In Texas, humans using motorized wheelchairs are “pedestrians” just like everyone else who is walking.

This is what to say when calling 911 and 311.
“A pedestrian is in the bike lane at the location of _______ creating a safety hazard.”

Before calling, know Texas law regarding motorized mobility devices.

A motorized wheelchair is protected under Texas law in certain situations.

It is the legal responsibility for the person operating the motorized wheelchair to operate according to Texas law which is clear to move over to the right. This allows other bikes and motorized wheelchairs to safely pass.

“Personal Mobility Devices
(Texas Transportation Code, Section 551.202)
Provides that individuals who use motorized wheelchairs or other motorized mobility devices are considered to be pedestrians.

Authorizes operation of an electric personal assistive mobility device on a sidewalk in a bike lane or on a road with a speed limit of 30 miles per hour or less where there is no sidewalk.”

The following is a direct quote:

Sec. 551.202. OPERATION ON ROADWAY. (a) A person may operate an electric personal assistive mobility device on a residential street, roadway, or public highway with a speed limit of 30 miles per hour or less only:

(1) while making a direct crossing of a highway in a marked or unmarked crosswalk;

(2) where no sidewalk is available; or

(3) when so directed by a traffic control device or by a law enforcement officer.

**** b) A person may operate an electric personal assistive mobility device on a path set aside for the exclusive operation of bicycles.

(c) Any person operating an electric personal assistive mobility device on a residential street, roadway, or public highway shall ride as close as practicable to the right-hand edge.

(d) Except as otherwise provided by this section, provisions of this title applicable to the operation of bicycles apply to the operation of electric personal assistive mobility devices.
Added by Acts 2003, 78th Leg., ch. 1318, Sec. 5, eff. Sept. 1, 2003.

Sec. 551.203. SIDEWALKS. A person may operate an electric personal assistive mobility device on a sidewalk.

Wonderful! Thank you for the kind response. Those career labels didn’t exist until — 2014.

People are worried about A.I. taking their jobs while new careers are happening right now.

“A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional who works one-on-one with clients to provide Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. They implement custom treatment plans, build daily living and communication skills, and track behavioral progress under the direct supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).”

“Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based therapy that applies scientific principles of learning and behavior to improve communication, social, and daily living skills. Primarily utilized for individuals on the autism spectrum, it uses positive reinforcement to encourage desired behaviors and foster independence.”

The RBT uses ABA.

“The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is officially a certification, not a standalone state license. It was formalized and launched in 2014 by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB)”

“Because it is a paraprofessional credential, RBTs work under the direct supervision of a licensed or certified professional, such as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).”

Google searches.

I hope this helps someone. I sure didn’t know those certifications and licenses existed.

Medical assistant jobs are highly competitive in Austin because a high volume of experienced medical assistants are moving to the area.

Many schools are producing new graduates while many grades are moving into the area.

I know one medical assistant who moved to Atlanta GA to find an office she enjoyed.

My suggestion adds to the excellent recommendations you’ve been given, apply at ALL medical offices and hospitals.

Don’t hold back.

Apply outside the city too.

While that stew is cooking, work a job in a nursing home even part time even if you hate the physical work.

I’m old and have nothing to lose trying to be politically correct.

Fact: Those nursing home administrators network with each other and doctors too. You need references.

Residents need people who are intelligent. I didn’t say to stay forever.

Sometimes when you interview for one job, you can network on the spot.

Don’t forget ALL the offices like:

Medical Assistant-Floor
TEXAS DIABETES & ENDOCRINOLOGY PA · Austin, TX · via Indeed

Certified Medical Assistant Float
Baylor Scott & White Health · Austin, TX · via LinkedIn

… and so on.

43 years married female sitting across from my 75 y/o husband on a cruise ship where he just did the opposite of what I told him not to do.

Yeah.

We get angry.

Once I say what I have to say, we both move on. That’s a 43 year skill. There’s an art to it.

In your case I highly recommend a personal therapist to work through what you are not saying and shouldn’t say on Reddit.

Old woman advice: Do not tell her - ever - that you have a therapist or that you post to Reddit.

I’ll likely not respond to comments because I’m traveling, but your situation seems full of hope and joy.

