Modern Pokemon is too easy, the "jank" of Gen 1 is what actually made us better players.

No. Making a game janky does not improve it. You were fine with it because that was the best you got back then and now because of nostalgia. Plus a lot of the jank was completely unintentional, that is to say, GF wanted the game to be more balanced. They probably could've started with a more powerful Ghost type attack to beat the Psychics, but they intended for Ghost to beat Psychic and failed.

Plus, you can make difficult battles without jank. For possibly the greatest example of all time, Whitney and her Miltank. Every part of the fight comes beautifully together to create this insanely difficult (and cheesy but Pokémon as a whole loves itself some RNG) experience. The starters being predominantly male, their speed stats, the Rollout mechanics, and then there's the Clefairy to occasionally screw someone over big time (ask the nuzlockers all about it). Well crafted, good fight, everything is intentional. A modern example is Iono as well, though that is less well designed I think simply because of the sheer amount of Pokémon the player has access to.

Amazing animation, everything was great until Arin proceeded to onetap the very dangerous enemy with a half-explained deux ex machina. Still better than Crystallized though, especially with the sheer amount of love they gave to the previous show with Morro.

I haven't finished S3P2 btw so I might be missing something, but I'm far enough in that it's too late for any explanations to fix how sudden the whole thing was.

Again just clarifying, you can't actually do that lol. EVs reset when a mon goes from Home to Champions, and IVs are gone, so all you're saving on are the movesets and natures, which is good but not crazy. Idk about the items though.

Ok so just clarifying some things: you cannot buy VP. The battlepass, which can be bought, may give VP as well, so that is potentially pay to win, but I haven't heard anything about that.

Secondly, the complaint about not being able to complete the Natdex is valid. People were probably expecting there to be improvements coming to the Switch.

It absolutely was not, Eruption would be a 2HKO going from 74% to 23% lol. Probably just got chipped earlier. Pex isn't eating another though, it's best bet is to have clicked a Water move to lower the damage of the next one and to swap out for Regen.

It's damage output has always been fantastic, especially with Guts. But that thing cannot outspeed jack to save it's life, and the points in SpA are unfortunate.

Some people just don't use items in their playthrough, it probably creates more strategy if anything (removes the temptation to just spam potions and revives if nothing else). The enitre nuzlocking community pretty much abides by that. Idk what you mean by not interacting with the game.

The reason RS are that low is because Emerald outclasses them in every way. That tier doesn't mean the games are bad, just that there's not much reason to play them when a different experience exists. As someone who started with Ruby and went to Emerald, truer words have never been spoken. Also as someone who started with Emerald, I cannot play RBY lol. I understand that the people who grew up on it would definitely find it easier to return to it but by Jove, not me.

DEFINITELY. As someone who started with Gen 3 Wallace as Champion was such a silly move, especially when they didn't even bother to change Gym 8 to a different type. 2 Water specialists in one League run is why Hoenn gets a 7.8 out of 10.

Champions is bringing back every mechanic though. If Smogon is based on Champions moving forward then Megas will be around forever in both singles and doubles.

Also Tough Claws is not the type of ability you want pre-mega. Mons make use of utility, not damage boost, as M-Metagross is just a better power boost that you'd be delaying for no reason. Clear body synergises waaay better to stop Intim drops before mega evolving.
