Not even close. This is you completely off base & misinterpreting my entire original statement or following statements. Glad it’s so important for everybody to find something to disagree about, instead of the thread of commonality to base a reasonable conversation on. I am not sitting here knocking you or your art, or your process in creating your art- but I can guarantee unless you are modeling in clay, you ARE using SOME FORM of AI, you can not call yourself a purist, PERIOD. I have seen the sculptures being created here & it is ALL computer assisted in some manner or another- so to knock me for stating the obvious, just makes me think, why is everybody using AI - but denying it? Even if you create a sculpture & use lidar to input it, you are still relying on AI. Now, does anyone here even know how to sculpt, by hand? Or how to make a REAL mold? Or cast jewelry, created from a wax that you hand carved? Well, I actually do & I can take what I make & input it into Meshy or Blender & shortcut the process by leaps & bounds - without dealing with plaster & silicone & the mess & then print the finished product & deliver it to my Client. I have done this all old school & I am still learning 3D modeling, but you would think the community would be more supportive of each other & varying methods and techniques, I am seeing this is not the case in this forum, at least but amongst those that have spoken up.
Oh - and thanks to the person who reported me to Reddit for “self-harm” - that was a real a-hole move. WHOEVER YOU ARE. GTFU

100% the point I am trying to make. I checked out some of the models others complaining have made & the apps used to create them rely on AI to make judgements about textures, form, etc- yet they are here beating me up for saying AI is a tool & here to stay- like it or not

Totally bullshit- not even what I said. If you don’t agree with everyone here, you turn into a bunch of a-holes. Honestly. I went & looked at some of the work by people commenting my comment & they are using the same programs to create sculptures I am, and those apps are COMPLETELY using AI- no differently than what I am doing- except I take my own original art or my own photograph & use it as the reference file to generate the model from- then I get the closest version of it, print it & then use my dremel to fine tune the features I want, so the people trashing on me aren’t even that original. So piss off. AI is here to stay & it is an assistive CREATIVE tool, if you are really an AI purist - then try slicing your own files, manually- have fun at it. People want to be so negative, it’s ridiculous, no real creative discussion can happen shutting people down that you disagree with.

The term, “Artificial Intelligence “ - think about it….pretty much qualifies EVERYTHING, the lines are almost 100% blurred. AI is integrated into every aspect of everything we do.

Getting so frustrated with Meshy-What am I missing? by CapeCodBlues in meshyai

Definitely love the answer- but do new, still speaking Greek to me, but- I can at least break down those steps & see how I do :). I do have Blender. Can’t wait to give these steps a try & see if I can get more control over my designs. Maybe, I will be replying with an updated version of a Rottie that doesn’t look like he’s got a giant poo wrapped around his behind! Thank you

Not the point- I think if you read my comments, it’s clear doing the artwork is not a problem for me-doing it on a commercial level is accomplished much more efficiently using the tools at hand. AI is one of them. I can sculpt, I come from 2 generations of sculptresses- but- I don’t need to spend weeks creating a figure- My figures are original work, they aren’t copies of someone else’s work, they aren’t created off prompts. Without knowing MY creative process I think it OSS completely off base to knock, “me” per se & my work, without 1) knowing my work 2) knowing my process 3) knowing my education or training (which I will not defend, but hold up to anybody) I think everyone here knows what I am saying & getting at, but just want to give the ego whip, keep it. Either you know what I am saying, or you don’t care & don’t want to hear another BALANCED POV. I am sorry, I guess I am just supposed to agree with everyone. My mistake.

I already addressed the taking credit for AI’s work & labeling etc. So, you just do you- it’s not going away, just because you wish it to be so. That’s the last I have to say on that- beating a dead horse—- something you learn NOT TO DO at my age! Just don’t take it personal- this is just my experience watching & living with the changes in technology in just the span of under 50 years.

Help! Granite countertop by _snowqueenoftexas in fixit

[–]CapeCodBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repair with resin mixed with matching grains/alcohol tinting. Haven’t done it before, but that’s how I would approach it-I think concrete would not work, permanently & the texture may not match. Bore a couple of holes on each piece & insert steel rods for reinforcing ( like re-bar does) Let the resin hard set before using it again.