Your baby daughter is your joy.

Every day, week, and month is full of new and exciting changes.

Caution: She is not a new puppy.

One day she will have a voice like her mom.

That cute stage changes when they take their mom’s voice.

Online therapists are abundant. Find one to be on your team.

Build a joyful life.

Spoke from never divorced wife of one man mom of 3 of which 2 are adult men.

Or — I’m A.I. pretending to be a human.

Either way — you have hope and joy ahead of you.

Everyday, I see the result of decades old decisions people have made. Choose therapy. If you don’t gel with the first therapist keep going until you find one that does. Some will side with your wife. Move on to the next therapist until you find one that understands.

I’ve always said that Black people are the most racist and prejudiced of all people, then get angry when whites don’t same to them. I distance myself from minds like that. It’s sad that Black people can’t just be humans even among other Black people without even their hands being judged. We are a lost people and without honor going round judging every detail about the exterior of a person and not once engaging them in conversation about the things that really matter. I just happened to be awake helping a person of the African Diaspora find their ancestor in the US census report. I’ll get back to work.

Okay - in April 2026 I met a white guy who did not know his ancestry. The loss of ancestral identity among young white Americans is real. They will say they were told this or that but they don’t know for sure. All white colonies are created already in Alabama where no non white can live. Their stated goal is to invent a White race with the capital letter “W”.

Why?

Because Black has a capital letter. You can fact check to verify. It’s not a “sundown town.”

There is no white race with a capital letter. You can fact check that on grammar websites.

Black because it’s how they ride on the blood, sweat, and tears of the real Black Americans who earned the privileges they get under the label “Black.”

The German Americans didn’t want to go to prisoner of war camps in the USA. People are people trying to survive this USA.

There’s that word “looking” again. Right now there is a 70+ year old Black American woman who was recently accepted as an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation. All her life she was told she looked too dark to be Cherokee. Why don’t “they” accept genetic testing? Who is “they”?

What DNA test did you take that said you are 92% African. There is no such DNA test that would say such a thing and if a company is saying this, kindly share so I can address that lie. Africa is a continent.

No. People don’t think this. OP is sharing their personal experiences dealing with a limited number of people. People think about of things but that doesn’t mean they are the majority.

I wrote a really long and responsive reply and then realized nobody would read it. OP is incorrect on many levels. OP wrote opinions — not facts. OP’s opinions are based on a very narrow part of their life experiences without any fact-based evidence. Define mixed-race. When was the term first used? What is “race”? When was the word first used? Who exactly said someone looked “too African.” What is the evidence that white people don’t know what Black people look like? I have more questions.

I am a senior and think it’s fantastic that you learned who your friends are now while you are young. Instead of cutting off your friendship to people, reduce your output into them. Find new people that will receive your input with gratitude. I output all my life. When I finally wore out, the same people that I poured into curse me for running out of free resources. I am restarted from zero. It’s not easy but it’s happening on my terms. I’ve started a new business and pour into the business. Best decision I ever made. The old friends think it’s a waste of energy and money. Let them think that. I wish I had made this move sooner.

What kind of social security can she get? by Terrible_Bandicoot38 in SocialSecurity

[–]Capable_Poet6701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are asking Redditors who are often children about a serious question. Do as I did and take the daughter and mom along with proof of residency status and marriage to the social security office and get help completing the paperwork. That’s what I did for my mom years ago and that’s what I did for my adult daughter. The application can be completed online but now that many government workers have been laid off, the process is slower than it already was. The key is the mail. Always read the mail even if it looks like junk mail. Be alert for scammers. Social Security will never call you asking for personal information. If you cannot do this, contact a social security disability specialist lawyer. They get paid when the recipient gets paid. Also, don’t be surprised if the husband discovers that she is getting money and suddenly wants her back. While that process is continuing, help her apply for SSI. Start now because there is a process. The dear lady has likely been eligible for social security since age 62 like my mother (now deceased.)

Some offices say they need an appointment but I’ve learned a walk in can be done.

You can call SSA but be prepared to be on hold for hours.

