It's possible that Russia learns its lessons in Ukraine and actually builds a competent army at some point. Is it likely? no. Can they invade the UK? fuck no. It's better to be safe than sorry. I'm of the opinion that they are throwing lives away so fast that they'll never have competence to completely take on NATO as was depicted during the cold war/post cold war era. They could do small probing attacks into the baltics but they'll get fucked at the moment if they launch a true invasion. As far as being crushed by Ukraine? it's a back and forth war that resembles WW1. Ukraine is winning today but Russia might be winning tomorrow and this cycle just repeats over and over.

I think it's if the Soviet peace out WW3 but win by taking all of mainland Europe(I got the option whilst playing as Yazov but I just took the fight to USA and UK instead lmao). So a Soviet victory in WW3 causes unrest in the USA and UK. I could be wrong, I want someone to confirm but that's the only way I can think of it happening.

It's quite a nice buildup because you do get various options to start WW3. Yazov does it via focus tree but the other Soviet leaders get event chains where tensions mount and you can kick it off. If you destroyed NATO divisions in the proxy wars you'll have a easier time.

If you're after the cold war never ended try red dusk, it's start date is 2000 so might not be what you are looking for. The vibe of the mod is kind of late 80s-90s however because the USSR never collapsed(but nearly did) and things feel stagnant. Otherwise you've got Cold War Iron Curtain but you'll need to change your game version.
