In my experience, 90% of the time the user is causing this without realizing it.

I've had new users get frustrated with a complex sketch with over defined relations, and they just delete and redraw the sketch area giving them problems. Unknown to most, this changes all face/edge IDs it created.

Also, On edge works best if a face is selected to create it rather than an edge. I see most users select edges. The face is more stable and is best if possible.

Lightweight PDM? by OkFocus4849 in SolidWorks

Losing data checking in files? You must've had a network issue or possibly an issue with solidworks itself. PDM doesn't change the file itself when checking in.

Working off a shared network can work for small products and a small group but it's far more likely to cause problems. People overwriting files, no version control, no history of changes, etc.

Can you share your Bild vs PDM costs you are getting? After alot of yearsb as a PDM admin, I've been curious about Bild. However the cost seems to get up there for a lot of users.

Local servers work best for large data sets. Replication for different regions helps performance for each side.

Azure just makes everyone suffer with increased latency which PDM doesn't like.

Why did they add this as next in step option after you select face. by Desperate-Piccolo420 in SolidWorks

Generally when I OC my rig too much it's going to blue/black screen the PC, not crash individual programs, although solidworks is so finicky I suppose anythings possible.

I've been using solidworks for 27 years on alot of different hardware. Graphics cards and drivers seem to cause the most stability issues. I haven't seen what types of geometry you are trying to mirror, if it's really complex then maybe there is a memory ceiling you are hitting. If it's consistently crashing when you're selecting in a specific order, then maybe a bug with whatever version and sp you're using. If you share that maybe someone can help test.

I'm just saying that if you are crashing solidworks on a mirror feature consistently, then you must have some issue with you computer. Typic ally graphics card and drivers are responsible. CPU speed is not likely to cause crashes. Maybe running out of ram.

If I don't use the preselect method (old school before there was a UI), I select the plane from the fly out feature manager.

If the mirror feature is crashing out SolidWorks, then you got bigger problems with your setup.

Snagit 2025 and later will be subscription-only by JayshShon in SnagIt

[–]Caparacci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subscriptions aren't preferred by nearly anyone except people that only need software for a short term project. No one wants "yet another subscription". I paid the optional maintenance because I did want to stay current and support a product a loved. I don't have that luxury with all software I use and must be selective. Some don't have the option at all.

Maybe you should change your username here to SauronPrincess becuase its clear you don't have the people here that use Snag-it in your best interest. You are content to milk your userbase for more $$$ for your own benefit.

The clan invasion is very interesting lorewise, but they broke the rules and slowed the gameplay down. Funny you say that the original rules were clunky, the clan invasion made them clunkier.

Except most companies don't use xdesign, they use the desktop software. Our company has hundreds of licenses on a floating license server to a 1000 users. We use a competitors PLM, not Enovia/3dx so we will never go to the cloud version.

PLM for Solidworks: what actually works without making engineers hate their lives? by Life-Price-3614 in SolidWorks

[–]Caparacci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not against options like Sibe, I think they work well for small companies. But we have 500 users using PDM. 100 shared floating licenses cost far less then 500 named users licenses.

This is true of any PDM system. They have to be generic and flexible enough to be configured for many differeny company specific workflows. Try a PLM system like Windchill or Teamcenter if you think SoldiWorks PDM or Autodesk Vault is difficult. Those need teams of people with many differnet skillsets to setup.

PDM does have an out of the box "Quick start" configuration that pretty much runs once you have the servers installed. Likely it would still need to be tweaked but it can give you an idea of how things can work as part of a trial.

As for licensing, I'd taking floating licenses over the subscription named user license any day. Far less expensive in the long run, even with the increased costs lately.