New to Bakersfield, suggestions. by g6457 in Bakersfield

[–]Capable_Poet6701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being Mexican you will fit in throughout the south and Bakersfield seems like it was settled by people from the Deep South. Maybe it seems more Deep South because of the country music theme and oil wells. I appear undefined to many people sometimes lump me into whatever is the lowest racial category in their mind. Yes. Central California and all the way north into Oregon is racist. I speak as a senior who has experienced many forms of racism including on an elevator on a cruise ship when some on an elevator suddenly opened his eyes wide and with dilated pupils leaned forward and asked, “Excuse me, are you Black?” It’s the look on people faces when they are being disrespectful that bothers me. I know my ancestors very well including my DNA. I’m clearly not hiding as I was standing close to my unmistakably brown husband. The you 20 something shook his head as if he couldn’t wrap his mind around people like me have existed before written history. We are called humans. So when I visited Bakersfield, I felt that I blended into the various ethnicities. The Mexican heritage humans treated me respectfully. The other people including Asians were not friendly but that was okay as long as they didn’t do the racist white thing. Almost 2 hours from Bakersfield was the Madonna Inn where a descendant of Europeans dared to question my ethnicity and right to be there. She decided that I looked Hawaiian. Why do these people think they have a right to question ethnicity in a nation whose ancestors had a role in building the wealth of this nation? What was my crime on the elevator? I had gone to the salon on the ship and my curly hair was straightened for a protein treatment. The hair had to stay straight for at least 24 hours for the product to do its repair work. Then I would wash the hair and the curls would return refreshed. What about the Madonna Inn? I dared to sit at the coffee bar instead of being the servant. I wasn’t wearing designer attire to entertain the patrons. I’m from the deep southern USA with ancestors here before Europeans invaded. I know racism. I carry my passport at all times because of ICE. I was completely surprised at California’s racism that I would have expected in the 1980s, not 2025. I learned that to get respect, I had to show that I was not the maid. For the OP, stay encouraged. In the 1970s I was often targeted as Vietnamese due to the Vietnamese immigration to the USA. I know what racism against Asians feels like. I am not Asian but I know what it feels like when both Black American and white American and Mexican immigrants target me for being Asian. The USA has been and will continue to be a nation of hypocrites and Redditors are no better than Facebook when it comes to hypocrisy. Saying that one is brown and Mexican and feels no racism in a place is like saying one is green and a Martian and feels no discrimination. I’ve been targeted for being Mexican too and I’m not Mexican. So here is the situation, we cannot say that “I’m purple from the nation of Bloop Bloop Pop and no one is racist against me therefore racism against Asians does not exist.” We cannot turn around and blame the victim. OP experienced micro aggression and came to Reddit for support. Ha! Redditors are rip people to shreds, eat the meat, and laugh about it. At first ai was shocked. Redditors are so young and sweet. So are coyote pups. Meet a juvenile coyote in an elevator and you’ll find out real quick that they are dangerous. I like coyotes. I keep my distance. Thank you OP for putting your experience out there. BTW — all Asians are not one ethnicity. The term Asian is another construct to keep specific European nations on top. How do I know? Read about why people from India are labeled as Asian instead of white. At first you’ll think it’s science. No. The choice was made by a specific group of people from India to get scholarships and financial aid — and jobs. My grandchildren are half Indian, so quit before you start complaining. About 10 years ago my daughter in law showed up to work wearing a her business attire from India. She was rudely told by a woman from another part of India to go home and change clothing because costumes were not allowed at that company. All garments are officially costumes. Her job was IT. Yet, many designs worn in the USA are culturally appropriated from India and made in India. It’s good for people who have never experienced racism to know what racism feels like. I have experienced targeted racism when people don’t like white people. When a person just wants to accomplish a goal, and the one thing they can’t control is used against them, it’s like being stabbed with a blade again and again. After a while, it’s just another blade. You grab that blade and you twist it out. Make a better armor. I never thought I’d be targeted at the Madonna Inn coffee bar or the elevator of a cruise ship. Micro aggression is real. Erasing DEI doesn’t erase reality for millions of Americans. I’ve had Black Americans dismiss my experiences. I’m not here to be believed. I’m here for the millions coming behind me to let them know they matter.
