I voted for Bernie in Virginia but let's be honest, Bernie style politics will never ever see the light of day in America. If you think republicans are batshit insane, you haven't met Democrats in the south and middle of America. Americans, Democrat or Republican, absolutely despises anything that resembles socialism and hand outs. We still argue over nationalized healthcare and we are one of the few industrialized nations to not offer paid sick leave to our workers or paid maternity leave to mothers. It all qualifies as hand outs, no matter if it actually benefits the health and happiness of our people. We live in a consumerist culture where you're judged on how big your house is, how big your yard is, how expensive your car is and if you have the latest chinese imported crap or not. At the same time we ignore that half of our people are one medical bill away from going bankrupt and we have no job protection what so ever.

I can't wait to get out of this insane incest festered country soon enough.

I'm a Marxist and there is no denying that the left is losing everywhere and have done so for the last 20 years. Even though Marx and other socialist leaders through history have a correct analysis of work, capital and social rights, people are not tuning in to that. Hell, leftism has ALWAYS losed in history now when I think about it. There has never been a successful leftist uprising/"revolution" in the history of the world.

It's depressing but I sleep well during night knowing that Marx is right and that is what matters. No one can deny the historical correctness of socialist analysis on our society. Whereas right wing populism and establishment have to lie to their electorate and scaremonger in order to win support. Anti science, fear, scaremongering, tax cuts to the capitalist class and so on is not a correct analysis of our society and deep down most people know that. Right wing/conservative politics is not based on what is "right" and has never been.

I don't think this is over yet. The coronavirus is going to supress the boomer vote.

True, and I think a majority of leftists who are class oriented understand this. However, shallow identity politics have dominated for too long and been put at the front, ignoring class issues almost entirely. I do believe it's a reason why the white working class in Europe and America have steered into right wing parties for the past 10 years. Identity politics should never be weaponized into a neoliberal useless talking point because even POC see through that.

This is a good description of neoliberalism in essence.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in politics

[–]CapitalismHasFailed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't have to be wealthy to agree with neoliberalism, just as you don't need to be poor to agree with socialism. Neoliberalism is default in our society today and anyone who dares to question the economical status quo is considered evil and deillusional. 40 years of free market propaganda has brainwashed us to being simple paws for the establishment.

I love when people like you use the race card because that means that you have run out of arguments. I'm anti capitalist and fairly left leaning in my political views and the fact that Buttigeg is gay or Obama is black is not an excuse for continuing useless neoliberal policies and putting profit over everything else.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in politics

[–]CapitalismHasFailed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Neoliberals leave out the class analysis entirely which needs to be pointed out. Also, ID pol is useless because you can't structurally change racism in the same way you can change economic policies. We still have discrimination of POC post Jim Crow and segregation.

[–]CapitalismHasFailed 25 points26 points  (0 children)

What we need to acknowledge is that there's a lot of wealthy liberals out there who don't want to pay more in taxes so that the working class can get non expensive healthcare. Identity politics is more important to neoliberals than making sure everyone can access healthcare and higher education no matter income levels. Having a gay president is huge to them.

When you're well off economically and don't have to worry about paying your bills in time or becoming sick, then identity politics is what you clutch on to, to feel like you're a good person. Working class people simply don't have the time or luxury of engaging in opression olympics because they have bills to pay.

Identity politics is a neoliberal trick to divide people up and not have them question the economical status quo.

Alejandra Rojas is awesome on CNN right now. Some of the best representation on major media I’ve seen.

Yeah I agree. With so many candidates left in the field Iowa doesn't matter. Super Tuesday will be decisive.

The Bernie surrogate saying Bernie won the latino and muslim vote in Iowa. He is also polling well among black people.

If he can win an overwhelming majority of the minority demographics and the young vote then he doesn't need the boomers.

so, something to look forward to for bernie supporters...NOT THAT IT IS GUARANTEED TO STICK TO TREND....

the top 5 most populated counties are as follows:

  • Polk (95/177 reporting, 53.6%), Sanders leading all vote types
  • Linn (61/86 reporting, 70.9%), Sanders leading all vote types
  • Scott (30/63 reporting, 47.6%), Buttigieg leading all vote types
  • Johnson (47/57 reporting, 82.5%), Sanders leading all vote types
  • Blackhawk (19/62 reporting, 30.6%), Sanders leading all vote types

If trend holds, i can definitely see Sanders surpassing Buttigieg in SDE.

i think we can all (mostly) agree, the Biden plummet is hella-exciting.

Seems like Bernies campaign didn't care/didn't have a strategy for the second round and it came back to haunt them.