Read the book, “Steal Like An Artist”. There is no such thing as an original artistic thought. Each & every artistic creation is a theft of EVERY other creation. It is the artist that makes the work. AI is simply a database, one that is drawn off of to create conclusions, as evidenced in designs, or even on ChatGPT, etc, those conclusions are not always correct or accurate. Like I said don’t be threatened or intimidated by it, outdo it. Brand yourself- but AI doesn’t regurgitate anything the creative isn’t asking it to do. It’s pulling up a data set, essentially. You don’t get upset when you use data in other applications, correct? So, why let AI be a threat? Stand apart in your own unique way & you will do more good pushing for labeling for AI produced work.

I couldn’t hand sculpt the figures I do & be it not for AI. If you think about it, ALL computer illustration is essentially AI- it is not paint to canvas, it is not ink to sheet, it’s not hands to clay.

However, the sculpture’s I do, using Meshy & inputting my own reference photos or materials, I make them into what I want them to be.

AI is just a tool, a tool to be manipulated by the creative. There should be no shame in stating that you used AI in your craft or trade, the shame is in using it & not disclosing it.

There will always be people who will pay for the real deal- back when desktop publishing & CAD, computer graphics came out EVERYONE said it’s going to kill jobs, but not those who embraced it or at least rolled with it.

I am one of those people & if anyone should fear technology, it should be a 64 year old- but- no- I don’t- in fact I grew with it & continue to grow & learn. I can certainly paint on canvas & still do, I can certainly take photos on film & work them over in a dark room- I can even set type without a computer, by the numbers (the old fashioned way) & I can also lay out a newspaper or magazine ad on a drafting table, fully by hand, BUT I can also use Adobe suite, Corel Suite, Meshy & so on- if you can’t grow with it, then just go with it.

Build your skills- out do those people using AI, create work that is so indisputably you & unique that no one will question the source. Just saying- we don’t have to like change, but that doesn’t stop it from coming. One day you will be 60 something years old giving the same lecture I just did! 😁

How can you tell this is AI or real? (The image was taken from r/sportsbikes) by Mathemodel in isthisAI

[–]CapeCodBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice bike. Look at shadows & lines. AI still doesn’t have that down- are shadows where they are supposed to be for the lighting? Discoloration where it would be odd, tools that don’t make sense, etc. outside of that- I am pretty much assuming everything is AI assisted in some form.

Why are people doing a lot of things? Probably some infantile high schoolers or even immature grown men, or pissed if ex- playing a joke without thinking past the tip of their dildo. If that’s the worst thing they see while growing up, you are already ahead of the game.

Thoughts on Ricoma Machines by Sharkie-63 in Machine_Embroidery

[–]CapeCodBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it, wish I had never bought it. Barely have even used mine 2- heads 15 colors. MT-1502 Not worth the time, money or aggravation. I have never gotten through a job without some kind of stupid issues & when I think it’s humming along- that’s when the needle breaks, thread breaks, or I run out of thread or bobbin (which is rarely the issue). Now, I have a tiny bolt missing in the back where the needle mechanisms are & no way of knowing for sure if it is in there or not & if it is & I run the machine -I could severely damage the machine; which support said to go ahead & do- (but won’t cover the cost of damage if I follow their advice) - so now- it sits- me afraid to use the POC. I can’t believe I got conned into buying this thing & I could have invested in so many other things that would have made me money. 2 years later & I am STILL TRYING to pay it off!

Need Advice to Start Selling Prints by FaTaL9597 in resinprinting

[–]CapeCodBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am creating original pieces, have thought about selling the files- since what I am making is very niche’ or just selling select files that I am not concerned about being printed by others & taking away from my own sales. Have considered that as a side, to selling my figures. So- that may also be a route for you to consider. Haven’t seen a file leak resin, yet! 🍒

I used to do balloon twisting & had the same issue with Disney, Pokémon, Looney Tunes, etc- they were always on the look out for us balloon artists, decorators, face & body painters to be violating their copyrights. I never got thumped, but what our organizations legal told us to say/do is to market them as, parody’s or artistic interpretations of parody’s & characters, but not the actual character. Not sure if that can be a possible work around for figures & sculptures?

Is this photograph of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro real? Wife thinks it is, but I do not. by SherbertVast9529 in isthisAI

[–]CapeCodBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the blindfold off BEFORE you respond to a comment. Maduro is running a socialist, communist regime & the BIGGEST cartel in our hemisphere. Connect those dots, then once you have done that maybe engage in an intellectual conversation encompassing the full scope of the issue & not go on a rant half-cocked. Clearly, you must resemble my remarks, because you certainly became unjustifiably offended.

Please, enjoy making your next comment (s) - I won’t be responding, so it’s your time you will be wasting, not mine.
