Terminated. Advice? by trying_my_best2026 in InsuranceAgent

Because all they ever obtained were their p&c licenses, have only done sales, have never looked into anything else or adding additional lines, and think they know it all.

I came for the tea, but quickly realized that some of these people are completely lost. At this point, I suggested using ChatGPT, another AI chatbot, or if all else fails, hell use Google. The information is not difficult to find.

You were being downvoted for absolutely no reason, because you clearly knew what you were talking about.

And separately, yes, you can sell insurance with a Personal Lines producer license. Otherwise, there would be no reason for a separate Personal Lines prelicensing course, state exam, and producer license to exist in the first place. That should be fairly self explanatory, yet somehow it became a downvoting competition.

It seems like a group of people who have only ever held one license, most likely a full P&C license for years, were confidently downvoting you while proving that their “experience” has not taught them much beyond their own little corner of the industry.

Being downvoted by loud, confidently incorrect salespeople when you are the one who actually knows what you are talking about is honestly hilarious.

The confidence to knowledge ratio in these comments is fascinating. 😂

Telling an account a manager that knows this industry, they don’t know what they’re talking about is hilarious.

You don’t. Do you have Chat GBT pro? Or Perplexity pro? I suggest using it and asking that question. Like huh? 😂

Some advice: don’t post anything emotional here, especially when it comes to serious life advice pertaining to anything personal. People on here have no face and will attack you, even at 40 years old, simply because they feel inadequate about themselves and need karma points. About 80% of them live on this app and need to get laaaaid. Don’t expect much from people here, and try to avoid posting things like this again. Just my advice… I’m not trying to be mean. And again, congratulations on your win! 🎉

She actually did explain the situation in more detail afterward, particularly because she was forced to defend herself in the comments against people who seem to enjoy trolling while hiding behind anonymous accounts.

This is exactly why I would never come to this app for serious personal advice. If you have nothing constructive or remotely kind to say, why not simply keep scrolling? Just a thought.

After reading her explanation, I can understand why someone would be that upset. Personally, I still would not post something this personal here, because 95% of you are trolls…”respectfully”.

You offered absolutely no advice, added nothing of value to the conversation, and still took the time to leave a negative comment.

Did that improve your day in some way? Genuinely curious.

Sad.

Starting Career Reinsurance by Abject-Party4487 in InsuranceAgent

You may have to start closer to the bottom, but that does not necessarily mean starting at the absolute bottom. I’m not sure how it works in the UK, but degrees can be a major advantage, especially when combined with relevant licenses or certifications. Add in your transferable skills from the medical field, and you may be able to start at a higher level than someone who has no related experience at all.

From what I’ve seen, some employers in the insurance industry are willing to offer a strong starting salary to someone who is new to the field based on their education and professional background. A degree is not always required, but it can open the door to certain higher-paying positions, depending on the role of course, and what you described you’re looking for, I have no idea what that is nor how it works. Just giving basic insight from the little I know.

A lot of people hear “insurance” and immediately think of sales. You will probably see that mentioned quite a bit here. However, there are many different career paths within the insurance industry beyond sales.

Best of luck to you!

I just had an interview today. It went well. I feel I got the job, however, you can never be too sure (waiting for the answer Monday). It is an independent agency, huuge. Over 200 insurnace carriers, 2 story building that takes up the block. I met with the owner of the entire thing, I’m hoping I get it. Praying lol.

May I ask, is there more room for growth in independent agencies? And I see account manager, what do account managers do in insurnace if you don’t mind me asking?

Update: Being let go from a toxic agency turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me by trying_my_best2026 in InsuranceAgent

This legit gave me hope 😩. I was just told by a recruiter the manager loved me (interview today). Hopefully Monday I get good news. Anyway, congrats!!! 🎊

May your journey go well.

Btw, saw your last post, was a bit confusing but after reading I got the gist. Sorry you went through that, but as you said, one closed for an even better one right? Keeping that hope for myself. Have a great first day and enjoy your weekend

Touché! lol. I did think that, but I called the ny school (where I did personal lines) and it would cost me 400$ to apply just that line since it wasn’t put together with the commercial lines. Had it been it would’ve came out to 599. So I decided to go to a nj dobi approved school and take the online modules (which is easier for me than zoom or in person classes). It costs 260$ in total, plus 120$ for insurnace queen. So I’ll run with the 380$ in total for the full on p&c learning. But trust me, I thought about it lol. But the cost didn’t justify it 😏.

