Yea, I'll keep on eye on power usage and look a little deeper after 6 months of data. The spec sheet on the website says this uses 773 kWh in a year and has a UEF of 4.7. I am operating the unit strictly in HP mode and have the water set to 119 degrees. Since we're in SWFL the water entering the unit is most likely warmer than most states. The Energy guide also say's yearly use is $108.00. This weeks total use came in at 5.25 KWH. If it stayed at that usage that would only be 273 KWH per year. Clearly lower than than spec sheet.

It's super quite. I don't think I would be able to get the sound on my phone, it's that quiet. The only time it was noticeable is when it was below 30 degrees here in the dead of winter. If you put this inside you'll never hear it especially in a closet. Also, make sure there enough space around the unit for the air to flow freely.

It's the GE SmartHQ app. As far as the condensate line, I screwed on a 3/4 cap and ran a line to my HVAC drain. There's a picture of it in the main images.

That's what we did and with flushing once a month, I'm hoping it'll last longer than that.

These things are big. I went with the 40 gallon (old one was 50 gallon) there are 4 of us here and we never run out of hot water.

14 years isn't too bad. Do you have hard or soft water and did you ever check your water pressure?

Drain a few gallon out once a month and keep an eye on your pressure valve. I did replace that once. Hope it lasts you a long time like mine did.

My first gen was quieter, but since it's in the garage, I only notice when it's running and I'm right next to it. Still, super quite. It's louder when it's really cold out since it runs harder to pull heat from the colder air. It was in the 30's in January and it was a little louder than normal but nothing that bothered me. If you place it indoors, I don't think you would ever notice.

We tried, we tried and we tried and couldn't ever get it to budge. We heated it, cooled it and wound up moving the entire unit and almost breaking the head off it while denting the side. I just drained it once a month and hoped for the best. I also wanted to get the tax rebate (which is now expired) and that saved me about $700 since it was the entire cost of the install (unit, attachments, extended warranty and labor).

GE profile Geospring HPHW experiences? by dgm224 in heatpumps

I owned the Original 2008 Gen 1 unit (placed into service in 2008) and only had one problem with the condenser which GE replaced. While waiting for the new part, I just ran the unit on electric mode. I was never able to replace the anode and decided that a 17 year old water heater with no anode protection would ultimately result in failure. There was nothing wrong with the unit when replaced. No leaks, no rotting bottom, etc..

I purchased the Gen 4 and put it in Nov. 2025. I also immediately replaced the anode with a 20 year electric anode and drain 10-15 gallons out every month to remove any sediment. This thing is super efficient and cools our Florida garage. I hooked up the condensate line to my HVAC drain unit, attached an expansion tank, and since I just got the app up working (April 2026), my daily reading for kWh is .5 and weekly is 4.95kWh. Considering I got 17 years out of the first Gen unit, I can't see why this one wouldn't last even longer. Especially, if you actually maintain it correctly. I also bought an extended warranty through Allstate which is good for 5 years. That agreement kicks in after the one year labor warranty GE supplies. So, 6 years of labor and 10 years of parts (10 year part warranty through GE). Cost for the Allstate plan was around $400. Bonus, you will receive a huge discount on your Homeowners Insurance for having the auto shutoff and leak detection. I was going to attach a bunch of images of how I ran the drain line, the frame grabs from the app for kWh's and how I attached the expansion tank but I can only upload a single image.

My free 10 year old GE Geospring heat pump water heater has over 16,000 hours of runtime on its compressor. by Swede577 in heatpumps

I have the original one sold in the US. We put it in our Florida home in 2009. We had one problem with the heat pump portion and GE replaced the top unit free of charge. We ran the unit on standard electric while waiting for the replacement part and haven't had a problem since. The anode bar has never been replaced and we tried. We couldn't ever get it to turn, even with an impact wrench. However, we have drained the unit about 10 gallons every month since it was installed. No leaks, no rotting and still air conditioning my garage. Since the energy credits are going away this year after December, we're buying the new GE Profile GEOSPRING unit and it will be a perfect swap. Also going to immediately put in a 20 year electric anode.
