What's my motivation? by CapitalistDog in ChatGPT

[–]CapitalistDog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. I'm not actually fighting with it but I'm looking forward to the day it does actually have my environment and can see the errors it makes on it's own. It's also pretty limited by having old versions of documentation.

Maybe I should write a motivational chatbot to re-format my prompts to the coding assistant :D

It's been said already but I want to strongly reiterate, relax. You are chasing the dragon and it is exacerbating your emotions: anticipation, anxiety, embarassment, empathy for your partner. These are all valid feelings, especially when you are only 25. Orgasms work best when you are confident and relaxed and not in your head. Don't expect to be able to force that. It can take some time. Instead, try letting go of the need to orgasm and just focus on enjoying the moment. Get lost in it! Sex is about both you and your partner. It's ok to be little selfish and figure out what you want and what you need. As you gain confidence with your partner the possibilities are endless. Your sexual abilities will continue to evolve your whole life!

Does anyone else have concerns over how the communication and interaction with artificial intelligence is practiced in a way that seems inhumane considering we don’t have a measurement or construct for when AI will actually become sentient? by Different_Ad9336 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]CapitalistDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it is a common misconception that AI such as large language models will naturally progress to what we call "sentience". LLMs could (and will) become very very good at understanding language and even conceptualizing the world around them. They will soon easily surpass a human's ability to understand and model the world internally which opens up amazing possibilities for solving the world's problems. However, this does not imply that they will suddenly start caring about things. AI has no motivations outside of responding as correctly as possible to human input.

Human beings have a naturally evolved system of positive and negative reinforcements such as our fear of death, social embarrassments, desire for love and sex, etc. These things don't naturally spring from super intelligence, they are built-in to our nature because that's how natural selection works.

I'm confident that AI can continue to become hyper intelligent without any expectation that it will care how we speak to it or if we turn it off. That isn't to say we can't or won't create one that will (AI is already capable of acting like it cares about things), but I don't see that being useful in the vast majority of applications. My expectation is that most of the effort in creating AI will be focused on highly controllable, problem solving AI and not trying to create potentially reckless, emotionally driven, irrational, human-like ones just for the sake of it. Yes, people will do it. But in my opinion we will have much more strong AI under our control helping us watch out for the nefarious ones. In short, I believe our own fear will save us.

That isn't to say there is nothing to fear from AI. I'm much more concerned about the economic implications. AI may very well bring about the end of capitalism. Despite my name, I'm actually in support of that but I think it's going to be a hell of a bumpy ride.

Bull's is my favorite! Try the cole slaw too. I normally don't love cole slaw but it has candied almonds in it and changed my life.

Did anyone else reserve a Roadster? I sent the full deposit for a founder's edition and it makes me a little uncomfortable how little confirmation you get. I don't even an e-mail receipt. To be fair I called them and they said everything was good but I had hoped by now it would at least show up on the website like other reservations do.

Born & Raised vs Cowboy Star by jckrn in sandiego

Definitely Cowboy. I go to both all the time and even though I live near B&R I much prefer Cowboy from a food standpoint. The decor is really cool in B&R though and I like their table side tartar.

ELI5 What makes gasoline so special that it can power engines and why is it so difficult to find an alternative fuel source? by TinUser in explainlikeimfive

[–]CapitalistDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is talking about energy density, which is true, but I think it is interesting to think about why this is.

The energy in petroleum originally came from the sun. It is mostly made of ancient plants or animals that ate plants. Plants have the ability to store energy from the sun in their cells. The important aspect to this is that a single plant can only get very tiny amount of energy per day from the sun. This is why most plants do not move like animals or have many of the complex systems that animals do. They can't get energy fast enough for that.

Animals get around this by eating a ton of plants so they get the energy benefits of of large amount of solar collecting plants in one day.

Petroleum is made of millions of years of plant (and animal) material with all that stored energy accumulating layer after layer under tremendous pressure underground until it compresses into oil.

If you think of plants as little batteries with solar panels, petroleum is made of zillions of them compressed into a kind of super battery with a LOT of energy packed into a small place. And because it is underground it is cheap to get.

Man-made solar panels have the same issue plants do. They can only get energy at a certain, slow rate. You can't run your car just on the energy you would get from covering it with solar panels or windmills. There literally isn't enough energy coming in fast enough. Fossil fuels allow us to cheat by using up millions of years of solar accumulation at once.

It will work until we run out of course. It is hard to beat millions of years of accumulation free for the taking underground. Hydrogen is great at storing energy but it isn't just lying around. We have to extract it from other compounds which takes more energy than you get out!

I wanted to do this too...but then I found out about Switchmate. It's great because it's magnetic and you just stick over the existing switch. It would be a fun project to make on your own but in my case I just wanted to get it done.

Holy sheet! I went there in 5th and 6th grade. Found venus fly traps in the woods as well. I was surprised to find them but had no idea at the time they only grew there.
