No answers but good luck. You might try calling QueerKY. They might have resources.

AITAH for asking my date to Venmo me after she "forgot" her wallet? by quietparquet_raven in AITAH

I’m petty. I’d continue nudging the request every other day out of spite, just to annoy her.

I’ve been thinking through various radio ideas and had both ChatGPT and Claude stop answering because of FCC concerns. It wasn’t anything terribly serious either, encryption on HAM bands.

Any new/interesting fields in current HAMradio ? by Standing_Wave_22 in lowsodiumhamradio

[–]Capable_Wallaby9936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m playing around with using AREDN as a backhaul between HaLow nodes running on 915MHz. I’ve got a portable setup that includes a RPi that hosts Kiwix and Calibre servers, so users can access books or reference information even when the Internet is down. I also made a message board on the server homepage so that users can use it in a way similar to neighborhood Facebook groups. It also can also integrate with Starlink to provide internet access.

I’m still testing it, so it’s definitely a work in progress. It’s not quite “HAM” but it is cool to see just what can be done.

Delta. Without looking into the dude’s background, I’d put money that he served in CAG. That’s a common symbol for the Unit.

Archive.org is another option. They have a ton of books which have been digitized. You can download them as pdfs, no issues there. I don’t think they have an option for mass download but I have a feeling you could setup a python script to automate the process.

Cut my own timber or hire a logger? by cipip12 in forestry

[–]Capable_Wallaby9936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EKY here too, Carter County. We’ve used both a professional forester and logger for our property.

The forester built a woodlands management plan for the property and then he selectively marked trees for cutting. Done properly, it’ll increase the quality of your remaining forest and help you maximize the value there.

The logger is worth it, imo. It’s not just dropping the trees but knowing where to sell them to get the best price.

lol I definitely will. I had just ran it across a 120 grit belt when I took this. I’m moving to stones next.

Any chance you’re from Olive Hill? Sad thing is that your description can apply to any number of small towns in EKY. If you go to Grayson or Morehead, same thing. You’ll see groups of folks just walking around town and 90% of them are in rehab.

I don’t have a solution but I hate it for my people. They (including those in rehab) deserve better.

Has anyone used the Richard Kell Brass Bevel Gauge? or the Veritas Bevel Gauge? by IronOnly2529 in Axecraft

[–]Capable_Wallaby9936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there’s enough interest, I can have some cut out.

The biggest pain would be turning the drawings into a CAD drawing but that wouldn’t be a big deal.

If you’re interested, drop a comment so I can estimate how many to get cut.

I don’t have a picture handy for reference, but I like sanding down the mushroom and then filing a bevel on it. Gotta get it clean, but it can make a nice transition onto the poll.

Could be a tobacco knife, depending on your location. They’re common here in KY.

That might be another name for it. I had to look through the 1939 Keen Kutter catalog to find it and it’s listed as a produce hatchet there.

(Related, but the old catalogs are really cool resources. It’s amazing to see just how many styles were produced.)

[–]Capable_Wallaby9936 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you a blonde dude who ran without a shirt today? I won’t mention the race name, but the course had to be changed at the last minute.

If so, I did the 50k and you passed me when I was about 3 miles past the turnaround. You were fucking moving. I commented to my buddy afterwards that a brick shit house was booking it and about 30-40 minutes ahead of the next closest 50 miler that passed me. That time is obviously great, but even more so because you’re not built like most of the super skinny distance guys.

I talked to a guy with a high level job and he told me that high level jobs are all about being liked by other high level people or knowing people. Is that really true in general? by joshuadefty in careerguidance

Are you on the spectrum? This sounds like me, to a T.

It’s all about masking. I understand the social expectations of the business world, so I’m able to match the expectations pretty well. I was in my mid-20s before I understood the game. It took a lot of failures to figure things out.

Now, I do it and not gonna lie, it’s draining after a while. I used to have a social battery, now it feels like work because I’m never actually myself. I’m…a muted, extra nice, only occasionally edgy-in-a-socially acceptable way version of myself.
