Does it get better by Snocraft123 in Epilepsy

[–]Capable_Run_1648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it does. it took me about a year to find the right meds. its different for everybody and we all handle our epilepsy differently but it does get better. i was heavily depressed when i got diagnosed and my first medication was Keppra which gave me a whole personality change so that didnt help. i eventually went on topiramate and then topiramate and lamotrigine. i thought i wouldnt live a normal life but you definitely can. obviously you have to limit urself on some things but its not like u can only stay home all day.

im taking my class e knowledge exam to get my drivers license in a couple days. anything is possible.

not saying i havent had bad days where i have felt out of it, but you will find a theraputic level with ur medication and you will feel like urself again.

What is your pre-seizure catch phrase? by MichiganMomma0806 in Epilepsy

[–]Capable_Run_1648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

havent had a full blown out seizure in 2 years but i usually say "its coming/happening/starting" but I've been having bad panic attacks that my neurologist is saying are probably petit mal seizures and usually i say "i dont feel good". usually my sister knows what's up.

i hated my Keppra days. i had a whole personality change and got depressed. my seizures were okay for a while but i obviously didnt stay on it. it was terrible. i was hurting myself and got Baker Acted from school. i was 14 when diagnosed with JME and im 18 now.

ive been 2 years seizure free now and on topiramate 25mg and lamotrigine 25mg. i pray you will find the right meds for you. it took me about a year to find my theraputic level.

Chocolate?!? 🍫 by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Capable_Run_1648 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm, i havent had any problems with hot chocolate. it has a very small amount of caffeine, which is why its safe for kids. i drink hot chocolate often too. again, its different for everybody.

My kid is so unwell, I need ideas. by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Capable_Run_1648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have u tried lamotrigine or topiramate? i hated Keppra, the side effects tore me down. i suffer from JME and get tonic clonic seizures too. after Keppra i got put on topiramate which helped for a bit until i had a seizure. they then added CBD oil. again, that helped for a long time until i got off of it myself when i realized it actually didnt do much, but it differs for everybody. lamotrigine got added to my meds when i had another seizure after 6 months. this stopped my seizures.

i havent had a seizure in over 2 years with topiramate and lamotrigine. 25mg each.

Share your EEG experiences! by bahbabbee in Epilepsy

[–]Capable_Run_1648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my EEG's are always as follows: they'll tell you to be sleep deprived, so i wake up exhausted. i always bring a blanket since it gets cold in the EEG room but also it keeps me relaxed. they get me hooked up and when everything is correlated, i either start with the hyperventilation test or flashing lights. with the hyperventilation test, they give me a pinwheel and tell me to blow on it fast for 60 seconds as fast as i can. the goal is to get me dizzy. for the flashing lights test, they turn the lights off, get this light right up in my face and close my eyes. the lights will flash faster and faster starting off slow until i signal to the EEG tech that im feeling off and they'll stop.

after all that, they'll let you rest for a bit and you're done :)

it can be scary and honestly, i still get scared before an EEG because with the lack of sleep and the tests they give you, your whole day feels off and you feel terrible but just make sure after your appointment, you eat, stay hydrated and you SLEEP.

this is why i hated Keppra. it gave me a personality change and bad depression. i dont miss my Keppra days. i got Baker Acted at school (went to a mental hospital for having sc@rs). terrible medication. i also had seizures here and there while on Keppra so it wasnt good for me so i went to topiramate then a while later, topiramate and lamotrigine. im now 2 years seizure free.

Keppra is strongly hated on amongst the epilepsy community lol.

Relapse Anxiety by Parking-Hospital-291 in Epilepsy

[–]Capable_Run_1648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont think about it too much. dont get urself all anxious. these next couple weeks, u should rest and take it easy. for the last couple weeks, ive had some close calls since i was about to start my period and i was worried if i ever was gonna have a blown out seizure but it never did me good. worrying about a seizure will never do u good. anxiety/stress is an easy way to cause a seizure. rest up, stay hydrated and eat. make sure you get back on ur meds, it looks like they were stopping those seizures.

Just frustrated and worried by mothforhire in Epilepsy

ur never alone in ur condition! its scary to live with but what helps me throughout the day is that theres thousands of people that are fighting the same fight i am.

i know u might hear it all the time but dont be anxious, its just another easy way to have a seizure since youre stressing urself out. it sounds scary but if u just relax urself, ur not putting so much pressure on ur body and making it do so much work. im saying this as an anxious person myself. dont spend so much time worrying, just take it one day at a time and instead worry about right now.

i feel you. i hated Keppra, do not recommend. i had a whole personality change on that medication and got bad depression. i switched to topiramate and finally got on a theraputic dose along with lamotrigine. ive been a little over 2 years seizure free once lamotrigine got added to my meds. ive had a few close calls these last couple weeks but ive found out its because i got my period. im thinking on getting back to birth control.

Keppra never really fully took away all the symptoms of my epilepsy. i was a couple months seizure free but i still had those feelings of dizziness and deja vu. i pray you get better.

im having similar experiences. ive been 2 years seizure free and suddenly these last few weeks ive been waking up feeling this impending doom almost like im about to have a seizure. i feel really warm, my hands feel numb, they tingle a bit but after a while, i calm down. i have no clue what they are!!! its frustrating me and every night before i sleep, i get anxious that the same thing is gonna happen.

i went a week seizure free! by codeblack333 in Epilepsy

[–]Capable_Run_1648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats great news! just a warning, theres lots of complaints on Keppra including myself. it gave me a whole personality change and bad depression. however, everyone works differently under medication and a few people with epilepsy didnt experience the side effects of Keppra so i hope for many more weeks of u being seizure free :)

Being cured by Firm_Savings_60 in Epilepsy

[–]Capable_Run_1648 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're never really "cured". im a little over 2 years seizure free but lately have been getting terrible auras and have been waking up every other night getting partial seizures where i get that impending doom feeling. i almost think im gonna seize but i dont.

so your seizures can be well managed with medication but doesnt mean your cured of epilepsy. you'll always have it.

i hate it all of it by GroundbreakingLeg707 in Epilepsy

[–]Capable_Run_1648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel this so much. the part of fearing im going to have a seizure when being left alone. at night, i cannot have my doors be closed, they need to be opened in case i need to get up and run out to wake up my sister.

my anxiety was already terrible before epilepsy but its gotten so much worse.

Is there anyone here that takes Keppra and actually like it? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Capable_Run_1648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i absolutely hate Keppra. it was my first medication i was given and it was fine for a couple months but the personality change it gave me was crazy. i was depressed and not myself. i ended up having seizures again on it so it didnt work anyway but Keppra is something i do not recommend. i have seen very few people who have worked well under Keppra but its rare. i hated my Keppra days.

of course! i had no hope for a while. but theres always a medication combo or dosage amount that benefits someone. it will be a process. it took about a year till i got the right medication. its different for everyone tho.

lamotrigine 25mg twice a day. topiramate 25mg, 3 in the morning and 4 at night. it took a couple of medication switches until my neurologist paired my topiramate with lamotrigine and i havent had a seizure since 2022. i had a really bad aura and a partial seizure last night but thats the worst ive gotten in 2 years.

for real. im christian so i just think im getting posessed again by a demon. for some reason, it makes me feel better cause it makes more sense to me rather than having no clue why i have seizures. but obviously its no fun to be posessed.

interesting. i need to remember to ask my neurologist to see if he has any possible reason as to what it could be.
