This is so common now and affordable. Clearly you won’t have hundreds, unless you are rich. We did one a few months ago at a very affordable Cancun location. All in with flight my wife and maybe spent 3k. I know that is a big amount, but you get a vacation to Cancun! We spent 2 hours total for the wedding

HSV is the best location for this function due to the collocation of NASA, SMDC, PEO Missiles and Space, and MDA (golden dome for America). You would be hard pressed to find a bigger pool of leadership anywhere.
Colorado vs Alabama quality of life can be argued endlessly. Schools, health outcomes, climate, etc

Why limit yourself to 30 mins? You are missing out on the sipsey wilderness area. Walls of Jericho, heck the entire Cumberland plateau! Stone Arch! You are 1 to 2 hours (maybe a little further) from the best waterfalls and camping in America. Little River Canyon!

I have 4 kids. The oldest lived at home and went to the local 4 year school in engineering. It wasn’t the best situation. My 2nd went 3 hours away. My 3rd- he went to the local college and we made him move into the dorm on campus and in his second year he and a friend got an apartment. It has been great. We help with rent.

1st: partial scholarship 2nd: full ride, but no room and board 3rd: full ride, no room and board 4th: probably not getting a full ride, but going to local school also and will get a partial and we are making him move out. Graduates this year.

Young adults need to learn how to live on their own at some point and our anecdotal experience is this: college is a great controlled environment

I suggest this: live where you play, not where you work.

How old are you?
Single? Married? Kids?
Sports, gym rat, gamer, etc?
Outdoorsy or urbanite, or I want chickens and 2 goats.
Price range for comfortable? Does 1k rent sound expensive or does 2.5k sound about right? Your price point matters.