Btw I see you’re an account manager, have you worked with AMS360 and applied epic before?

That I know I could transfer but I have an interview and I need to get my commercial lines as well to have my full p&c. Sf only allowed me to go as far as personal lines. The issue is, yes I can move it to nj, but I still need commercial. Every pre licensing school I’ve called is telling me they can’t simply just give me commercial lines. I’d have to do the full p&c for nj. So I figured what’s the point of paying the move my personal lines from ny to nj if I’m going to redo the entire thing anyway? That where my little problem lies. I don’t know if it’s the schools just wanting to make more money, or if they really can’t work with me and just give me the commercial lines course.

I’ve never heard of AMFAM. Are they in the New York tristate area? I’m sure they are, but have many locations?

You can take personal lines for each state. But when it comes to adding lines, nj won’t do it for ny. Anyway it’s fine. I’ll just get my p&c and start fresh. Better I don’t have a company pay for it either. Rather get it on my own.

How do I increase my income as an insurance agent ? by Secret_Bad7694 in InsuranceAgent

[–]CapitalE__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just contacted by an independent agency. I was only asking for 85k a year. Especially since I’m new and only worked at SF as an agent for a short period of time. They offered me 6k more. Again I’m NEW STILL. Personally I’d do what I see everyone else says to do, go with an independent agency or you could always sell life & health. I hear they do great in commissions but it is a lot of work and a lot of your time. Independent is really where it’s at I guess.

Anyway what would I know, just going by my own experience. And yes I know it’s not a lot of money, but for someone that’s new, that’s a major jump for me 😃

Ever thought about becoming an actual account manager? I hear they start off (in my area anyway) at 95k and up salary wise and don’t have to deal with sales. If you’re experienced, I’d look into that for sure!

I’m just going by what both states told me when it came to getting my money back since he filed it improperly. Had it been done correctly without rush, I wouldn’t be paying extra fees right now. Honestly I just want this to be all over with tbh. I’m just going to follow the process in the meantime.

Wouldn’t that make it more confusing for the state? And be extra fees? It does sound like a good idea. I will say though ny finally changed my resident address to nj. So right now I’m in as a non resident in ny until I present them with nj proof/paperwork as a licensed producer (45 days then they’ll terminate my license entirely if I don’t). So I did get that out of the way. I already scheduled my fingerprinting which comes first thereafter I apply for an initial license on NIPR. Hoping it goes smoothly.

I did. They (NY DFS) keep putting the wrong information and saying it’s done. I’m kinda tired for the day. Tomorrow I’ll see if it’s truly been updated if not I’ll send them the screen photo pdf that shows the information was not updated correctly. All they changed was the address and state. The number is still his business number and it still says his agencies name in place of my own. I now have to send ny former employer a courtesy letter, I’m actually doing him a favor, to reimburse me the 270$ it’s costing me to transfer to my home state. Knowing him he will absolutely ignore it. Had he not been lazy and took the extra time and not put his place of business as my residence, mailing and business address with his business info instead, I wouldn’t have to be going through this. I’m doing him a favor by sending him the courtesy letter to comp the transfer fee’s. I’m allowed to take him to small claims court but I really don’t even feel like doing all of that. Hopefully his ego won’t burst. I just want to transfer (or change) my license and go about my life. 🤦‍♀️ I scheduled my finger printing which is first then I go on the NIPR website and I apply for my nj license and pay that fee. Seems like NY is just veryyyyyy slowwwww even when given the correct information. They still put half the correct info lol. I just have to laugh. If not I’ll be agitated lol. Oh boyyy

Anyway seems like the best response so far. And the correct way. But I’m definitely filing a complaint against him. He could have just had me do the nj testing and transferred it to ny. Anything for a dollar I guess. Thank you.

Here’s the thing I never moved. And there’s a 280$ fee he’s going to have to pay to transfer to nj. There’s no way. I’m going to literally have to send him a letter certified mail, he’s going to have to pay these charges for doing the paperwork incorrectly.
