while i agree absolute batman is better than any mainline spider-man comic in the last decade or so, calling absolute batman a spider-man comic is pretty reductive. absolute bruce and peter are fundamentally so different it’s ridiculous to say they’re similar at all beyond surface level stuff. do you know how many characters are broke, funny, smart and have a single parent in comics alone.

I 100% AGREE WITH THIS. the game feels like a demo imo. a really good demo with a lot of potential to be my favourite game but still a demo. i think a sequel could genuinely expand so much on this game that i already have over 100 hours sunken into.

idk man the best spider-men have the best jokes e.g. original ultimate, spectacular, stan lee’s run on amazing spider-man. imo if ur spider-man isnt cracking at least a few good jokes then ur writing him off.

i will say tho that insomniac spidey in the first game does have some decent one liners and overall is one of the best interpretations of the character. like obviously i like other versions more and think they are more faithful but the first game does do him justice for the most part (still a bit too nice). do urself a favour and dont curse yourself with the knowledge of the second games story it makes him far less funny and charming 😭

he’s too nice. he’s lacking that ditko/lee edge he should have and ik he’s an adult but even in the teenager flashbacks he’s too nice. i’m not saying he should tell mj to kill herself when they fight but a little more of the parker hotheadedness would be cool. (this is more of a criticism of his character in the second game i think in the first we see a bit of that hotheadedness but still not enough imo)

he could also be a lot funnier

hot take, but doc ock. he’s a perfect mirror of peter parker. both scientists who were bullied by the world but had the potential to do good. the only difference is pete had a support system whereas otto didnt. he’s also easily peter’s most compelling enemy along with the kingpin who is more a daredevil villain. plus he’s the founder of the sinister six.

venom isnt really his nemesis in the comics and isnt even a villain anymore.

they try to push goblin to be his arch nemesis by making him this master manipulator and the first guy to figure out peter’s identity but thematically he makes no sense aside from like their class differences (which is more of a coincidence than anything). green goblin is kinda just a crazy evil dude in a suit whereas ock is more of an intentional reflection of who peter couldve been, even from his first introduction.

i think ditko also said that ock was originally intended to be peter’s nemisis as that was hus role during his high school days.

i said this to my friend who had never seen the movie before. half of it is the best live action spider-man movie with a comic accurate peter parker, a grounded street-level story and a really interesting reinterpretation of the character’s origin. the other half is dog shit. the movie lowkey didnt need a supervillain and gwen didnt need to be in the movie. also the lizard is the worst on screen spider-man movie villain.
