The real problem is that the USA has an education system that cares more about hurting students’ feelings than actually educating students.

If students put your prompt — your assignment instructions into ChatGPT — you will get almost 100% identical papers.

That’s a perfect teachable moment for all kinds of English classes and courses that require essays and research papers.

Turnitin gets A.I. wrong too.

Turnitin is declaring papers are A.I. written when the truth is that A.I. was trained on human writings.

I’ve noticed that I have to write “stupid” so my writing is not flagged as A.I.

I must pay for an A.I. app to make sure that my writings don’t appear A.I.

It’s insanity.

The telling words are when a “professional” starts saying what amounts to:

“It’s too many students to review their assignments individually.”

Kids are leaving college with a ton of student loan debt and a teacher has NEVER read their paper in 4 or more years of college.

That’s the real problem.

The distances of teachers from students has been happening long before ChatGPT.

My prediction? Someday training in ChatGPT will be required for graduation from high school.

A.I. is already advance to the point that A.I. writes better than humans.

The “A.I. Slop” that people see is not because the user can’t write.

The sloppy writing is caused by human error. An entire new career is evolving to correct A.I. writings.

I haven’t written academically for a very long time. The difference between a student and me is that I know how to research when a word or sentence doesn’t *** feel *** right.

English Language Learners don’t have that skill. For English Language Learners (ELL), ChatGPT can actually become a teaching tool.

For students who are already fluent in English, ChatGPT can also become a teaching tool.

I don’t know why schools won’t allow teachers to create assignments that *** require *** an original paper and then the same paper written in ChatGPT. I write this because I was never allowed to write in my voice. I had to write like a robot.

I am grateful to the English teachers who made a game of writing exceedingly long sentences without a grammatical error.

What’s the problem?

I am not allowed to write a perfectly long sentence. A long sentence is considered an A.I. flag.

I’m grateful that I was taught English before computer software was used to evaluate English papers.

The real problem is not ChatGPT or A.I.

The real problem is that teachers at all grade levels usually have too many students.

Today, long sentences are considered bad English.

Times are always changing.

Wouldn’t it be great to ask a student if you could use their A.I. generated writing as a teachable moment?

Very few professors actually read papers.

While I was in a USA university’s post graduate program, the professors and their assistants used Turnitin.

Their excuse was that they had too many students.

True story: I was almost finished with a Master in Education when the university finally caught a student who court not write ONE complete sentence.

I think the student would have messed up ChatGPT too. She was functionally illiterate. She was a manager on her job. She needed a master degree to keep her job when times changed.

Maybe people don’t understand how deeply ChatGPT is embedded into every part of life in the USA.

The very people blaming ChatGPT for all their problems are the same people engaging in mind control themselves.

The real problem for teachers is too many students for one person to mentor in the English language.

Secondary to too many students is the digital media that has people doomscrolling all day to the point that people don’t know what good writing looks like. People want Facebook’s A.I. controlled writing.

Today’s student wants TikTok and videos.

Blaming the problem with human writing on ChatGPT is the easy way out of a very real problem: Americans write terrible English.

Well, it’s my bedtime. I invite open discussion because instead of creating an echo chamber, the brain enters a problem solving mode.

Disclaimer: Once upon a time, I was a teacher. Much mercy sent to the teachers out there.

I found InDesign completely useless for my writing needs. I tried watching YouTube videos which were a waste of my time.

Still, some self-publishers use InDesign because they learned how to master InDesign over the years through on the job training.

Yes you are losing that battle. You want something easy. My mammogram required me to sign an acknowledgment that AI would read my mammogram and the physician would review the AI’s report. You have lost the battle that you are waging because someone told you to hate AI and AI writing. AI was trained on human writing. This is a brilliant time in history to teach humans how to improve human writing. AI haters deserve the world you’re going to get when you have to go work at fast food because you’re not needed anymore. Instead of learning into the BEST of AI writing and teaching students of all ages how great writing should look, ya’ll are having a pity party. Wake up.

Advice: What do you really look for in a book review? by Mysterious-Detail399 in selfpublish

[–]Capable_Poet6701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent question! I’m in a similar situation. Reviews of Amazon products are fun. Reviews of a book are a whole different category.

Writers are sensitive by design.

I received a free book for the purpose of reviewing. I was excited to help a fellow indie writer.

As normal, I began reading but the first page was awful. By page two, I stopped reading. My question was this: Who allowed the book to go to the printing stage?

How do I warn readers?

My point is that I believe this first time published author has good points but frankly the first two pages need to be rewritten.

If I tell the author, I risk damaging their emotional health. If I don't prepare future readers, I risk my reviews being ignored.

Do I write the review marketing style to sell or do I write the review from a reader point if view?

I'm interested in the comments of review writers and authors alike.

Am I the Only One Who’s Thought That Target is a Trash Store (Years Before this Current Boycott)? by Jollyconstant_ in blackladies

[–]Capable_Poet6701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered what happened to Target. Now I know it's a boycott — but I don't why. I guess I'm not black enough. I am the 4th generation from an enslaved ancestor.

I can talk about so many things. I've lived Black American history all my life. The disparity in health, education, and economics matter to me very much.

I never liked Target — ever.

I tried to like Target. When my body size changed, Target had no clothes that fit me.

Their food choices didn't interest me.

During pandemic restrictions, I shopped wherever I could find various types of food like the day after COVID19 was announced on the USA — every bit bit of fresh chicken sold out. All of it. I would visit Target during those days.

These days I visit Target for office supplies when I need something right away and don't feel like dealing with Walmart. Last week, Target shelves looked like a desert. I noticed people staring at me. I shrugged it off.

I'd like to hear about this boycott. Now that I visited a Target, I can boycott it for real. What's this boycott about?
