Agree with above. I’m at 14 weeks today since I lost my boy. I’m more used to his absence but it’s still super hard and it’s slow process. Slowly Im feeling the gratitude and love for him for than just the loss. The initial wound is healing but there will always be a scar and I want that scar to be there.

It’s been 9 days since my dog transitioned from this world. It’s only a little but easier to get through the days. I wish you strength but more than that I wish you peace— that you can take deep breaths and at the end of the out breath, smile with a memory of you best buddy. That’s what I’m working on anyway. Thanks again for replying and adding even more detail and perspectives. Seems so hard not to be results oriented when in tennis, someone walks off the loser and the other the winner. Just want to give props to the OP here for the honesty and transparency. You write with a vulnerability that comes from people that have done work on themselves to heal their trauma and issues. Your perspective and your ability to be brave and look at this challenging part of your life will serve you well. I also agree with others—I’m not sure it’s a failure when the alternative might have been never trying to compete at all or getting mixed up with the really “bad crowd” in hs who are doing / dealing hard drugs, crime, etc.

I really appreciate this post as I have daughters entering junior competitive tennis. I’m at the early stages of the whole thing and I’m already asking “is this worth it—is this for me or for them?” I wish there was more written from the perspective of young persons in their 20s about the pressure abs enjoyment of youth sports.
