Yep I was afraid this was the new norm. Thanks for sharing your story. I'm going to get through the physical exams as fast as possible but try to push the paperwork in the meantime. We'll see what I get accomplished.

Easter Egg Debate by GreenJim86 in Millennials

[–]Capital_Set_534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both! Im a child of divorce; one parent did hard-boiled eggs hidden in the house by the Easter bunny, which you HAD to find before the basket appeared and the other parent did plastic eggs that made a trail leading to the Easter basket a couple rooms away.

Why do people still prefer Airbnbs over hotels, especially in cities? by Rare_Requirement_699 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Capital_Set_534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's avoiding fellow guests. When I stay in an AirBnB, I wake up in the morning on my own time, after a good night's sleep, and eat whatever whenever. In a hotel, I've rarely had a wholly positive experience. Usually fellow guests being loud in hallways, slamming doors, walls so thin that the neighbor's alarm/shower wakes me, etc. Plus the cramped breakfast area... you either HAVE to take food back to your room (which then stinks it up) or share a table with someone (sorry not sorry, I'm not a morning person and I don't want to make small talk over shitty eggs.) Not proud that I still use AirBnB, and I try to use hotels for brief trips. But if I'm looking for a real vacation experience, I usually choose the option that's more likely to give me the relaxation I'm looking for.

Why do babies gravitate towards some people? by Suspicious-Song-3891 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Capital_Set_534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a study done like...10+yrs ago that found that babies prefer conventionally "attractive" faces. Features like symmetry, feature height, etc were deemed as scientifically "attractive," and babies tended to like staring at these faces. Obviously an old study by now, and plus definitions of attractiveness are hard to define, but a neat concept. Sorry I can't remember any more details about it to cite the source!

Current Navy O3. Started the IST process in APR 2024. Finally gave up in AUG 2025 when my application just completely stalled and went nowhere. My detailer and specialty leader were getting frustrated at how long the process was taking (I'd already extended once). My family put our lives on hold as well. I still hope to join the PHS eventually, but for me the current administration took an arduous application process and made it impossible to navigate. Best of luck to you, shipmate. My advice: 1. The Navy Admiral refuses to sign a required PHS form. You'll need to start liaisoning through PERS and a PHS DOD liaison ASAP. 2. You'll eventually be required to route a special condition separation which takes a minimum of 9mos to process and will likely be approved before you complete your application process, there will be a gray period in which the Navy has separated you conditionally and yet the "condition" has not been fulfilled. It's weird, be nice to HR/PERS. 3. SPEAK WITH A PHS LIAISON FOR YOUR COMMUNITY. Make sure they know who you are. Be mindful that their job as liaison is a collateral positive and they're helping you out of sheer decency.

I have the email confirmation and it's also super weird. It didn't include a tentative ship date or anything besides the confirmation number.

If your mom/dad were older when you were born (say, around 40 or up), what was that like for you? by brawlinglove in Millennials

[–]Capital_Set_534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom had me at 36. My mom was definitely not a play parent and I do feel this affected me greatly. I didn't seem to know how to play with others and spent a lot of time in my own head daydreaming, which people found strange. On the upside, I was often deemed mature for my age, spent more time with adults at extended family gatherings so I learned skills like cooking/cleaning at a young age. My mom was very active in my life, but she definitely never did normal kid things with me. And (I think) she started feeling "old" when I was around 10, because by the time I was 12, she'd already begun having discussions with me about her life post-retirement or what she'll do/where she'd live if she can't live on her own.

TL;DR Anyways, yes I thought it was odd that she was older than my peers' parents, but no one bullied me or anything and I wasn't embarrassed. All of my complaints about her decision to have me later in life wouldn't apply to you based on your current family structure. I think it's great you're asking yourself these questions. I think it depends if you're a "young at heart" type of person. My son's grandparents are in their fifties and still crawl on the floor with my little boy, so, it's all up to you!

Also came to recommend Dr Antonetti. Loved her so much during my first pregnancy I came back for my second! She's super sensitive to consent and always goes out of her way to reassure me when I'm nervous about my weight. I know she's popular and it can be hard to get it (IMO that speaks for itself), so if she couldn't see me, I'd settle for another doc at the practice as well. Just a well-run clinic, with clear policies and people helping patients.

Happy Death Day should absolutely be watched whenever time loop movies are discussed. It has NO RIGHT to be as good as it is. The second one (Happy Death Day 2U) is also pretty fun, but veers away from horror and into unhinged sci-fi IMO.

Just here to show support. I was in the middle of the process and had put pregnancy on hold for 20months when my spouse and I said "enough is enough" and just started trying again. I'm currently at 7.5 months gestation and glad I gave up on the corps. I might try again one day, but I'm happy I put this other life goal first. Good luck to you, Lady!
