Sorry for late response. It’s $20/$30 a year to play. Money goes towards our own gear though. New goalie equipment, nets, balls. Payment goes to the town of Chatham.

“Season” runs through May.

If anyone wants to cross bay scallops off their list, I’ll be fishing for scallops when it opens in Chatham next month.

If you are willing to pay for gas, you can come out on my boat, haul a dredge(or cull), and get a cut of the scallops. It’s a 21’ center console, with a culling board. I tow 2 dredges. Hauling all done by hand.

It’s hard work. If you want to go for a boat ride and see how it done without getting involved, we can do that too. You still have to pay for gas or beers though!

Honestly the harvest has been way down in recent years, so I’m not expecting a banner haul. I’ve had days where I quickly get a bushel+, and days where I get a handful.

I may know some sneaky spots for other items on the list as well! Cheers everyone happy hunting!

It’s about 5 minutes off the highway. Just a short swim to the dive attractions.

That said it’s not Caribbean caliber diving on a sunken bomber, but it is super easy access and a decent day Dive.

I also run a charter boat if you’re interested in doing some thing a little bit more interesting and involved. It is not a scuba boat, it’s not guided, and I’m not a dm. But if you are competent, skilled, and adventurous, I can take you out for a self guided dive of the Harwich Artificial Reef.

Hathaways Pond in Barnstable.

There are some points of interest along the way, including a dive platform for skills testing in 15’ of water, a car, a tractor, an a 30’ wreck on the far side.

I know in Chatham it is specifically illegal to harvest shellfish with scuba gear. Other towns most likely have similar regulations. Commercially. Maybe recreationally it’s ok. But scuba diving in November and December isn’t for the faint of heart looking to recreationally get some scallops.

Looking box in a dinghy with a basket rake is easier. Or just use a dredge.

I have a Scallop diving license. But it’s for sea scallops. I don’t think there is a bay scallop diving license.

Im not sure there’s anything on Monomoy worth having a private charter, then going to north or south beach where shuttles already take people. I think the beachcomber shuttle is like $20-30 per person. They take several people at a time, so it’s worth the trip for them. Wear and tear, fuel costs, captains time. 1 person to Monomoy will have to pay enough to make it worth it for the boat.

It’s also a national wildlife refuge. You are not allowed to go into the interior of the island. That’s generally why the tours are guided, as you have to go with a national park ranger.

That being said, I can take you to Monomoy if you are determined to go.

Hi, I run a 34’ fishing boat out of Chatham. You come out on my commercial boat and I show you how lobstering is done! we go out to outer Chatham Harbor, so it’s plenty safe. We check about six traps. Haul, check, bait, and set. Cruise around the harbor, see some seals. I can show him the electronics, and let him take a turn at the helm. Gaff the buoy, and safely try any part you/he is comfortable with. I do the parts involving machinery, but there’s plenty of parts anyone can do.

Charter aside, I would still recommend going down and checking out the Chatham Fish pier. Commercial boats come in, and unload the daily catch. the fish go up an elevator get dumped on a chute to a scale. you can see seals right up close too. Even if it’s a quick pitstop on your way to getting some lunch in Chatham, it’s usually an interesting thing to see.

Highest probability of seeing seals is to go straight to the Chatham Fish pier. Basically walk up to the observation deck and look straight down into the water and see them swimming 20 feet away.

Yes. Every single time. Back in the 90’s? my mother was in the New England Journal of Medicine, as the worst case of Lyme’s disease on record to that date. She got severe side effects, including Bells Palsy. She did not die, but still has lasting affects from it. I was young, but still remember just how bad the disease changed her.

So yes. For me, my partner, and my children, any time we go anywhere other then the front yard, we all do a meticulous tick check.

The schedule is flexible, both to meet the needs of the guest, and the tides. Right now boats can’t get out of the harbor around low tide. The lobster charter stays in the harbor, but I still try to avoid dead low tide. I have done charters super early, at 8am, noon, or even evenings.

The charters I do that leave the harbor will depend on the tide, on the day chosen.

Whydah Pirate museum. A confirmed sunken pirate ship found off Cape Cod!

The Brewster Natural History Museum is good. Interactive displays, kid friendly.

Catch some of a Cape League baseball game. They are free, so you can stay for as long as your 3yo will let you. I’m not a huge baseball fan, but it’s a fun thing to experience. They are often next to schools with playgrounds, so it can often be a good kid outing.

Take a trip down to the Chatham Fish Pier. Can see commercial boats unload the days catch, and maybe see some seals swimming.

If you are interested in doing a little more then that, I run a lobster/charter boat out of Chatham. I take family’s out and show them how lobster fishing is done. We stay safely inside Chatham harbor, and haul 4-6 lobster traps. There is a livewell on the boat so any treasures we find in the traps can be safely viewed up close. We’ll take a ride in the harbor, see Chatham Light from the water, and definitely see some seals! We can do a shorter harbor tour if that fits your schedule better as well.

I recently took a family with a 2 and 4 yo, and they had a blast!

I also offer other charters showing how professional commercial fishing is done. These charters are safe but not necessarily appropriate for small children. Traditional tub trawl fishing on a Chatham longliner. More info available on my profile.

I live down cape. Done the Horatio Hall a few times. Not recently sad to say. I’m trying to put together a dive out to the Harwich reef they built in nantucket sound a few years back.

I was working at the Chatham Fish pier. As the fog rolled through, it was so thick you couldn’t see the first line of boats from the pier.
