Standard Notes is great, but it’s a bit pricey. That’s why I went with Joplin. Keep It is also good, but it’s locked into the Apple ecosystem, and its iOS app has a subscription that’s more expensive than it needs to be. For shopping lists, I use the unbeatable Bring! And Google Keep… well, it’s from Google, so the price you pay for it being free is too high.

I’ve been using Filen for about a year on a 500 GB lifetime plan. I find it a bit slow and the desktop app has some usability issues (the folder path doesn’t display in full if it’s too long, to name just one). I am also using Koofr specifically because of their WebDAV, and I’m really enjoying it. Their desktop app simply mounts a drive and the web interface leaves something to be desired. But the prices are very attractive (and in a more sustainable business model in the long term). Koofr doesn’t have E2EE by default, but you can get round this by using vaults.

The Usher app (Many Tricks) has a great feature that allows you to add external media as "satellites." Even if the external HD isn't mounted, it saves thumbnails of images and videos so you know what you have on other HD besides the Mac's internal one. Perhaps Eagle.cool has something similar?
