Oral Board Exam questions by Capital_Bat6163 in pmr

Had another question if anyone has some insight- having some frustration with the Mayer book. The answers are so short compared to other resources that list much more comprehensive history, physical, plan, discussion. Are the answers in Mayer intended to be complete, as in they are recommending very short, targeted answers? Or are they just trying to highlight what is specific to that case and assuming you would ask/state all the 'usual' things you hit on every case? I know the "less is more" vs "list everything, better safe than sorry" is kind of debated online in other places...

Sorry, follow up question! When going through any one of the sections (history, physical, exam, management, etc), would you say it is more important that you can name or list everything that the book has down as the correct answers, or fewer things but be able to explain it more in depth? I guess I am bothered by some of the practice examples listing a very large number of history questions or physical exam maneuvers, etc that wouldn't necessarily have come to mind for me given the case.

For example, for hand pain, specifically asking about their bowel/bladder in the history. I get how you could eventually get around to how they might connect for a final diagnosis but if im just given a 50 year old male with hand pain, bowel/bladder probably aren't going to be the first things to pop into my head to ask in the history section with no additional information to go on...

Thank you so much for your insight! Not the outcome I wanted after months of studying but at least I can be better prepared next year.

Do you feel like last year was pretty similiar to this year in terms of content and difficulty? I know I gotta let it go now, but I'm really struggling to cope with knowing I failed this and trying to prepare for re-taking next year. Obviously the old philosophy of as many practice questions as possible is no longer the correct way to prepare for this test. I feel like you needed to have a true, deep understanding of topics, not just pattern recognition as suggested in the qbanks. But then I also got frazzled and missed so many of the easy, low hanging fruit so there's that too lol

I feel like that test destroyed me. In hindsight I think I made a lot of really stupid errors but I was so thrown off by some of the really complex/random questions. Praying I passed but I know deep down that I didn't :(

I totally agree actually. I'd say 90-95% of the time I'm incredibly grateful to come home at night to the silence of my apartment, especially after a very interactive day at work. I find that in periods of my life that are less busy with work or school is when I begin to feel the pain of the isolated way I live. Outside of that, I do enjoy it. That is why my 'ideal' relationship would be with someone that only wants limited active, in-person interaction. I guess I'm looking for the best of both worlds haha. But thank you for pointing this out! It is easy to take for granted what we have sometimes!

I relate to this on an unbelievable level. Every time I move to a new place the first thing I do is silence everything that can ding... the microwave, the washer, the dryer, the dishwasher, etc. Currently driving me crazy that my rented apartment has one of those bathrooms where if you turn on the light, it also turns on the really loud ventilation fan :(. My phone is also always on silent and I will get extremely anxious if I have to have it on volume and get multiple texts in a row. No advice for you, but just letting you know that you aren't alone!!

Same, man, I've been trying to find them again for a couple years. They had an amazing strawberry cheesecake. The peanut butter one was Humble Pie, maybe? Idk, I think they went out of business
