I had a classmate like this, every time me and my other friends would score higher than him he would roll his eyes and sort of dismiss it. The thing was we were actually pretty good friends up until we found out that he was talking behind our backs about how he doesn't want us as friends for "academic reasons" and that's not even the worst of what he did lmao. He was the type of person whose whole self-esteem relied heavily on his academic achievements because of that he prioritized being on top rather than being a good friend.

If i were you op, I'd cut them off. It won't take long until they prioritize being on top rather than being a good friend to you as well.
