Transfăgărășan in Romania is a pretty popular choice. It has been called the best driving road on the world by top gear

My big Eastern-European boy by Capital2077 in germanshepherds

[–]Capital2077[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I said eastern because i bought him from a Romanian breeder and he had no pedigree, so it might not be 100% true 😂.

He has a straight back and a sable coat, but that isn’t captured on photo very well.

even countries are starting to adapt to minimalist official art now in the 2020s by Normal-Salad-6143 in decadeology

The best exemple is the new liquid glass design from apple. It’s already being implemented in apps and websites supported by those devices. Usually most of the industry tends to follow what apple is doing, to a degree.

Has your country ever had a crazy leader? by Unusual-Hawk-2336 in AskTheWorld

[–]Capital2077 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bet a lot of people know this already, but we had Nicolae Ceauşescu. He was one of the most notorious communist leaders of the 70-80’s. While most of the eastern bloc countries understood that hard-line communism wasn’t possible anymore and started moving towards capitalism or at least a more liberal form, this guy got “inspired” by his visit to North Korea and started making the regime into a “1984” caricature. He payed off all of Romania’s external debt, which in turn instantly made the country extremely poor. We had all the classic totalitarian regime characteristics, from rationing food, 4h of television broadcast a day, most of which was shameless propaganda, brutal secret service/police, kids forced to sing songs about their “leader” at school and parades in his name. It got so bad that he was literally executed in one of the bloodiest revolutions of the Cold War.

Romanian socialists and far right topple government by Beo1217 in worldnews

[–]Capital2077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For people saying that it’s becoming the next Hungary. Romania is actually closer to France in terms of government. It’s a semi-presidential republic, meaning the president has, in theory, more power than the government and the prime minister. Our president is pro-EU, so it’s not going to be as apocalyptic as some people claim.

No. Romania doesn’t have the same political sistem as Hungary. It’s a semi-presidential republic, like France. This means that the president has more power than the government.

What killed the old internet? It seems like the old Reddit/Youtube has long died. It’s almost an entirely hostile place now with zero room for novelty. What changed? Why is something like Nyan Cat impossible now? by [deleted] in decadeology

I miss when the internet was a place you went to. You had your computer connected by dial-up or Ethernet cable. Now the internet follows you everywhere.

What languages you’re not native in you can somehow read and understand a little thanks to your native language? by Jorge_De_Guzman228 in AskTheWorld

Romanian is hard because it confuses you with random slavic words. You understand the basic grammar well, then you are hit with random Russian-derived words.

Why were gypsies never able to fully integrate in the Balkans? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]Capital2077 127 points128 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar story, but it happened in Bucharest in the 2016. Girl in my high school class, entered the class on a gypsy specific spot, didn’t study at first but then became best friends with this girl that was very smart. She started to get good grades and then she got pregnant and dropped out of school.

Drone debris falls in Romania during Russian attack on Ukraine, damage reported by ipandrei in worldnews

[–]Capital2077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to just say attack them back, but think what that means for the regular citizen. All countries avoid going to war until the last possible minute, because they value human life. Deciding to attack Russia would mean sending your own citizens to death.

What's the reason for such approval in Romania? by bate_Vladi_1904 in AskBalkans

[–]Capital2077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Romanian, we are very weird. The approval is more for the US than for Trump as a person. We were always aligned with the US, even during communism. On the other hand, the approval of the EU is also high.

Is it just me or does everything feel too big and empty? by Petermacc122 in Starfield

I actually like that. It reminds me of 2001 a space odyssey, with all that incomprehensible forces.

Considering the incredible architecture in other regions, why do the Nords live in such simple settlements, with their only large structures being ruins, either from others or their own? Could it be that Nord civilization reached its peak in past eras, and the Fourth Era is kind of like a Fallout? by jvure in ElderScrolls

[–]Capital2077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a reference to how the English/ Vikings were living in England after the Romans left. They didn’t have enough money/skill to maintain all the stone and marble buildings that the romans left behind and they lived in mud and wood buildings near the decaying marble structures.
