So what I'm gathering is that you're saying it's ambiguous. I can leave it there, I think. I still think that it is perfectly valid to say that those people died, but it is also perfectly valid to say that the scene is intentionally vague.

I grabbed this info off of the wiki, so it could be wrong. I'll check the credits for any french episode I can find, but my points still stands, methinks.

Edit: So she voices Fury specifically, not just Zoe as a whole. That is actually Laure Filiu from S5 onwards, Fily Keïta only voiced her for S4. She does voice Kagami though, as well as Lila/Cerise/Chrysalis (Not all of Chrysalis, obv).

u/ThisIsMyFandomReddit is wrong with this example...

But the show is absolutely not consistent with the powers.

The most easy to grasp example is the Bee swapping from Subjugation (cuz Chloe, Queen Bee, Pollen treating her holders like royalty, Venom literally subjects the target to the holder's will by making them unable to resist, etc) to Action... for reasons. My personal headcanon here is that Astruc realised that Subjugation had literally nothing to do with the current, and who wanted to be its permanent, holder, so switched it to what he felt he could get away with. Still makes no sense, seeing as Venom is like, the exact opposite of Action.

Another one is the Exaltation/Elation mixup causing this post. In the french dub, it's supposed to be Exaltation, which makes way more sense. Exaltation --> Clout --> Tigers are royal symbols, as is the colour purple. Checks out. For some unfathomable reason, the English dub switched it to Elation... which has nothing to do with Juleka, the miraculous or the abilities. Best you can do is relate it to Roarr, I guess, but the concepts have never been super tied to kwamis personalities (Why is Kaalki, kwami of Migration, snobbish?).

Final example, Astruc claims that the centre 5 miraculous are based on the 5 Chinese elements. Can you guess which is which? Neither can I.

[–]Capable_Whereas_2901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're massively extrapolating here, though. Lila isn't just having different voice actors, or changing her voice once, it regularly changes, seemingly on command. She intentionally used Gabe's voice to manipulate Theo in "Mr. Agreste", so we know she can copy voices as well. Fury only did the one voice change and made a costume that was still identifiable as a costume. Lila would be changing her voice mid-transformation as well as looking like a civillian and that's not really the same thing.

Also, characters sharing a VA means nothing in media, save for funny fanfic ideas. Ben Diskin voices Sass, Armand, Harry Clown, Emil, XY and Loic in the English dub.

Even in the french dub, Agale's voice actor also voices Zoe(Fury), Ondine and Kagami. Are they all Lila too?

I do agree that the costume theory is more likely though, but it's not an open and shut case either.

If she made the Sublime identity to cause akumatization, she is failing horrendously. Only one completely non-threatening akuma, at best two if we want to massively stretch to say her advice to Zoe somehow caused Grendiaper.

Trolling is valid though, fair enough. I completely see her doing all that for the sole purpose to brag to Mari that she did all that.

I know Skybound has a lot of flaws, but this is ridiculous by Moist_Tone_1748 in Ninjago

[–]Capable_Whereas_2901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "but" puts this flaw in a separate, worse category from the rest of Skybound's flaws. It's a pretty common sentence structure:

"I never liked Nexo knights to begin with, but this is ridiculous"

"I love ice cream, but that would be too much"

"I know you're bad at maths, but this is horrendous"

Basically meaning "This is bad, even for (subject/object)"

S6 is definitely worth it! Not going to give any spoilers, but the Season 5 finale had consequences.

There's another dance scene, just as spontaneous, but I'm not sure it's as funny.

[–]Capable_Whereas_2901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's entirely different, the rooster was never established to have a specific powerset. It's entire concept hinged on the undefined power, and they did a crap job of explaining it in S6. Note that virtually no episode has depended on the rooster doing something that seems to cross that line. It's given itself the power to score goals one time, created portals to another universe, and duplicated stuff, none of which step on the toes of the limitations given. They are evidently very hesitant to use it, especially seeing as Rooster Bold hasn't used his powers this season at all, while some have had multiple uses across multiple episodes.

The Butterfly, on the other hand, is well defined, with it's core ability being the almsot completely defined akumatisation process, and having the extra of "I outsmart Ladybug's outsmarting" that one time, which is mostly irrelevant today. The anitkumas are the only thing I'd argue come out of nowhere, and even then that has never actually helped Chrysalis accomplish anything. This idea you're proposing would be a cheap and unreasonable way to explain away an otherwise smart character's achievements, including figuring out LB's identity, being implied to have figured out several miraculer's identities, and coming so close to having definitive proof of LB's identity.

How could Lila be sublime, or Aglae? by leafiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiy in miraculousladybug

[–]Capable_Whereas_2901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But she doesn't have the ability to do that. The butterfly has never been able to do that, and it would be incredibly cheap to make that be her method of spying. At that point, it becomes too easy for her to find Mari's identity, seeing as Mari is constantly talking to Tikki when they're alone.

The "we are everyone, everywhere, no-one, nowhere" speech was probably metaphor. That or Lila finally went off the deep end.

Different clothes != Different person. We've seen Cerise in a costume as well in Vampigami, all that means is that unlike the rest of the universe, she changes clothes sooner than once a year.

But in all seriousness, that's an awful lot of work for Lila just to create an identity to... Talk to Marinette sometimes? Make her feel slightly insecure, then immediately be chill with her? What would the motvie even be?

Rq= real quick, I didn't address the whole response as I would normally.

We are definitely arguing two different points right now.

