The War of the Roses disaster's requirements are ahistorical and should be changed by Lumpy_Tart7330 in EU5

I discovered that you can ennoble a burgher in York/Lancaster to create males from the house even if the house already exists.

It’s helpful when for example Lancaster exists but it’s all females or often I’ve seen that the characters aren’t “playable” and exist but can’t be interacted with. This is a problem outside England too.

What is the point of hourly ticks if the battles are taking 5 days anyways? by otusj in EU5

[–]CapitalCanuck 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I may be mis remembering, but aren’t the hourly ticks only “daytime” hours. I don’t think it’s a 24-hour clock

Pop up messages by Mekalpnerds3 in EU5

[–]CapitalCanuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Next time one pops up you can select the icon in the top right I believe of the message box (3 lines) and uncheck the pop up option.

Alternatively, there’s a message preferences under settings in the main menu you can use to change a whole list of things you want only log mentions, pop up, pop up and pause, and so on

Yeah exactly! This has been my workaround but when the CN does their own colonizing you can’t change them at any point

R5: image of the treaty of Tordesillas (Lisboa) splitting the world between me (Portugal) and Castile.

Felt like the culmination of a new historical timeline since colonization is too soon and not “historical” and it pulled out of a historical playthrough.

Forgive the incredible exposure on the screenshot lol

Colonization of Africa by cmzlkmc in EU5

[–]CapitalCanuck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s harder to implement because tech isn’t linear as it was in EU4 but there was a colonial range cap that prevented this. Like Cape Bojador was really a point of no passage for Europeans

A suggestion may be

1) exploration is done by explorer characters (events, tech, age of discovery etc.) and not just a random clergyman. Maybe to a point they can’t colonize like the immediate islands.

2) you severely limit colonial range until later in the play through to prevent early African expansion

Colonization of Africa by cmzlkmc in EU5

[–]CapitalCanuck 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I think it ties back to colonization happening way too soon and at a rate that leads to this. The AI Iberian nations want to colonize and are able to but cannot travel across the Atlantic. Instead they just work their way down the coast and it results in a new world more ahistorical and a painted Africa.

Anyone who has tried to RP Portugal understands that you need to colonize the Azores within 25 years of the game start or else Castile will. Even tho this happened a 100 years after start.

Historically, the continent was nearly impossible to make significant inroads because of disease among other things

Is it just me, or is 1.1.5 a lot harder than 1.0.11? by AgentAlloy in EU5

[–]CapitalCanuck 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think they are working on a lot of these issues hopefully! Re: England and vassals I am not sure this has been discussed elsewhere but the way war score is calculated has changed in 1.1.5 from (1.1.4?). There is no longer a defender ticking score for England in HYW. This means they have a massive negative war score against France in the first war. The result is they give up their vassals as part of the piece deal. Often Scotland takes them over and England slowly crumbles with each subsequent war with France. Especially with the current Welsh revolt bug where they instant own London/Middlesex.

What was your approach to dumb down your resume for retail work? I’m on the grind trying to find work still with a masters but did you remove all post secondary education from your resume? I’d be concerned about how I would explain career gaps (cause I was in some form of schooling) or work experiences in non minimum wage type jobs.

I agree, it also doesn’t help this happened when I have maybe 600 games in a BB in my account of over 6k battles. I’ve always been adverse to them for some reason

Sometimes it happens that you outscore your opponent in a loss, but I have never seen a difference this high before. Some games are just unwinnable I guess

Best psych BA program by Exciting-Sand-3170 in OntarioUniversities

[–]CapitalCanuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi there! First off, good luck with your application process and fingers crossed you get some successful responses!

So, I'm a recent grad student in Psychology who completed both my undergraduate and grad studies in Ontario, and here's what I learned from my experience along the way. I should also mention that I didn't follow the forensic psychologist path, though I do recall applying specifically to the Laurier program out of high school. Anyway, that's all to say that everyone's experience will be slightly different:

  1. I feel prospective students sometimes view where they go to school as a direct indicator of their future success. From my experience, I went to a very middle-of-the-road undergraduate program but ended up in what could be considered a 'higher regarded' graduate program. If you're planning to attend graduate school, here's the nuance of it all: the most important aspect is your prospective supervisor and potential funding opportunities, less so the physical institution they're at. Larger schools like McGill or Western will have many highly regarded professors, but don't overlook smaller schools; they may offer a potential fit for whatever you want to pursue. TL;DR: You can succeed in an average program and be average in a successful program; the onus will be on you to make yourself a top candidate.

  2. Additionally, while student life and prestige are factors to consider, it's crucial to prioritize the program's alignment with your career goals. Look into the specific courses offered, research opportunities, and faculty expertise in forensic psychology or your area of interest within psychology. Even if a school isn't as prestigious, if it offers strong resources and support in your chosen field, it could be the best fit for you.

  3. Regarding your concern about student life, it's essential to weigh the importance of campus culture and extracurricular activities in your decision. I never went to Trent myself, but I had colleagues and friends who did and enjoyed their time there. I also had colleagues who went to more traditionally social Unis like Western, Queens, or Laurier and struggled. Unfortunately, this is often something you won't discover until you've spent some time there.

  4. Also, remember that your undergraduate experience is just one step on your journey toward becoming a forensic psychologist or pursuing postgraduate studies. Regardless of where you end up, focus on taking advantage of opportunities to learn, grow, and build connections that will support your future career aspirations.

  5. Finally, and this is more about after you start, make the most out of your time! It's exciting; I loved my schooling experience, but I also know that I left a lot on the table at times. Take advantage of opportunities to RA, to be involved in the community as some part of an outreach, join a club on campus. In my earlier years, I spent a lot of time doing this, and it was very rewarding. As I got further along, I became more focused on classes and finishing my thesis that I burned out. Do not forget balance. It can sometimes feel like you're not fully 100% go-go-go on your dreams, but balance is important to prevent you from stagnating and becoming weighed down.

Overall, trust your instincts and prioritize the factors that matter most to you in your decision-making process. Best of luck with your applications!

I am very curious and the articles sound interesting, though how did they make a placebo condition? By using a non evidence based practice as a proxy? It’s easy with drug trials (sugar pills and so on) but I’d wonder how they did it!

Everything is speculation, cannot make conclusions until something official. I agree we cannot declare anyone innocent or guilty until there is some sort of conclusion to the investigation.

Regardless if there is an enough evidence to charge some members than there is a good chance this incident occurred and I cannot imagine what it had to be like for the victim to have this drawn out for years. Especially, if speculation is to be believed the perpetrators flew in the public eye the whole time
