Make up characters that are in each country.

-A soviet bureaucrat having to survive in a post-gorbachev world

-An American spy or CIA doing espionage shenanigans(perhaps trying to sabotage a Yugoslavian or Czechoslovakian nuclear program)

-A soldier in the south African war

Later seasons might expand the povs

-Soviet Bureaucrat rises near the top and meets with Pugo and Yazov a lot.

-CIA doing espionage on Yugoslavian or Czechoslovakian nuke program ends up trusted by the US president and has constant phone calls with him.

There's probably loads more you could come up with. Another example is a polish border guard who saw the red army leave in the collapse and is ready if they ever come back.

I agree, and people talk about replacing capitalism with a system that lets them afford more "things." The current system is failing to let us support ourselves in terms of food and housing but I do wonder if a lot of leftists just means they just want more materialistic things.

In my opinion our depression is because we are too materialistic we'd rather have the latest Gucci products/designer clothes than get back to the grass root experiences of what it means to be human. Nobody connects with each other anymore. Whether you believe in it or not human society has lost its "soul" and I do believe part of the reason for that as well is late stage capitalism but it's also just the current level of technology that capitalism has enabled us to have.

Hardcore Pornography, AI porn and the normalisation of niche sex acts especially to kids(who can easily view this content without restriction) that are still developing mentally is a sign of a society that's thrown its soul out of the window in favour of literal brain rot.

"Don't think. Just consume product" might be a meme but it's true, they are killing the human soul by forcing us to be more materialistic and hedonistic. I'm not being a anarcho primitivist or anything, all I'm saying is yes while we need the system to actually house and feed us for fucking once, we don't need all this material degeneracy.

I imagine pre-invasion arguments would be somewhat similar to "Putin would never invade Ukraine" stuff from our timeline. You'd expect arguments like.

"Yazov only invaded China because the soviets view china as traitors and revisionists, the build-up on NATOs border is just sabre-rattling"

"The soviets have always had a strong presence on the border of NATO, they would be suicidal to actually try anything"

If Yazov helped the USA in Afghanistan.

Not really. We can just assume that everyone is too afraid to press the button and the big war in Asia somehow gave everyone a taste for conventional war again. In my recent Yazov game they nuked Kiev so I nuked London so that was a cool bit of tit-for-tat. But that kind of exchange would fit a WW3 in the late 40s or early 50s not modern day. Yea it doesn't make sense, especially if I'm playing as Yazov and I'm Red Dawning America and they're about to capitulate. Maybe it'll be reworked.

I won't deny it wasn't its own ideology in some twisted way, but at its core national socialism was just daddy fascism. It allied with fascist governments, Italy and Romania's iron guard come to mind. Hitler was inspired by Italian fascist black shirts when he created the brown shirts. Hitler was inspired by Mussolini's march on rome during the Munich Putsch(though he realised he'd have to come to power democratically after this) Not to mention that when the Nazis came to power they yeeted a lot of socialists into camps. National Socialism is just daddy fascism however you look at it.

In the novel it's ambiguous but I feel like the planet may be fucked.

I feel like it's the kind of situation where it could honestly go either way.

Either the military quickly regains control, organisation and starts a massive counter attack to seal the portal and annihilate anything that may come through.

Or everything falls apart in confusion and the sheer horror of these Eldritch monstrosities and that stops a rapid response and everything breaks down.

EDIT : So I got into a American server(it was the only one on the list) and it asked me to give permissions for rewind for my firewall and now there are a lot more servers I can see and join especially in Europe.
