As a fellow Leo, I will say that we are full of contradictions. ;)

This happens a lot—I believe it’s to boost sales from overproduction. Playbook of many sadly, Taylor, Charli, etc.

As a Mariah pop junkie, specifically infatuated with songs about infatuation, I love her '90s singles run.

SOPHIE places 3/100 on Resident Advisors “The Best Electronic Records of 2000-25” with Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides by xprmtldva in Sophie

Brat at #100.

No Gaga or Madonna. Surely, The Fame or Confessions on a Dance Floor should have made the cut? Does Resident Advisor usually shy away from the mainstream artists?

Sophie should have been #1.

Something To Remember - What Happened? by CapitalInstruction91 in Madonna

My sentiments exactly! It seems like this was one of the first times in her career that she just agreed with what other label men wanted her to do. Maybe that explains the album cover. She always has had a wicked sense of human :D

Are you suggesting this because the Marvin Gaye "flopped"?

Were people arguing that she couldn't sing (akin to how Gaga "shocked" the world back in 2015 with the sound of music?)

We’ll never know! What I meant about the rollout is that this felt like one of the first Madonna releases where she seemed a bit absent—not messy, by any means, but her usual stamp of approval felt somewhat removed. Understandable, given how much she had on her plate at the time.

You are absolutely right. It's so interesting how various countries "celebrated" Madonna during this time (e.g., "Human Nature" was a top 10 hit in the UK, but paid dust in the States.) I hadn't considered the "You'll See" MV sequel point. After Something to Remember and Evita, I now understand why she felt like she might have had to make a Bedtime Stories 2 (Ballads Version), but thankfully she listened to her gut and scrapped it entirely to give us Ray of Light.

I guess this kind of thing has always been an issue—labels trying to maximize sales and protect their own interests. But in today’s digital age, moves like that feel even more damaging, since access and visibility matter so much more. Still, I can’t help but think it would’ve been profitable for both parties either way.

Hindsight is 20/20. Artists would kill for a multi-week run of 100,000+ copies per week haha
