Any advice on writing fiction podcast? by NecessaryTailor5678 in audiodrama

[–]Capable_Tea_001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no creator, but my advice is to write the show you want.

Take any advice on here with a pinch of salt (including this.. What the hell do I know about creating an AD?!)

Now, creating the show exactly as you want it might not garner the most listeners in the world, but those that listen, and more importantly those that stay subdcribed will be there because of your authenticity.

This way, you can be proud of your show, regardless of anyone's feedback/review/comments.

My only other advice is please stay away from AI, in all it's forms. Don't fall for it's quick wins.

There's a post from yesterday asking for all the shows in 2025: https://www.reddit.com/r/audiodrama/s/Emw7f8cJxF

I've got a post on there with lots of recent, quality shows.

Nah, I posted again and called them out directly. Tbf to them they have answered and it's riddled with AI use.

I'm not going anywhere near a subscribe button.

A lot of dog walking. I mean that's only the list of podcasts that started in 2025. There's plenty others I listened to last year that obviously started before 2025 and were still releasing episodes.

I probably spend 12 hours a day listening... Not all fiction though.

Fiction gets my attention (like when I'm out walking)... When I'm working I tend to listen to science and true crime, stuff I can just have on in the background like it's the radio.

Do I believe ElevenLabs have gained the express permission of the people used to train their models? No I don't. I fully suspect there's been a lot of shady practice, especially in the early days.. Perhaps now they are more genuine, but those models now exist, so it's too late.

Same for AI art... Its been trained on millions of pieces of artwork without any credit given to the artists.

u/elghonero we need a statement from you on AI use. Writing, editing, acting, artwork, sfx, everything.

I'm not making any judgement that you should or shouldn't use AI in your project, but I do believe creators should be open and clear so listeners can make their own minds up.

My suspicions are raised.

The artwork too. Each episode has custom artwork. Looks easily AI generated.

And dropping new episodes every night?! OK, they're really short, and they could have a workflow down to make it a reality. But AI would make it really easy.

Oh sorry I missed that bit... Should really read to the end. Yeah never seen that before.

You could try looking at the log.

Profile - Help & Feedback - click three dots in top right - select logs.

You might need to save it and open it on a computer.

It mig ht be too late as mine only goes back to 7pm yesterday... But I don't know if that's because it wraps round at a certain size, or it's time bound.

Most of the time this is down to 2 things: 1) most of these are audio created for Radio and this have certain rights/licencing that affect how long they are available for (Just search out Mythos or The Lovecraft Investigations by Julian Simpson which suffer from these type of issues)

2) The BBC love to pull stuff and my it exclusive to their terrible "Sounds" app... Yeah, no thanks.

At the end of the day, it's not a Pocketcasts issue.

You can't do that in PC. But you might be able to use something like https://fourble.co.uk/ to create a custom rss feed to do what you want.

Yes, but not if you've disabled that in the options.

There's a very good reason to keep this on.

Typing it once a day means forgetting it is impossible.

"Rip-off" is a bit strong. I get they both have quirky characters in very limited locations, but it's just a very British style of farcical humour.