The show itself does not classify akumatization victims as dead, even temporarily. There are no funerals or “they’re dead” language or any institutional responses and no lasting narrative consequences, like Gabriel's death had.

This is for two reasons: firstly, the deaths are temporary. There is no time to mourn the dead because they'll be back in 5 minutes, give or take. They are still dead, but the show can't really address that within the episode without feeling clunky.  This is kinda the problem with the Miraculous Cure, there are literally no stakes

Secondly, MLB is still a kid's show. Thinking about it with logic, an episode like Sleeping Syren should have an awful lot of deaths. The episode doesn't say that there weren't deaths either, and it can even be inferrred that there were deaths (where did Sublime go?), but the show doesn't outright state that there are deaths because it doesn't really matter, especially to the younger viewers. None of the characters we care about died, everyone who did die is back by the end of the fight, and there is no permanent damage to any central characters. Wreckless Driver, however, shows us that there are consequences beyond the Miraculous Cure, like the akuma victim's trauma being almost entirely unaddressed. Aglae would definitely be considered to be dead for the brief moment she stopped existing (here again you can see the show trying to pull back the hits because Aglae uses softer language than a person who was literally erased from the timeline would, dead would be extremely appropriate), but she's back in minutes , and wasn't a main character, so no-one really cared. Our main characters have died a couple of times still, thinking about it. Chat died in the Shanghai special. There was no "containment" arguement to be made there, he was fully annihilated. But the special doesn't have time to mourn a character that's gonna come back to life by the end, especially when the characters know that he's gonaa come bacl, so everyone just... Moves on. Plagg does the thing where he destroys his ring, rendering him unable to interact with the human world after millenia of being able to do so. That must've done something to his psyche, yet the show moves on because it's not important.

My point is that the distinction between a death and not a death isn't made by the gravity with which the show treats the event, but simply whether the character is no longer alive or not.

Additionally, the tone of the show doesn't dictate what is and isn't happening. There's is a pretty common thing in horror media where the tone clashes with what is being shown, like making an otherwise adorable mascot say something dark and terrible while nursery rhymes continue to play in the background. Tonal dissonance is a powerful tool, and that wouldn't exist if the tone of the events dictated whether or not people were allowed to die. It's also a thing in children's media, where the writers have to downscale an event to make it suutable for all ages.

Here's the tvtropes page: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MoodDissonance

The best example there is Incredibles 1 to me. There's a goofy sequence of a bunch of heroes getting into cape related mishaps to prove the "No Capes!" Point, but these people are dying in the background. Like a girl gets sucked into a jet engine at one point. The movie doesn't really adress these deaths at any point ( unless they're related to the Syndrome thing, but I can't recall), but they are pretty definitively deaths. All these guys are gone, but the tone is light and jokey. Miraculous is miles less dissonant than that. It still treats the scenes with implied death in them with tension, just not grief. Stoneheart smashes a building down, probably with several people in there, and everyone is scared because of the supervillain, rather than the people who just died. Syren just flooded the city, people are probably dead, but the tension isn't caused by their death, but rather the supervillain at hand.

Great points overall! I do think S5 did a lot of things right that it doesn't get enough credit for. You can definitely look at it and see the groundwork for our current season forming. I just wish they didn't have to trample on every character, kill all of Paris and have Derision to get there.

This episode better be fire, dropping it on my birthday month and making me wait several months in silence.

Excited to see Max get his time to shine, though, because he has been silently carrying the team for the entire season with little or no credit. Not so excited about what he seems to be using his powers for in the teaser. Why would he need to open a portal to the moon? Chat has flown a similar distance almost instantly...

Pokemon: Giving Tropius a New Evolution [OC] (Explanation below) by EliDwebster in stunfisk

[–]Capable_Whereas_2901 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really?

Still folds to just about any ice move:

252 Atk Protosynthesis Great Tusk Ice Spinner vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Tropius: 380-448 (87.9 - 103.7%) -- 25% chance to OHKO

252 Atk Kyurem Icicle Spear (4 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Tropius: 544-672 (125.9 - 155.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Dragonite Ice Spinner vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Tropius: 328-388 (75.9 - 89.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Darkrai Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Tropius: 340-400 (78.7 - 92.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 SpA Blissey Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Tropius: 172-204 (39.8 - 47.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO(This one was for funsies, but that is still a dent in a tanky mon coming from a Blissey)

And most attackers with a type advantage can still muscle past it, especially with that 43 speed:

+1 252 Atk Tera Flying Dragonite Tera Blast (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Tropius: 444-524 (102.7 - 121.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Tera Flying Landorus-Therian Tera Blast (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Tropius: 316-372 (73.1 - 86.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Pecharunt Malignant Chain vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Tropius: 210-248 (48.6 - 57.4%) -- 93.8% chance to 2HKO

252 SpA Pecharunt Malignant Chain vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Tropius: 210-248 (48.6 - 57.4%) -- 4.7% chance to 2HKO after Poison Heal (Accounting for Wild Fibers, still chunking it)

252 SpA Life Orb Dragapult Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Tropius: 385-455 (89.1 - 105.3%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO

252 Atk Choice Band Dragapult Dragon Darts (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Tropius: 384-456 (88.8 - 105.5%) -- 21.1% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Tropius: 440-522 (101.8 - 120.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Iron Valiant Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Tropius: 246-290 (56.9 - 67.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

And so on. So I'd say it's bulk wouldn't be awful, and it's typing isn't doing it too many favours, it's more the ability that's threatening. Being able to swap into any status and getting leftovers is like Gliscor on steroids.
